I love that Zara dress, but would probably lose the neck bow. Love the shoes.
We should have another royal wedding coming up soon, but who knows if we’ll get pictures. The Emperor’s niece, Princess Mako, is due to marry her fiancé of 3 years, Kei Komuro, on 26 October but it’s all quite controversial.
Ostensibly, the Princess opted for a long engagement after the initial wedding announcement in 2018 on the basis that they might be too “immature” to get married (she was then 27). The press reports that actually both the Imperial Household (Japan’s version of the men in grey suits) and the Japanese public don’t think he’s a fit husband for a Princess, partly because he’s not personally rich, and partly because his mother was having a financial dispute with her former fiancé (the former fiancé claims he lent he money when they were engaged, she claims it was a gift). Anyway, this was apparently enough for them to lean on the Princess to call the wedding off, but she refused and would only delay it.
Anyway, three years later he has obtained a law degree in the US and a job with a US law firm, and he and Mako are still determined to get married, and so are doing so in the face of official opposition. She’s forgoing the financial settlement normally bestowed on princesses marrying and leaving the Imperial household, won’t be having the traditional farewell ceremony to say thank you to the Emperor, and she and her husband will be living in New York. So we’ll have a Japanexit next up…
Here’s the couple when they first announced their engagement (he apparently has horrified the Japanese Daily Mail readers by returning from the US with a pony tail) I wish them very well!
