I’m hoping I’ve been here long enough to be allowed to start the new thread. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s outfits as we move into my favourite fashion season.

Not sure on this jumper, I think it makes me look massive. I seem to have developed somewhat of a distorted image of myself, where I think I'm considerably bigger than I am which means an awful lot of my recent buys have had to go back.

Jeans Levi's

@Justonedayatatime11 you are tiny. You look great

@NotJustACigar I prefer it without the skirt. I think the slimmer silhouette is nicer. You look great in it. But I'm a 60s child!

JunieSpoony · 09/11/2021 11:42

Thank you everyone for being supportive! The problem is that I really do look heavily pregnant rather than overweight, so even when people don’t ask I can see them stealing glances and wondering if it’s ok to ask.

@Chrispackhamspoodle, love the boots and the dress!

@Sooverthemill fantastic shirt!

@NotJustACigar I like the skirt (also 90s child), but I initially thought it was a short shirt dress, which would be really cute.

@Justonedayatatime11 the jumper does not make you look huge. Are they Dalmatians on it?!

@RedHot22, your poor daughter. It really sucks!

Justonedayatatime11 · 09/11/2021 11:48

@JunieSpoony no, they're white and black stars. But now you mention it... oh bugger Sad

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/11/2021 13:49

@zigzaggaway

In office today and wearing a new shirt dress for the first time, it has pockets Smile

Dress - dark navy Stichfix own brand
Boots - Ravel

Lovely dress @zigzaggaway 👍
JunieSpoony · 09/11/2021 13:51

@Justonedayatatime11 whoops! I'll blame the small phone screen and not my failing eyesight Grin

JunieSpoony · 09/11/2021 13:53

I can see it now you've said it, of course, but I took the points to be four strutting legs and a proud tail Halloween Grin

Shannith · 09/11/2021 15:14

I've just missed a chance to catch up properly (hairdressers) but I will.

Jumper - oasis
Thick yoga pants that I convince myself do as trousers to wear outside
High tops - converse

Thanks everyone for confirming that I go with the jumpsuit I find work events really difficult to dress for! @pompomsgalore thanks the jumpsuit is Ted Baker but DSis bought it for my birthday a few years ago from Bicester village outlet so it's not new.

@zigzaggaway that's a great dress.

@Justonedayatatime11 give yourself a good talking to, I've been there though I look at old pictures and think WTF I looked great. The jumper is just chunky.

@JunieSpoony I've been there too, Towards the end of my last pregnancy 5 years ago my HB kept dipping down and they kept threatening that I'd have to have a monitored labour, so I started have a bowl of cereal a day so effectively 4 meals it sorted out my HB (good job as I'd have never made it to hospital) but I put on more weight than I did previously and really struggled to reduce it.

About 3 years ago a parent congratulated me and said are you looking forward to a fourth child, I did have to point out I was just that was fat not pregnant, she was mortified though.

The thing is if you are currently over weight then you are, making yourself feel rubbish or punishing yourself won't change it. I would suggest wearing clothes that make you feel good and that bring you joy and gradually improving your diet and fitness. As for people commenting if it's to be an arse and make themselves feel good then I'd be inclined to tell them to fuck off, if like my example it's a mistake born from good intentions then let it go over your head.

Dress Boden
Belt Sainsbury's
Boots Ecco

What about your lovely sparkly jumpsuit @Sickoffamilydrama?

KiteflyingKat · 09/11/2021 17:34

@Justonedayatatime11 you look perfectly slim to me. I can relate though as I’ve gone from a tiny 6/8 to a 10/12 and often feel awful about my looks, the combination of having a baby followed by lockdown / WFH has done nothing for my self image

pompomsgalore · 09/11/2021 18:20

@Sickoffamilydrama that is a strong look! Love it.

AnnieSnap · 09/11/2021 19:13

@JunieSpoony I agree wholeheartedly with what @Sickoffamilydrama said. This is our one life. We need to love ourselves and make the most of it. None of us will be concerned with our bit of extra weight on our deathbeds, only with the things we didn’t get to do (and I don’t mean lose more weight).

