Oh dear God help me. My first date in 18 years!

I am going on a DATE. I am 50, newly single and I need help to get ready!!!

It’s next Sunday, we are going around a gallery/stately home type place. I have never met him in real life and my confidence has just ebbed away!

I’m 5’8” very too heavy size 18 and blonde. I have good hair, a nice face and then it starts to go meh the further down I go.Blush

So far I think I’ve settled on a maxi dress with a small sleeve, bit of cleavage at the front, but not sure about footwear. Or anything else for that matter. I’ve got one good hoik-em-up bra.

Help. I really don’t want him to be horrified and leg it. I mean, I know he’s a nice person and that’s unlikely but, well, you know...

I would not go around a stately home. Bit long. Too much walking. First dates 1-2 hours tops 1 ideally. Quick drink. Quick chat. Thank him for a lovely time. Leave.
You’ll feel absolutely dumb if you spend a whole afternoon shlepping around with him and he doesn’t call. The key to OLD is keeping it moving. Lots of quick meet and greet type dates.

Shuffleuplove · 13/08/2021 22:10

It’s not actually a stately home but a very public place with things to see. And a cafe. It’s the sort of place that can be all done v quickly or can be spun out, with places to have a massive passionate kiss!

Kiss?? Confused As I said, short, quick, meet and greets work best. Even if going well.

Positivelyrandom · 13/08/2021 22:18

Sounds like a fab place for a date - not too much pressure, a few things to look at, so you’re not facing each other for hours…Sounds great - as do you! You’ll look fab, hope you have a great time x

Shuffleuplove · 13/08/2021 22:20

If you don’t kiss, how do you know if there’s any chemistry?? I don’t want to waste my time on someone who is a weird snogger! You know, a snorty-clicker. Or a dribbler.

Thankyou, Positivelyrandom! Smile

Just came on to say you sound lovely and I hope you have a great time.

I sincerely hope you don’t get ‘a dribbler’ Grin. My weirdest kiss was an otherwise delightful chap who pecked like a bird going in for crumbs off a bird table.

Lifeispassingby · 14/08/2021 04:34

Good luck AOP and keep us posted on how it went!

coodawoodashooda · 14/08/2021 10:56
@coodawoodashooda embarrassed to say that you’re looking for a someone? I’ve spent far too long in a miserable marriage so I’d like a taste of just light company and fun, instead of the foggy soggy tight arsed shite I’ve put up with for a decade and a half!

Try it! You might meet someone nice!
Thank you. I love the way you have described what you are looking for. That would be perfect. I really hope this works out for you.

doodleygirl · 14/08/2021 11:04

OP you sound fun, I hope you have the best time and I know you will look and feel fab

StarlightLady · 14/08/2021 11:29

...and at least a kiss! Maybe more!

66babe · 14/08/2021 12:25

@Shuffleuplove you do know that all we are waiting for now is to find out if he is a dribbly snorty - clicker ! 🤣
So keeping fingers crossed for you .. far too invested in this , I almost considered shaving my legs as well 🤭

Shuffleuplove · 14/08/2021 12:37

It’s brilliant to know I have you all cheering me on!!! He’s gone a bit quiet so I’m kind of thinking this may be a one snog wonder, but, it’s getting me back out there! I’m excited but also oscillating between feeling like Beyonce, and then mortal terror.

What time's it at? You've got me hooked on this thread too. You've cheered me up, OP. I'm in a similar boat, 52 and out of a long term relationship too. You must report back ASAP!

Shuffleuplove · 14/08/2021 13:18

Early afternoon tomorrow!

Jumpalicious · 14/08/2021 13:41

Ohhh good luck, you sound great!

Shuffleuplove · 14/08/2021 16:06

Thankyou!

I have commenced my “toilette” and tried perming my eyelashes. Waste of time. Only did one and it made no difference whatsoever. I was fearful of a Clockwork Orange situation but nope, nothing.

Next, teeth whitenibg.

This is my new favourite thread. 😍

I've been single for 8 years since divorcing a narc. Couldn't face dating AT ALL until the last few weeks, but I'm 52 so may have long missed my window. Will follow to see how you get on.

Have a fab time! Hope he's not a dribbler 🤣

Pinkbonbon · 14/08/2021 16:36

Ooh good luck teeth whitening. What are you going to use? Been thinking mine need done too but you always hear such horror stories about some if the stuff being dangerous.

Shuffleuplove · 14/08/2021 16:39

Oh do it Esca!

Pinkbourbon I’m using some potent looking stuff that I got off Amazon. You leave it on for 15 mins. Instant Towie teeth apparently.

My date tomorrow has texted again to confirm, and whilst I was trying to be all “yeah, plenty of fish” etc I caught myself really really smiling. Grin

yorkshireme · 14/08/2021 16:40

I love this, OP. You sound like a thoroughly wonderful person. I hope it goes really well for you.

crimsonlake · 14/08/2021 17:11

After all this build up I hope you are not disappointed. On the rare times I date, I wash my hair, dress smart casual and that's about it. Fingers crossed for you tomorrow.

AdaFuckingShelby · 14/08/2021 17:50

Placemarking. Hope it goes well for you. Good luckSmile

Flyinggeese1 · 14/08/2021 18:24

Have a great time OP.

Shuffleuplove · 14/08/2021 22:04

So, I got the allinone wear your own bra thing on, which was a bit like giving birth, and it sort of does something weird to the bit above my muff, but the dress looks better with it than without.

The teeth whitening stuff has worked beautifully BUT it absolutely knacked. I was supposed to leave it on for 15 mins but I managed 5 and I think it’s took off some gum.

I bought a glycolic peel thing today too and have done that and am shiny and smooth, ready for my green primer and foundation tomorrow. And I got my new lenses from the opticians.

I’ve shaved my legs and pits but left everywhere else, just removed the cobwebs, and he won’t be seeing that anyway. I’ve got white personal hair though so that needs to go. Or be dyed. Or a merkin.
