M&S does it again!

Spotted in M&S yesterday. The pullover alone is a crime against taste, but the overall styling - what were they thinking?!
Am I missing something? Does anyone actually dress like this? (Bar Alice from the Vicar of Dibley!)

M&S does it again!
@Henrysmycat yes it probably would but M&S still struggle with who their core client is which shows with the VM. They have the different ranges ie autograph, limited, indigo etc to try and combat this but in reality its still a bit confused! Xo
I think this is M&S major problem. I'm 40s and very rarely shop in there because every time I walk through to the school uniform section all I see is frumpy florals, blouses and cardis that are aimed at old ladies imo. I have no desire to dress like a pensioner. I do actually have some nice fitting M&S bits, but they've all been bought in charity stores. I'm not sure where they hide the younger trendier section, but I've not found it yet!

DameMaureen · 30/09/2021 12:08

I'm actually surprised that so many people haven't seen these large knitted vests all over the place for this Winter . Some of them do remind me of the things we used to wear as children 😂 under our coats to keep warm . I think M and S have some really nice pieces this winter and it was like walking into a new shop -big chunky footwear , some of the faux leather and the Ghost MS collaboration . As we know from MN the definition of "frumpy" is one that varies so much - dungarees , dresses with leggings and Popsy dresses to mention only a couple 😂

PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2021 12:26

I am wearing a Popsy dress with leggings right now. There is no hope for the me.

ILoveShula · 30/09/2021 13:35

@DameMaureen, they are everywhere.

I wear dungarees and tunics with leggings and am not frumpy.

MN's slagging off of M&S is unfair

PurpleDaisies · 30/09/2021 13:43

It’s not all of MN. Lots of us like bits in there. The jeans abs sportswear are often recommended on here.

It’s not a hive mind.

Sheerheight · 30/09/2021 13:49

Perhaps it was someone's last day and they set it up for a laugh..

ILoveShula · 30/09/2021 13:56

It's not my go to shop. I'd say jeans, sportswear and footwear are really good.
I'm trying to not buy new these days, but basics like tights and knickers from there were good the last time I bought some.

I just don't understand why the outfit posted got slammed. I wouldn't wear it because it's not my style but it looks like a current look.
I'm not a tiered dress or tank top type and the colours aren't ones I'd choose

The boots and hat are more 'me'

canyon2000 · 30/09/2021 15:58

That looks like something backofthewardobe on Instagram would wear!Grin

You might laugh at knitted vests but they’re actually quite useful.
 • I don’t need to wear a cami under my shirt to prevent it being see-through.
 • I’m fat and wearing a knitted vest over an oversize shirt balances me out a bit.

This is my favourite. The model looks as though she's lost a harp.

@arrangeyourface I wasn't laughing at them but I was surprised that so many haven't seen them . Last week my friend was wearing one at lunchtime over a dress albeit a different colour .

lazylinguist · 01/10/2021 21:51

Hilarious! I quite like the orange jumper Blush - not with the rest of it though. And I can't be doing with floral prints and flimsy, droopy or frilly dresses.

Groovee · 02/10/2021 16:10

This was our local M&S, was disappointed no orange tank top and Dh told me off for laughing about the hat

allycat4 · 02/10/2021 17:15

I love it. I've bought that dress and the tank top in cream. Looks great 😊

That looks like of ok... Not the hat though
MiddlesexGirl · 02/10/2021 17:31

The dress that someone linked a few posts after the OP goes better with the tank neckline. The OP dress is more drab and the colour matching is all wrong - perhaps in a misguided attempt to jazz up the dress. But the basic concept does seem to be in fashion at the moment.

AnInspectorBores · 02/10/2021 17:56

Tank tops are all the rage amongst Young People ATM. The Sixth Form girls at my school are wearing them. One of the peripatetic music teachers and I find it hilarious because we've been wearing them for years (comfort, another layer) and now they are fashionable Grin

Dashinghaberdashery · 02/10/2021 18:14

It's so bad that I kind of like it Grin
It's certainly not an oversexualized fashion look!

Cruiser11 · 02/10/2021 19:48

I really like the outfit.

Tank tops were all the rage LAST winter. I was on a waiting list for a Cefinn one which, in retrospect, I'm glad I never bought as their stuff is stupidly overpriced.

The High Street is on it now.

Those Ghost dresses weren't great, and IMO the less said about Popsy the better.

Toomanyradishes · 03/10/2021 10:49

Ooh how to keep warm whilst still wearing a high vis...

bridgeofslides · 03/10/2021 10:52

@CarolynMartens

It’s like if a teacher threw on a high-vis to do the fire alarm test in a primary school. It’s particularly cold so she’s grabbed a hat too.
Cracked it
SusannaM · 03/10/2021 12:15

I like quite a bit of M&S currently and suprisingly my 16yr old DD has bought a few things recently.
But omg their mannequins...it's almost as if they are trying to put you off. Ours have this strange half tucked in shirts thing going on, not the the usual front tucked in, back out, but one side tucked in 🤷. And dresses hitched up at the side.
