What age is Seasalt aimed at?

I went shopping for a coat today and the lady is my local boutique was trying to convince me that most school mums wear Seasalt coats and Seasalt is great for my needs (warm, stylish, waterproof).

She seemed abit put out when I mentioned I felt Seasalt were too old for me and I felt their target market is late 40s plus.

What age would you say Seasalt is aimed at?

There was someone on another S&B thread who said that one of the reasons they wouldn’t buy a dress from somewhere (I think it was M&S) was because they could bump into a plus size woman wearing the same thing. It shouldn’t surprise me that some people feel the same way about seeing an older woman wearing something they’ve bought.

I do find it hard to comprehend. I could understand feeling embarrassed that someone much younger or much thinner was standing next to me wearing the same dress because it invites an unfavourable body comparison. I don’t understand the idea that a dress is somehow devalued by being worn by an older or plus sized woman.

It shows that the advertisers are right I suppose - there really are people who won’t buy things if they’re modelled by older women.

riotlady · 10/10/2021 13:57

@RampantIvy that is a really nice dress!

IComeInPeace · 10/10/2021 14:01

I'd say late forties and up.
I'm 51 and have never bought anything from there. Their coats are probably warm but too long. I'd look so frumpy in a seasalt coat.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 10/10/2021 14:14

I'm 40 and I love Seasalt - it's my go-to. The clothes seem tailored for grown women unlike many other clothing brands, and I find them really flattering. They wash well and the fabric feels lovely. I would say I'm exactly their target market!

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 10/10/2021 14:18

I would add that I don't give a shit about clothes, I just want to feel comfortable and not look like a bag lady.

mrsevangelina · 10/10/2021 14:23

I'm 27 and have a few tops from there GrinBlush however generally I would it is aimed at late 30s plus

This is so depressing.

Why are we throwing more mature women aside like they are worthless? No wonder we are seen as second class, we are pretty good at tearing ourselves down.

I don't think George Clooney wearing a wooley jumper would put many men off buying it. Confused

Only a tiny cross section of peeps posting here. Don't let it bother you.

Thank you @riotlady

Lovesicecreams · 10/10/2021 15:40

Everyone I know wearing sea salt is 35-50

Lovesicecreams · 10/10/2021 15:41

Including me Grin

NotresDames · 10/10/2021 16:26

I am one of the older posters here, judging by the ages posted.

I prefer Mint Velvet, Whistles, John Lewis for some basics (they've got better over the last year), Uniqlo (basics, again), plain Boden stuff (knitted dresses in winter) Jigsaw (in sales) and the White Company (ditto).

I find SS a bit twee. I don't 'do' flowery prints and IMO they look best on the very young or my Mum's friends, who are very old.

One thing for sure- I bet SS's website has had masses of hits from this thread! Makes you think it's a great way to drive traffic to their website. Well done OP Grin

How odd you should appear on Style and Beauty, then! Grin

@NotresDames Fair. I'll get my (Seasalt) coat. Grin

DGFB · 10/10/2021 17:28

I’m 45 and won’t wear it. I turn to North Face for those sorts of coats

Their coats are fine. Last year they had a lovely teal wool one in the sale.

KirstenBlest · 10/10/2021 18:25

Their clothes are fine. Their coats are good. The quality is excellent.

I won't wear North Face because it seems everyone around here is wearing it.

But Northface ones are no more 'attractive' imo. They're just a slightly different version of an anorak.
woodhill · 10/10/2021 19:41

I went into Seasalt today to have a look, I wait for offers and tend to buy online.

The quality of the fabrics are good, they wash well and are mainly cotton

I also like their face masks which are great

TrainforSpeed · 10/10/2021 19:45

I think a lot of their clothes are too old for me and I'm 51, but I do love my Sea Salt coat. A coat that does what it's supposed to do is properly life changing.

TrainforSpeed · 10/10/2021 19:46

North Face seems to be the choice of drug dealers and gang members round here. I used love it when it was just for real outdoor types with no clue about fashion but not so much now.

Maireas · 10/10/2021 19:48

Yes, but are they youthful drug dealers, @TrainforSpeed? That really is the most important thing Wink

Carboncheque · 10/10/2021 20:07

I thought Canada Goose was the coat for dealers?

Maireas · 10/10/2021 20:08

Right. Can you wear Canada Goose if you have the temerity to be over 50? It's so confusing.

Carboncheque · 10/10/2021 20:11

What if you’re a dealer over 50? I need a Venn diagram.
