Bootcut trousers - is anyone wearing them?

I had to buy a few pairs of work trousers, since I've lost a fair bit of weight. I picked up some bootcut trousers (which I think I last wore mid-00s?), which should arrive in a few days. DH was like "oh right, are those a thing again?", and I'm second-guessing myself Confused
Have a fallen for a scam by Big Trouser to get us to move from skinnies and straights, or are they actually a thing again?

I’m wearing bootcut jeans again and I love them. So comfy!

I’m still wfh but I’ll be getting some bootcut trousers for when I go back to the office.

stealingbeauty · 07/08/2021 19:47

I’ve got some beautiful black wool bootcut trousers. I love them. I think they’re a thing again, but they’re definitely “acceptable” (fashion-wise) at the very least...

Fifipop185 · 07/08/2021 19:49

Teen DD is wearing bootcut jeans and loves them. They flatter her figure and if she feels great then I'm all for that. She doesn't care if they're in or out of fashion, so if you like them, wear them!

Elouera · 07/08/2021 19:53

I never stopped wearing them!

Those skinny things look dreadful on me, whereas bootcut is far more flattering. I don't care what the fashion is currently, I prefer something that suits my figure.

DinosaurDiana · 07/08/2021 19:55

No, skinnies all the way !

lindyloo57 · 07/08/2021 19:58

I've started wearing them again, I got mine on ebay three pairs of oasis scarlet jeans, I used to wear them in 2000, I loved them then and now.

Gwenhwyfar · 07/08/2021 20:02

I used to love them, but haven't got used to them being in fashion again so they still look strange to me.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 07/08/2021 20:04

I never stopped!

FourEyesGood · 07/08/2021 20:05

I’m another one who never stopped. I tried skinny jeans and hated them.

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 07/08/2021 20:05

Fashion-obsessed DD has confirmed that they are a ‘thing’ again and that skinnies are over for the youth. They are vastly more flattering for those of us who are ample of thigh. Personally, I never stopped wearing them as no other style suits my figure and I’m a great believer in wearing what suits me, rather than wearing things in fashion that I look terrible in.

LadyLolaRuben · 07/08/2021 20:09

I have lots of different cut jeans - always have. Been wearing bootcut since late 90s.

Fairunibutterfly · 07/08/2021 20:09

I also never stopped. I have bigger thighs and skinnier calves and always have had so hate skinny trousers. Bootcut looks so much better on me. I’ve dabbled in straight jeans (not quite skinny but still smaller on the calf) which aren’t so bad but bootcut works best.

I’m not really a fashion person though so go with what I like/what looks flattering on me.

This! At one time I could never buy jeans but skinny really don't flatter my thunder thighs.

🙏🙏🙏🙏 please may they be back in main stream fashion again

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 07/08/2021 21:59

I have two pairs of Oasis Scarlet under the bed, ready to wear :D

lindyloo57 · 07/08/2021 22:16

Dazzle, I only gave my old ones away to a chaity shop last year, mind you they were size 8s I now wear a 10

CheerfulBunny · 07/08/2021 22:26

I watched Coyote Ugly on Disney+ the other day only about 25 years too late and the bootcut trouser was very much in evidence, along with screaming and dousing people in alcohol while shoving your crotch in their face... I spent the whole film thinking 'God, I used to have a top/skirt/bootlace necklace/pair of jeans like that!' It was marvellous. Terrible film though.

Ericaceae · 07/08/2021 22:27

Hmm, interesting, thanks all. They did used to really suit me - I'm short with an ample bum and thighs, so I felt they used to "balance" me. I haven't bought any for years since they were hard to get.
I think the PP who says the bit about them looking weird now because they haven't been in fashion has it spot on. I guess I'll need to see what they're like when they arrive!

What I won't be doing is pulling a wrap dress out the wardrobe to wear over them, with super pointy flats. Though I did buy a pair of pointy flats during the summer again, so maybe... Grin

Ooh can i ask where you got them from and do they have pockets?? I've been looking for some trousers for work and bootcut +pockets are my holy grail 😂
(Teen dd has recently started wearing bootcut and assures me only millennials wear skinnies these days)

Ericaceae · 07/08/2021 23:30

They were just out of Next - so nothing too exciting. "Tailored bootcut trousers". I don't think they do have pockets, looking at the picture Shock

PickAChew · 07/08/2021 23:32

No. I'm not going back there. I have ridiculously short legs so they look daft on me and tripped and permanently damaged an elbow last time the flappy bastards were in.

DGFB · 08/08/2021 08:08

No I refuse to go back. I’m mid 40s and it wouldn’t work

brokenbiscuitsx · 08/08/2021 08:15

They’re ok until you go out in the rain, then you have wet flapping bit of material around your ankle 😁

MrsMaizel · 08/08/2021 08:30

Tried them on and couldn't stand the sheer amount of fabric . My SD wears them but looks like we did in the 1970s with long hair and said jeans. Nothing is new .

MissyB1 · 08/08/2021 08:34

Yes I’ve ditched skinnies, I’ve lost weight and actually skinnies look ridiculous on me now. Bootcut are far more flattering, they give me a figure.
