Would you wear this to an autumn wedding?

I'm going to a wedding at the end of October, still got a bit of baby weight to lose so my usual go-to's are a bit snug Blush plus wedding is in the Highlands so it might be quite chilly!

What do you think of this for a wedding guest dress? I tried it on and it was very flattering, but I'm swithering about how to style it...

@MrsSkylerWhite

I’m so sorry SpikeDearheart, because I do try to see the positive.

Really don’t like it though. It looks like something Vera would wear.

Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that big and baggy is flattering, because it isn’t (though neither is a size too small, obviously.)

Really, is just focus on what you would wear without the remaining baby weight and buy that, just ever so slightly looser than you normally would, so it skims rather than clings. Far more flattering and you’ll feel much more like you: knock on effect, happier and more relaxed.

Good advice, although I will say that although it's baggy on the straight-up-and-down body type of the model, it's not quite so sack-like on the curvier type.

Such mixed vibes on this thread, basically externalising my internal monologue about it Grin if I'm feeling brave I may go back to the shop and take a photo for y'alls amusement.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk thank you for the suggestions, but they're all a bit fussy or flouncy for me. I'm very short and busty and have small features, so anything with collars, ruffles, what have you just looks absurd on me, like I'm a weirdly booby little girl dressing up in her Mummy's clothes. A good look it is not!

You have no obligation to amuse anyone 😁

When you find “the” outfit, you’ll know because it will feel comfy able and right.

Hope you enjoy the day!

Atalune · 20/09/2021 20:21

It’s very very drab for a wedding.

I think you can do better.

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 20:27

It's broadly possible that I mainly like it because it has pockets not true, it felt beautiful on

CaptainPovey · 20/09/2021 20:29

I agree @Atalune very drab

There is no way on earth I would wear those colours let alone at a joyful wedding occasion

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 20/09/2021 20:29

Loads of dresses have pockets now, (which I also love a lot). I'd honestly keep looking. Think you can do better and you have time.

Beebumble2 · 20/09/2021 20:34

@CarryOnNurse20

I love the dress. You’d really have to dress it up for a wedding but with make up, hair, heels I’m sure it’ll look fab!
I agree with Carry . I really like the dress, the photos don’t do it justice. Dress it up, it looks comfortable and have a good time.

This was also on my shortlist...

Sorry, I don't really like that. If you want to order from Toast, this one is more weddingy?

Other constraints are I need to be able to ceilidh in it and I need to be able to breastfeed in it. Probably not simultaneously, although you never know...

Oh god, the jumpsuit a million times over that dress.

Yellowcrockpot · 20/09/2021 20:41

Jumpsuit is stunning and practical.

Dress looks a little frumpy, but I would give it an 1920s/40s twist. Curly hair, headband/fascinator/hat, classic gold bag, 1940s style shoes/heels. Big hair, plenty of make up. It could work op!

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 20/09/2021 20:42

Yes, the jumpsuit is great.

Another breastfeeding friendly option might be a top and a skirt? Like a loose-ish silk t-shirt over a vest and do the whole lift the t-shirt, pull down the best thing?

But I really like the jumpsuit and it's a lot more joyful.

OnceMoreOnToTheBeach · 20/09/2021 20:44

Or a shirt dress with buttons maybe. There were loads of these about over the summer.

SpikeDearheart · 20/09/2021 20:45

SwedishEdith I tried that one on as well as it looks lovely on the peg but it just didn't sit right and the pattern didn't particularly suit me, it washed me out somehow.

OP posts:
roxisolerenshaw · 20/09/2021 20:45

The jumpsuit is so much better than the dress!

Palavah · 20/09/2021 20:51

If the dress meets your practical requirements and the colours suit you then you could absolutely style it up for an autumn wedding, especially if you're wearing it new.

I would team with burnt orange or red nails and metallic, burnt orange or mustard yellow shoes. Add a sequinned or feathered headband and you're sorted.

KaptanKatanga · 20/09/2021 20:55

If you love it, why not. Shoes very important though. navy heels, clutch, and a pashmina maybe? Dangly earrings? Though all that combo goes against the spirit of this dress, but at least you can buy it and get more wear out of it afterwards!

KaptanKatanga · 20/09/2021 20:56

Yes to feathered headband! Go for Peacock!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/09/2021 20:57

I would for comforts sake but it will need to be dressed up with nice shoes and jewellery.

Check Tiffany rose out.
They have stunning maternity and nursing dresses. And extremely flattering whatever your size is. Well worth the price.

I really like the first dress.
