Beauty Advent Calendars 2021 Thread 3 - Decisions Decisions! (Spoilers included)

Hope it’s ok to have started the thread as we seemed to run out of the last one a bit quickly! And I was really enjoying the thread and reading everyone’s thoughts.

I started reading the first one determined not to buy one this year.

Currently I have the Rituals one and have just ordered the Origins 12 Day one for the 12 days of Christmas!

Let the chat and decisions continue!

Regarding sorting and sorting like others I have my stash sorted into bags of cleansers, toners etc. Now that travel is back on the cards I will use them up that way.

I think it’s interesting that people are getting a bit meh about them now. I wonder if they have had their day?

As noted it’s odd that so many products seem to get repeated across different calendars.

DoD for me are eyelashes, black eye liner, tools, nail varnish and red lipstick.

I don’t mind a pillow spray.

I love skin care generally so a good balance of nice skin care with a few make up bits and a nice candle and perfume win for me. Especially a perfume I haven’t had before.

I like pillow spray however I don’t remember to use it so I’ve never even got through one of those mini ones you get in hotels, never mind a full size version!

Even though I wouldn't normally buy a pillow spray, I do use them up and enjoy the novelty of a nice smelling pillow for a week!

Is anyone thinking of getting the Brown Thomas one? I normally get a couple of cheaper ones, LF, No 7, M&S price range but nothing is tickling my fancy this year. Apart from the Brown Thomas one, even though I haven’t seen the full contents yet. The price is putting me off though, even though from the few bits revealed it looks like good value. I’m so torn!

I think the thing with Beauty AC I'm now expecting top notch items for a minimal cost.

I don't want a repeat of many items yet I also want a repeat of items that work for me and I don't want items I think I won't like despite the fact they're new to me and end up being fabulous for my skin.

I'd like a pick n mix advent I can choose what items to have.

So I'd like to buy the AC, and choose 25 items to put in there myself.

I love pillow sprays, and use hand cream every night.

Grazia is disappointing this year. Full contents published this morning - no candle, an Avant and a Doctor's Formula thing, and some make-up in shades that wouldn't work on me. The only thing I really like the look of is the Rodial cleansing balm, which isn't enough to persuade me. I need another 12-day option now!

It would be great if some of them had a couple of versions, so you could choose the make-up colours that would suit you. The ‘suits all’ lipsticks they put in are always too dark/ bright for me.

I think we have to remember that the people who are getting meh about it are those on a S&B board in October (or August...) talking about beauty advent calendars. Presumably a lot of us have had quite a few calendars before, spend quite a lot on beauty, maybe already have tried a lot of the items, etc. ASOS, JL and Space NK have all sold out (although I think are expecting more stock) so the demand must still be there.

@toffeeshock I think you're onto something there. Different options for different skin tones, or brights or nude make-up shades, or something, might refresh the whole thing.

I like the look of the items listed but only 5 full size items for €295 seems a bit steep.

Agreed. The "suits all" usually suit very few people.

I've ordered LF because I liked it last year and also Glossybox because I couldn't resist the full size palette. I like it when they are a mix of skin, hair, self care and makeup - wouldn't want a pure skincare set as I'd never get through it. Still using up last year's and last year's GWPs 😬

I have F&M already but it doesn't count as bought so long ago .

It has lovely skincare but no make up, and I do so fancy a new eyeshadow palette so I am hoping to get CB. If not, my backup was Space NK I think so now maybe JLewis if it comes back into stock?

CB is so full of stuff tho, quite exciting.

@ashmts - agreed. And we have to remember that in reality there is only so many products out there for companies to use. I think especially for those of us who are a tad obsessed! And I think they will use their more mainstream products most of the time.

Blimey, I didn’t realise we were onto a new thread, thanks for starting one. There’s a couple of sneak peeks of the No7 calendar contents, but they’re not really doing it for me. I think I’m not going to bother this year.

My Fenwick calendar arrived today; I really enjoyed last year's and like the look of this years. Plus, it looks festive.

My DD's H&B calendar has arrived as well; she likes the look of the contents.
