80’s Make-up; wasn’t it great!

Nostalgia from another thread.
Anyone remember multiple eyeshadows?! I used to have bonkers palettes and do mad combinations e.g inner corner would be fluorescent pink, middle would be shimmer, outer purple - normally set in stone with wetted brush! Then crease emphasised with deeper colour and brow bone highlighted with more shimmer. Coloured mascara was a thing plus I may have had matching eyebrows on occasion! However, I was on the London club scene. As for clothes . . . I yanked myself into a black, PVC dress (talcum powder involved - then baby oil) - then was too chicken shit to take my coat off. Sigh. I would love to yell at my younger self - ‘you look amazing - get that coat off!!’ (plus that’s the last time you’ll ever be able to pull off a size 6 latex dress Hmm)

And I forgot the insane ‘v shaped’ blusher and intentionally outlined lips

I wore a silver miners lipstick I loved it so much. Still quest for a dupe.

MrsCatE · 30/08/2021 05:50

I’d forgotten about that! Bonkers! Thanks @Nitgel

Heather Shimmer anyone?

madamceladon · 30/08/2021 06:53

What brilliant memories! Do you have any pics from the time?

LaBellina · 30/08/2021 06:56

@catinboots21

Heather Shimmer anyone?
I believe that one is still around, isn’t it a lipstick from Rimmel? I think I have bought it a few years ago and it’s a really classic colour.
SheWoreYellow · 30/08/2021 06:59

My teen daughter is currently wearing silver flicky eyeliner, so it’s not all boring out there at the moment. Smile

dudsville · 30/08/2021 07:24

Grin I loved it so much! I used to have so much fun seeing how many colours I could get on an eye lid!

TrampolineForMrKite · 30/08/2021 07:31

I was only born in the (late) 80s as apposed to wearing make up in it, but never understand why Heather Shimmer gets pulled out on these threads every time in a “kitsche” way, it’s a brilliant colour! As @LaBellina says it’s a really classic, neutral type colour. Rimmel do a hydrating version that’s really nice on and looks really subtle. Definitely not in the league of silver lipstick and blue eyeshadow. There’s a cafe latte shimmer or similarly named in the same range that’s of a similar tone and that’s really nice as well.

Oh 80s make-up Grin
I was a teenager in the 80s

I loved bronzey/gold eyeshadow (Barry M Dazzle Dust anyone , apply with a damp brush ) with navy eyeliner and mascara (I have brown eyes )

Eyebrows plucked within a inch of their lives to a "tadpole" shape but instead of a gentle arch they had definite angular look

I used to have long top layers / cropped at the neck hair , more volume the better !

ClaryFairchild · 30/08/2021 09:49

80s makeup with the 80s hair. My spiral perm had 98 rollers ....

ExtremelyDisorganised · 30/08/2021 09:52

Glitterbugs dab on glitter powder by 17. Roll-on fruit flavoured clear lipgloss.

Windywuss · 30/08/2021 09:52

I'm not a s and b regular, but saw this in active and yes, it was a fun time to be a young woman playing around.

Did anyone have colour change lipstick from Avon? Ha ..no idea what the point of that was because you couldn't tell what colour it was until you put it on. It reacted to heat I think!

Also, we were all mad for Bonbon boots17. It was a frosty minky colour. Grin

TheQueef · 30/08/2021 09:53

Wella Flex shampoo and conditioner because the four tins of Bristows firm hold hairspray took it's toll.

Terriah · 30/08/2021 09:55

I was born in the 1980s so I wasn't old enough to wear the makeup, but I absolutely love the hair & makeup styles and wish I could have been old enough to have done it!

orangejuicer · 30/08/2021 09:55

Heather shimmer is my go-to!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2021 10:01

Did anyone have colour change lipstick from Avon

There was a green one , IIRC U;traGlow ?
Meant to give you your perfect shade as it reacted to your pH (or some ther waffle )

GreenClock · 30/08/2021 10:07

I always had a makeup palette in my Christmas stocking as a teen.

I remember Jackie magazine telling us to wash our makeup brushes regularly. I’ll confess, I never bothered!

TheQueef · 30/08/2021 10:41

My Dmum was an Avon lady (when it actually paid and wasn't mlm) so I had loads of unpopular coloured cosmetics.
What I sorely lacked in skill was compensated with rabid enthusiasm and my dedication to more is more.

The 80's were very forgiving for try hards like me and apart from one of two tatty Polaroid no evidence remains Grin

DareDevil223 · 30/08/2021 11:32

I was a teenage goth in the mid-80s. I wore black or blue blusher in a straight line along my cheekbones. I had a Biba red eyeshadow. I had dyed black, crimped, spiked hair and wore white theatrical panstick. Chanel used to do a white loose powder that was amazing.

Obvs I wore massive amounts of black eyeliner and used to copy make up from pictures of Siouxsie Sioux.

I used to go to Goth and alternative nightclubs and my boyfriends wore more makeup than me. Damn I had fun. Growing up in the 80s was the best Smile

TheQueef · 30/08/2021 11:53

My brothers were the same DDevil mascara and eyeliner, hair streaked with a crochet hook and ripped inner tube and the stack of plastic bangles showing off the 3/4 sleeve of the massive shouldered blazers.

I longed for crimpers in my punk phase. My peroxide mohawk was often floppy and disappointing regardless of the Insett.

TheVolturi · 30/08/2021 12:00

When I look back at the 80s I just think that the blokes looked amazing with eyeliner!

TheQueef · 30/08/2021 13:22

Remember the Brut smell at 7pm on Fridays?
You could smell it on every single street like a mushroom cloud of maleness!
That and Old Spice are truly nostalgic for me.

WhoppingBigBackside · 30/08/2021 18:19

No7 Plum Beautiful and Blusher tins from M&S.