Chrispackhamspoodle · 09/11/2021 19:42

@Sickoffamilydrama that dress is gorgeous.Please tell me it's current...off to look at Boden now.Will post a link of my boots.They were expensive BUT will last forever.Or at least a long time Smile Solovair used to make DMs so they have a DM type sole.I've worn them all day with no problem straight from the box

@Justonedayatatime11 I hear you and can relate to the - saying this gently - madness. Why do we beat ourselves up so much? You look exactly the same and have a gorgeous figure. It's just a big jumper! But I entirely understand.

@JunieSpoony people are as @Sooverthemill says shits sometimes. A few years ago I was pretty ill and had enormous swelling in my stomach. I looked 9 months pregnant (literally) and had loads of comments about expecting my second. There was literally nothing I could do about it apart from take medication and give it time. Then when I was fixed the huge stomach remained. It's taken a long time to go and while I hated it at the time it made me reassess my view of my body a bit. I had little choice but to accept and adjust and become a bit zen-like about timescales to change things. Only thing I could change was the way I felt.

Because the most important thing was/is that I'm alive and gradually as I got better I could do more -ride, walk miles, even run a bit. Yoga and very low carb over a couple of years worked for me. While being ill and feeling like a weeble was not fun it's made my grateful everyday that my body works.

This thread has been really helpful for me because I see the most fabulous women putting together great outfits/looks that I admire and we are all different shapes. Clothes can be a lot of fun -and make me feel good no matter what nonsense I have going on in my head. I never really thought about it that way before.

Greyhairwarmheart · 10/11/2021 06:50

Lots of great outfits. I love the jumpsuit @Sickoffamilydrama. Thanks for the dress love. Dress Betty Barclay, cardigan jigsaw.

It’s strange isn’t it as I read all of your words and I know your are right but I can say honestly that I have always hated my body. I will post yesterday’s outfit and all I see is a barrel shape around my middle. I know pleated skirts aren’t that great for a lot of people and I think I may charity bag it but I had to make do with what I had available under the circumstances. I wish I could change my mindset, people say look in the mirror and tell yourself you are beautiful. I’m just 😳

Softpebbles · 10/11/2021 08:47

Yesterday - skirt fat face, shirt Zara, brogues ancient from Clark’s.

Today sweaty Betty leggings and T-shirt new look.

I’ve posted the today shot as I am trying to work out my shape. I think inverted triangle - is that also a strawberry? 🤦‍♀️

@Shannith @Justonedayatatime11@JunieSpoony I absolutely understand. When I had cancer I was at absolute rock bottom about my body. Bald, fat ( steroids), sick, unable to walk upstairs without help. It took years to regain 'my' body and during that time I had to care for very sick DD often in hospital or nursing home ( she got ill 6 months after my all clear). One of the ways I helped myself to stay sane was to dress up every day as if anyone cared. My body has stayed alive during cancer/chemo, given birth to one live baby prematurely, 2 babies who didn't make it, cared for my dying mum and dad and now looks after DD. Our bodies are a miracle really. All I try for now is healthy enough to look after DD. Please don't beat yourselves up. No one on here who is a regular will be harsh or critical unless you ask 'this dress or this dress?' You all help retain my sanity, let us support you

@EllaPaella

Definitely a chill in the air today 🥶 Just been for a glorious morning sea swim and now heading out to meet a friend for brunch. Hope you all have a happy Sunday. I will be adding a bobble hat when I leave the house. Coat - Calvin Klein (charity shop) Jeans - Levi's Jumper - M&S
Love your outfit and the jacket looks fab. You've inspired me to head to the charity shops 👌
OublietteBravo · 10/11/2021 09:26

@Justonedayatatime11 - I know exactly what you mean. I find jumpers especially difficult. Everyone on here looks so stylish in their, but all I see with mine is bulk. I’m pretty sure it’s my perception of myself that’s off.

It’s taken me a while to accept that my size/shape is changing as I get older. What really helped was being more aware of what the people around me were wearing, and mentally deciding who was best dressed. (Someone on here suggested it - perhaps @KiteflyingKat). It really brought home to me that the most stylish people weren’t necessarily the youngest/thinnest people. There are people of all ages and sizes who look amazing.
