M&S does it again!

Spotted in M&S yesterday. The pullover alone is a crime against taste, but the overall styling - what were they thinking?!
Am I missing something? Does anyone actually dress like this? (Bar Alice from the Vicar of Dibley!)

M&S does it again!

I hate to say this ladies but reading your comments about the beanie being a multi task & multi generational item… spot on 😆 xox

Mumwithbaggage · 29/09/2021 22:48

I quite like it - not to wear obviously (I have SOME taste), but simply because it makes me feel stylish and edgy even as a 57yo teaching in a rural primary school!

daisylashes · 29/09/2021 22:53

Think we should all buy this exact combo then we can spot each other IRL

I quite like M & S most of the time tho

sjxoxo · 29/09/2021 22:53

Infact looking at it again with my VM
hat on im surprised there’s not any of the following accessories added… I’d bet a fiver they considered at least one of:

  • a bumbag worn diagonally across the chest
  • a chunky chain necklace
  • chunky socks under the boots
  • a net shopping bag (think CELINE)

…I would bet a fiver they considered at least one of these acc’s & couldn’t include it because the shop fit system didn’t allow space for accessory point of sale 😂

@Mumwithbaggage yes exactly! She’s got you. You are their target customer here 😆 xo

Alice from the VOD! That is such a spot on observation OP.

Lindy2 · 29/09/2021 22:59

Now what shall I use to get my display of a rather ordinary dress noticed?.....................spies a bright orange tank top 👀 Grin

RadioSixMusicLover · 29/09/2021 23:16

Just the outfit for making sure your EasyJet aircraft departs on time.

DameMaureen · 30/09/2021 01:38

This style - dress and waistcoat thingy is very "in " - H and M , Zara - they are all doing it . It's the hat that is a bit weird. After saying that I love a beanie .

Ellabella222 · 30/09/2021 05:44

I don’t mind it. I don’t like the colours but a dress with a sweater dress is nice. 🤷‍♀️

Henrysmycat · 30/09/2021 07:19

@sjxoxo yeah but I like roast chicken for dinner but my teen would like chocolate mouse. I’m not going to cook and mix them both because that would be a disaster. Hot mess.
Wouldn’t it be better to have a teen mannequin and a middle aged one? And my teen would never wear anything by M&S except school shirts and black tights. Everything else for teens and youngsters is 3 seasons ago.

sjxoxo · 30/09/2021 07:43

@Henrysmycat yes it probably would but M&S still struggle with who their core client is which shows with the VM. They have the different ranges ie autograph, limited, indigo etc to try and combat this but in reality its still a bit confused! Xo

PrincessPaws · 30/09/2021 08:27

Oh god, I saw something very similar in an H&M window, but the dress was a pale blue flowery polyester monstrosity with a big fancy collar, and the jumper was grey. They also 'styled' it with a baseball cap and trainers

Hoppinggreen · 30/09/2021 08:34

@arrangeyourface

Not at all being one to defend M&S generally because they have mainly been awful but some of their autumn stuff is actually not bad this year.

I wore the orange knitted vest being mocked in this post with a cream silk blouse and black wide leg trousers and it actually got compliments, believe it or not!

I do believe it, your outfit sound really nice. The individual items on the mannequin are ok, it’s the combination
Timetable99 · 30/09/2021 08:36

Whoever said that orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.

SquareYellow · 30/09/2021 08:36

I’m guessing the shop staff needed to cheer themselves up and they had a competition for the worst dressed dummy?

shrugshrug · 30/09/2021 09:07

What I don't understand is how, consistently, the colour in a photo online or poster in store of a clothing item is never true to life.
Can they not get a photographer who can capture the true colour ?

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 30/09/2021 09:37

Everything about M&S seems to be going downhill these days, it's depressing.

The food hall stuff is so gimmicky and over-processed, stupid Percy Pig cakes in jars and god knows what. And the quallity of the basic products isn't nearly as good as it was.

Branleuse · 30/09/2021 10:15

I love the tank top

Their eccles cakes are still delicious
Spiindoctor · 30/09/2021 10:36

I want a pullover/tank like that - not in orange - but I can't see it on their website?
Can anyone else?

ExConstance · 30/09/2021 10:57

The v neck tank top is really not nice, sort of shapeless and droopy and very large for its size. I want one to wear over a Brora dress and was hoping to avoid Brora prices, probably for the best I get something better than M&S.

BarefootHippieChick · 30/09/2021 11:25

Years ago the work experience kids used to get the job of dressing the mannequins

hedgehogger1 · 30/09/2021 11:28

I'll be honest some of my sixth formers turn up in outfits like that (with the hat). Maybe We're just out of date

Gothichouse40 · 30/09/2021 11:32

OP, given all the misery and awfulness going on in the world right now. Thank you for giving me a laugh. That's one of the worst outfits and I thought they had started early Halloween costumes. Being an older lady, I gave up on M&S years ago for clothes, after they decided their clothing was to be for the young and the thin. The clothing quality is questionable now too. You have lightened the mood though.
