Beauty Advent Calendars 2021 Thread 3 - Decisions Decisions! (Spoilers included)

Peridot1 · 08/10/2021 09:57

Hope it’s ok to have started the thread as we seemed to run out of the last one a bit quickly! And I was really enjoying the thread and reading everyone’s thoughts.

I started reading the first one determined not to buy one this year.

Currently I have the Rituals one and have just ordered the Origins 12 Day one for the 12 days of Christmas!

Let the chat and decisions continue!

Regarding sorting and sorting like others I have my stash sorted into bags of cleansers, toners etc. Now that travel is back on the cards I will use them up that way.

The Chanel one is hilariously ridiculous. £825 for that?!?

MorrisZapp · 10/10/2021 12:38

I would imagine that you could spend £825 at the Chanel counter and leave with so many bags and freebies that they'd have to help you to your car.

I always ask myself this. If I spent the price of the advent calendar on my favourite items from this range and enjoyed some freebies too, would I end up with more product or less?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 10/10/2021 14:13

@AprilLady

I needed a laugh this morning. This calendar must have the ultimate Drawers of Disappointment: beautyadventcalendar.net/chanel-no5-limited-edition-the-calendar/

Spend $825 and get … stickers Confused

Thanks April. You've made my day with that one.

The most bizarre, of many bizarre items in it, have to be the keyboard stickers. Who wants keyboard stickers over the age of about 15? I doubt most of that demographic can afford the calendar.

PomRuns · 10/10/2021 14:26

The Chanel Calendar is puzzling (and takes the p).

Not advent related but does anyone have a neom pod? They are on offer at the moment on cvc £95 with 3 oils. I do have a diffuser but it's bigger and not desk friendly (for all the endless zoom calls).

anonymouslyusing · 10/10/2021 16:08

I’ve got the pod. I use it for winding down before bed and I love it

ChuddleyCannons · 11/10/2021 02:29

Which would you guys recommend? I'm torn between liberty, cult beauty and Fortnum's

But I also have a soft spot for fenwicks because we use to live in Newcastle 😂

PomRuns · 11/10/2021 07:08

@anonymouslyusing thank you. I might get it - Christmas gift for the house !

@ChuddleyCannons have you had one before? Liberty good if not had before, Fortnums has different products to try plus has a perfume and a candle. Fortnums for me this year, I feel Liberty is a bit samey after a while. Lovely if you have not had before though.

ChuddleyCannons · 11/10/2021 07:28

@PomRuns no I've never splurged on one!

PomRuns · 11/10/2021 07:40

Either would be a lovely treat.

Stokey · 11/10/2021 07:53

If you haven't had one before, I'd go Liberty's. It's worth more than F&M and had a beautiful box. Also the F&M one has a lot of brands that there are two of, so you're not getting as big a spread.

I'm think I'm going to get Fenwick's if I miss out on Cult Beauty but it's not my first choice as has smaller sizes and not as strong an offering - then again it's £50 cheaper!

LastSummerHere · 11/10/2021 08:00

I must be the only one who wasn't that impressed with the Liberty box. I had been looking forward to seeing it as I'd heard so much about it but wasn't really fussed on it. It was very narrow and quite flimsy. The F&M box was thick, sturdy and so utterly luxurious. It just shouted Christmas.

ashmts · 11/10/2021 08:03

@ChuddleyCannons it's so personal, different ones will appeal to different people. Do you want make-up? If so, not Fortnums as it's all skincare/self-care. I went for it as that appealed to me this year. Liberty looks more high-end to me, probably like it would be better for a slightly older person and the make-up in CB probably better for a younger person? Just cos of the brands really, I haven't looked into all the products in detail. They're all good though, it just depends what suits you best. I don't think Fenwick's is good value this year, the sizes are smaller than JL but the contents are similar and it's a similar price.

My Liberty box arrived with damaged packaging and bashed in the corner last year, with a handwritten return address on the outer box to another person, so obviously re-sent out.

Liberty couldn't have cared less.

LastSummerHere · 11/10/2021 09:46

AJ I think I remember reading your posts on that before...it's really bad because the presentation of the box is an important part of it all. It is a sensory thing as well as making it all seem so exciting with the anticipation. The Liberty box is pretty but I must admit I was disappointed. I remember it was so narrow one of the products had just about been squashed in.

My Liberty calendar arrived this morning - felt really light and the tape sealing the box had been slit open! Sure enough it’s completely empty!!! I’ve contacted Liberty but I’m worried they won’t believe me as the weight on the label is 7.8kg (I weighed it, it’s just under 4) and they said they’d check with the warehouse what the weight was when it was sent out.

I am so disappointed! Never had anything like this happen before. I hope Liberty can either send me a new one or refund me.

Luvacuppatea · 11/10/2021 11:46

That’s awful @MinesaBottle! Hope Liberty step up and send you a replacement 🤞

Oh no! I hope you get it sorted. Having read that and about the various issues last year it doesn’t give a great impression of Liberty.

I was gearing up to buy Cult Beauty tomorrow but now have to go into the office. This is only the 4th time I’ve had to go in since COVID, how can it be that it’s on CB release day!?

Stokey · 11/10/2021 12:09

Oh no so am I. For some reason I thought it was the 14th. Does anyone know what time it normally drops?

@ashmts for me JL had about 6 things that I already have or don't want so it wasn't a good one for me. It's all so personal.

I'd be tweeting and FB-ing them that information if you have any doubts about their response.

Not the Elemis Apricot toner! I swear they only manufacture that specifically to put it into gift sets… 🤦🏼‍♀️

@MinesaBottle - the advice from @itsallgoingpearshaped I'd be tweeting and FB-ing them that information if you have any doubts about their response is worth taking. I had a nightmare with LF last year and as a result of my continued tweeting they compensated me well.
