What do you think of this dress?

I was thinking of styling with these shoes :

Too old lady?

The picture isn’t selling it for me, sorry! It looks so dull as a grey dress on a grey background. Have you seen it in person? Or do they have a good returns policy?

Blinky21 · 31/08/2021 23:33

My first thought was handmaids tale

RogueV · 31/08/2021 23:33

Those shoes! 😍😍

Dress is nice.

Galaxyinmypocket · 01/09/2021 00:00

Shoes are not my cup of tea. Dress is nice but will need good accessories so it doesnt look dowdy. Both together- no.

Time40 · 01/09/2021 01:21

You'd look as if you had joined an ultra-strict religious sect; one that didn't allow music, dancing, or even smiling. And I hate the shoes.

Icepinkeskimo · 01/09/2021 01:49

I just got a letter from Laura Ingles, she said she wants her 'crunchy cotton' dress back...

The shoes are nice though

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 01/09/2021 01:59

I'd think you'd have more money than style sense if I saw you or anyone else wearing that especially at that price.
Btw seen similar in Primark if you really want to rock the Little House on the Prairie/Amish/Nurse Ratchet/Lolita look.

Though on the other hand depending on your accessories you might look really cool in a nonchalant ironic way

bringincrazyback · 01/09/2021 02:12

@idontlikealdi

It looks like an Amish dress just with buttons. If that's what you aspiring to, go for it.
I thought Amish too, but tbf I've hated most of the dresses I've seen in the shops lately, so I'm possibly not the best person to ask. Grin
Athrawes · 01/09/2021 02:14

I love them both and works buy if Toast wasnt so damned expensive.

decoratedstandardlamp · 01/09/2021 02:23

Love both

Quaggars · 01/09/2021 02:31

I love wearing dresses, but I'm not a fan of this one, sorry
Just seems a bit flat and grey?
Then again I don't know why people post online asking for opinions on stuff like this - if I liked it then I'd bloody well wear it and not give a shit what anyone else thought! Grin

frenchfancy81 · 01/09/2021 02:38

Hmmmm...if you're 6 foot tall and a size 10 with an amazing tan, fab hair and a gorgeous, interesting face....maybe?! But even then, only maybe! The dress is like something seen in a convent and the shoes don't go with it at all.

Ruthietuthie · 01/09/2021 02:40

Are you an elderly Catholic nun? If so, it is perfect.

Kanaloa · 01/09/2021 03:20

If you like it, wear it. Almost everyone looks better wearing something they feel good in. Personally I don’t like it, it feels like it’s missing a bonnet or something.

Mamette · 01/09/2021 06:56

@Hadenoughofthisbullshit

The dress says ‘micro’ does that mean thigh length? If so I think it would work and would look nice with the shoes.

But then I am a bit of a boring art school type Grin

It means “micro gingham” as in the print is a very small gingham. You have to zoom in to see it is gingham otherwise it looks grey. I’d say length is below the knee? On an average height woman.

I like the idea of the dress OP but whether you can pull it off depends on your own personal style. Certainly I would look as though I had renounced all worldly possessions if I turned up in that. Maybe you can rock it though.

Shoes are ok.

SarahBellam · 01/09/2021 06:59

Love the shoes. The dress looks like a nun’s habit.

orangejuicer · 01/09/2021 07:01

I would not spend £200 on those, sorry.

ejhhhhh · 01/09/2021 07:03

I wouldn’t wear those shoes with that dress. I like them individually, but together I think the overall look would be dowdy. I think the shoes with well fitting trousers would be great for work, and the dress with DMs might look ok, as long as you’re quite tall.

mrssmiling · 01/09/2021 07:40

I think @Mamette is right about ‘the idea’ of the dress. I really liked the idea of this one which is rather similar, from Hush.
www.hush-uk.com/shani-linen-blend-midi-dress-canyon-rose/002717-0970.html
Chose the navy option…put it on…family took one look and started making jokes about the ‘Sound of Music’, singing ‘Climb Every Mountain’. 😉 Had to agree, it was not a good look!
@Kanaloa ‘missing a bonnet’. 😄

ThisIsNotAGloveSong · 01/09/2021 07:47

I also have some lovely DM's, so this is a possibility Grin

I would, I hope, be wearing it "ironically" as another poster suggested. The dress itself is very conservative, but can be changed for the better with the right accessories I believe.

If it was in Primark for £20 I would have already bought it! I don't care where it comes from. Cheaper the better!

The shoes are gorgeous in real life. They are 100% staying.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 01/09/2021 07:51

The dress is very... Toast and the shoes definitely match the aesthetic.

It's not my aesthetic personally but they do comprise a definite Look, which if it's your thing, go for it, you're killing it.

I actually do like the brogues, although probably not in that colour.

NoCureForLove · 01/09/2021 07:55

Not a lot 9f Toast love here!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/4337521-What-do-you-think-of-this-dress?reverse=1

LordOfTheOnionRings · 01/09/2021 07:57

I love both personally!

Starcar · 01/09/2021 07:57

This is the identikit outfit worn by many around here - all matching with big Deirdre glasses and clashing coloured mohair cardi.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 01/09/2021 07:58

Oh ok, personally I’d only wear it if it was above the knee but I’m short. I think like you say the idea of the dress is good if you could give it some ‘edge’ with some accessories. Leather and spikes or something Grin
