Oh dear God help me. My first date in 18 years!

I am going on a DATE. I am 50, newly single and I need help to get ready!!!

It’s next Sunday, we are going around a gallery/stately home type place. I have never met him in real life and my confidence has just ebbed away!

I’m 5’8” very too heavy size 18 and blonde. I have good hair, a nice face and then it starts to go meh the further down I go.

So far I think I’ve settled on a maxi dress with a small sleeve, bit of cleavage at the front, but not sure about footwear. Or anything else for that matter. I’ve got one good hoik-em-up bra.

Help. I really don’t want him to be horrified and leg it. I mean, I know he’s a nice person and that’s unlikely but, well, you know...

@nearlynermal I was on Guardian Soulmates for years (on and off between relationships) which was genuinely the best - I met lots of interesting, mostly decent people. I also made some friends out of it. That closed last year and since then I've been on Match.com. It's not as good and I have to do much more filtering as there are loads of fake profiles - but I use it as a distraction from the grind of routine. I've been on a lots of dates and made one really good friend from it. Not actively looking for love but open to it if I find it.

I’m back in the car!

It was very pleasant and I think he fancied me - lots of hand on arm/back as we wandered about. And a big kiss on the way back but not a snog. He’s taller than I expected, which is good, and v intelligent but also not very domestic somehow - I suspect his house is a confirmed bachelor pad. I liked him and I got butterflies at the thought of getting a grip of him. But, I think he needs a bit of work. Would I see him again? Yes.

Great update too. Sometimes the really intelligent people that I’ve come across (via work) tend to be lacking in common sense! Not all but some. They are often quite lovely though.
