Can’t see a thread so I thought I’d start one. Yes, it’s unbelievably early, but I noticed Glossybox have already revealed their Advent Calendar contents for this year. Saw this reveal on YouTube this morning:

Have to say it doesn’t wow me, but there’s plenty of time and many more Advent Calendars to come, I’m sure! Grin

Right, I caved and ordered F&M. Someone posted on another thread that people might have been holding out for Liberty and now decide F&M is best, so I couldn't wait any longer. Anyone else begrudge paying £225 for a calendar and still being charged £6 for delivery..?

There are still quite a few to announce contents though. John Lewis, Fenwick, Selfridges, NAP... Hope I don't get calendar regret.

Housewife2010 · 03/09/2021 10:33

"Drawers of Disappointment" should feature in the title of part 2 of this Advent Calendar thread.

PomRuns · 03/09/2021 10:37

I’ve had Liberty for the past 5 years - I’m not slightly tempted this year. Wonder if they will have lots left ?
John Lewis is often good - I don’t think I can hold out though. @Luvacuppatea could well be right re fortnums.

MidnightMeltdown · 03/09/2021 10:46

Has anyone seen anything on a net a porter ac yet?

Betsy88 · 03/09/2021 10:50

Some details of the Net-A-Porter one here featuring the ubiquitous Augustinus Bader and erm, a red eye liner.

Thank you. 😊

Yes, me! Last year I paid extra to have it delivered on a particular day, and it didn't even arrive on that day. I think that they were all dispatched late. Needless to say, I asked for a full refund on the postage, which they did provide.

Viviennemary · 03/09/2021 10:53

Its a bit rich that John Lewis is sold out already. At the beginning of September. Its a joke. Maybe they dont make much profit on them. Seems odd when they are supposed to be struggling.

Luvacuppatea · 03/09/2021 10:58

@Viviennemary I think the ‘sold out’ refers to last year’s JL calendar - I’ve not seen any mention of this years yet so you could still be in luck (that is if the contents are what you are looking for 😊)

clary · 03/09/2021 10:59

When does the CB one go on sale? I am getting itchy fingers

MidnightMeltdown · 03/09/2021 11:02

@Betsy88 - thank you.

What is it with the s*@#ing rich cream in everything, every year? AB must be handing out free samples to stores by the bucket load.

Net a Porter is claiming 17 full sizes so will be interesting to see what they count as full size.

Luvacuppatea · 03/09/2021 11:02

Love the ‘drawers of disappointment’ @wheresmyshoe - maybe this could catch on as the new way of deciding which calendar to get - just add up the number of ‘drawers of disappointment’ in each one and buy the one with the least 🤣

Hekatestorch · 03/09/2021 11:03

I am so confused.

Not sure if to pick the Feel unique or F&M (is that one skin care only) or wait for space NK!

Why is this so hard!!!

Hekatestorch · 03/09/2021 11:04

I am a first timer, if anyone has a recommendation, by the way.

Its been years since I have actually looked after myself, so have no idea if alot of the products are any good.

clary · 03/09/2021 11:04

DID NOT KNOW about CB Blue Light discount, that makes it a no brainer for me :) now just need to make sure I don't miss it

Offredismysister · 03/09/2021 11:09

@Luvacuppatea you could patent the drawers of disappointment formula 😂. Liberty is disappointing, there seems to be hardly any full size items. And the REN, the rich cream & 3 piddly 2ml perfume samples! I love getting the diptyque candle. I’m edging towards fortnum, but am tempted to see what JL & Selfridges offer.

Viviennemary · 03/09/2021 11:09

Thanks luvacuppatea. Its a bit confusing when there is one up on the website saying one in stock at Nottingham. But it does sound a really good one.

MidnightMeltdown · 03/09/2021 11:18

Hmmm... I was planning to get F&M and Liberty, but now not feeling it for Liberty. I might consider CB or Net a Porter instead, or maybe I'll save myself some money and go for Next 🤔

I've never had Selfridges or JL, they haven't appealed to me in the past, but will be interested to have a look at this years offering.

ashmts · 03/09/2021 11:23

@Hekatestorch Have you gone to www.beautyadventcalendar.net and checked the contents? F&M is mainly scents/room sprays/self-care stuff I'd say, with a little skin care in there. No make-up so it just depends what you're looking for. Budget will have a lot to do with it too. Next, ASOS and M&S can be good gateway calendars for your first time, but Space NK/CB etc are good if you want a special treat and aren't so worried about budget.

@MidnightMeltdown The sizes are listed if you scroll down on that link. They do look good sizes actually - 30ml BS serum, 30ml AB cream (although, yawn), 270g candle, 250ml bubble bath. It looks like a good calendar but I'm still happy with my F&M choice (fortunately).

MidnightMeltdown · 03/09/2021 11:33

Thanks @ashmts

Net a Porter actually looks pretty good if those are the sizes (barring red eyeliner and beauty restorer!). Even the rich cream is actually a full 30ml size. However, I think I got the cleansing mask, body cocoon and pillow mist last year.

Luvacuppatea · 03/09/2021 11:35

@Viviennemary I’ve liked the look of the JL calendar in the past but the thing that stops it getting onto my ‘buy’ list is that the sizes of products have tended to be small, sample sized, whilst a lot of other calendars offer a mix of full size, travel and sample size. Will be interesting to see what they offer this year though.......

TheRealMummyPig · 03/09/2021 11:36

Anyone know if there will be a proper advent calendar from Liz Earle?

lefthandedoctopus · 03/09/2021 11:39

Last year I indulged and got Cult Beauty and Net A Porter ACs - no regrets there as last winter was particularly grim and that brought some cheer. I don't think I'll get one again though as this year's offerings are quite lacklustre. All the GWP's have seemed a bit boring too recently - which is great as it's weaning me off my skincare addiction Smile

lefthandedoctopus · 03/09/2021 11:43

I was holding out hopefully for N-a-P but by looking at Betsy88s link I don't rate it at all, it's got 3 products exactly the same as last year - stupid rose quartz face massager, Omorovizca (?) clay mask and AB rich cream - they were all duds anyway for me. MidnightMeltdown I don't think it is a 30ml AB Rich cream, as in the actual photo of the calendar you can see the 15 ml size bottle. I think it's just links to the products not actual sizes... Hmm

MidnightMeltdown · 03/09/2021 11:44

These have been my thoughts exactly about JL in the past. The products have seemed perfectly nice, but I don't want a bunch of minis, especially not at that price point. For me, the value just hasn't been there with the JL ac.
