I was thinking of styling with these shoes :

I think of you have a cool kind of vibe it will looks great.

Hadenoughofthisbullshit · 01/09/2021 07:59

^^ argh tried to quote @mamette but it didn’t work again

Divebar2021 · 01/09/2021 08:00

Firstly can we stop with the casual ageism that’s bloody rife on this board.

I like the dress… it’s pretty hipstery. I was at the Tate and spoke to a member of staff who was wearing something similar with a pair of DM boots. This style of dress is pretty cool - Monki have a lot of cheap dresses similar in style although you’re better off buying the nice quality one rather than something cheap & polyester.

I’m not sure about the shoes with it… I’d like to see them in with the length of the dress. Would you wear socks? Tights?

NautaOcts · 01/09/2021 08:05

I think I’m very unfashionable

But objectively - what does that dress have going for it?
It’s not pretty
It’s not cheery
It wouldn’t give anyone any shape
I admit, it might be comfortable to wear.

But so dreary!

I don’t get it!

but then I also don’t have a grey house so maybe I just don’t like grey

Sssloou · 01/09/2021 08:13

@Starcar

This is the identikit outfit worn by many around here - all matching with big Deirdre glasses and clashing coloured mohair cardi.
This is sooooo funny - the whole ensemble is now even worse and stuck in my head ….. where do you live? I might take a trip out to observe.
AgnesNaismith · 01/09/2021 08:21

I love it, OP! You’d have to have very polished hair and make up to balance it out.

MrsMaizel · 01/09/2021 08:22

It's very Amish but if that's your style then go for it .

What do you think of this dress?
TheSunIsStillShining · 01/09/2021 08:26

This is probably the one of the worse combos I have seen in a while. Both dress and shoe are ugly. you asked.
Having said that: if it makes you feel pretty and happy - go for it! I am a random stranger for god knows where with god knows what style preferences :)

I will never understand the point of these posts.
If you are insecure in what to buy/wear, how is random strangers' opinion helping? If you want to show off - okay, I get that a bit.
Would you ever go over to ppl in a bus stop to ask if something looks good on you or not?

Iamthewombat · 01/09/2021 08:30

where do you live? I might take a trip out to observe.

My thoughts exactly. I’m guessing NOT the north of England.

Incidentally, where was the casual ageism a PP mentioned? Someone made a comical reference to an elderly Catholic nun, but that’s not ageist.

mewkins · 01/09/2021 08:33

I think the dress would be better on. It looks about knee length to me. The micro refers to the tiny gingham checks rather than the length, right? With a belt and trainers or boots it would be pretty cool. It does have a Maria vibe though. I'd want to accessorise with a guitar case.

WhoEatsPopTarts · 01/09/2021 08:37

I live in the North and that dress is exactly what the edgy people around here are wearing. The shoes are beautiful.

lazylinguist · 01/09/2021 08:38

I think together they make the klnd of outfit that would look quite cool on a tall, waify model in a magazine with edgy make-up and asymmetric hair, but which would make pretty much any normal human woman look like Anne of Green Gables.

LimeRedBanana · 01/09/2021 08:40

FML.

My heart sank on opening the link to that dress. There are enough disappointments in life, without opening a link on Mumsnet S&B - to see that. 😥

So then I see - a link to some shoes. Oh, thank goodness. The OP’s going to style the fuck out of that dress, and whip out some amazing shoes, that transform the tent into something banging. 🙏

No. Staid, pedestrian shoes. 😥😓

Jeez. Even Fraulein Maria has a nipped in waist. 😧

What do you think of this dress?
AnneKipankitoo · 01/09/2021 08:41

😂
Convent style !

Divebar2021 · 01/09/2021 08:57

@Iamthewombat

The OP asked “ Too old lady?”

Blossomtoes · 01/09/2021 09:04

I love the dress and the shoes. You’ll see countless women dressed like this in some parts of London. The dress would definitely look good with DMs too. It’s beyond me why people can’t just say it’s not for me and feel compelled to compete to find the most cutting insult.

Itsbeen84yearss · 01/09/2021 09:08

Awful

Lunificent · 01/09/2021 09:11

If I was an eccentric 80 year old artist and accessorised with some mad jewellery I might like the look.
Otherwise, not for me at all.

Blossomtoes · 01/09/2021 09:12

More ageism. Please don’t keep doing this.
Girlintheframe · 01/09/2021 09:14

I love them both

MamDancer · 01/09/2021 09:22

A bit scullery maid.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 01/09/2021 09:23

I get the look you’re going for but it is a very fine line between cool and frumpsville. Only you will know if you can pull it off! Tho I do think if you have to ask, subconsciously you will be nervous and apologetic about actually wearing it and it will default to frumpsville.

user1493494961 · 01/09/2021 09:25

The dress is very drab and dowdy.

TheSunIsStillShining · 01/09/2021 09:45

wtaf - is it now not allowed to mention age at all?
what is wrong with people. writing if I was an 80 year old,.... is not ageist, it's a statement that contains a fact relevant to understanding the context.
Ageist would be -imo- "if I was a drab, tired old 80 yr old /as most are almost dead anyway/, ...."
