Bootcut trousers - is anyone wearing them?

I had to buy a few pairs of work trousers, since I've lost a fair bit of weight. I picked up some bootcut trousers (which I think I last wore mid-00s?), which should arrive in a few days. DH was like "oh right, are those a thing again?", and I'm second-guessing myself Confused
Have a fallen for a scam by Big Trouser to get us to move from skinnies and straights, or are they actually a thing again?

I'm delighted they're back :D Just a shame I can't fit in the ones I still have from the late 90s/early 2000s anymore!

lindyloo57 · 09/08/2021 15:50

I wear them with flats

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 16:02

Just had a little trying on session. They look fine with Converse and my 'posh' black trainers. Not so good with white Stans (too American tourist). Good with all of my heeled boots.

Geamhradh · 09/08/2021 16:16

Never stopped. Bootcut, straight or wide all the way. All very flattering.
Skinnies are fine if you are Kate Middleton or 16.

Iamthewombat · 09/08/2021 16:21

But nobody wears heels these days and certainly when young women wear them, they wear them with flats, usually trainers.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Most of the younger women I’ve seen wearing slim flares are wearing wedges with them, or block heels. Which is probably because, irrespective of whether you like heels or think that nobody is wearing them (which you might change your mind about if you look around Manchester or any northern city on a Saturday night), they definitely improve the look of that shape of trousers or jeans.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 16:36

I've seen lots of young women wearing heels recently, but all with micro mini dresses, skin tight, or just with belted shirts, worn as very short dresses.

stillcrazyafterall · 09/08/2021 16:48

Love them, they make my (humongous) feet look smaller. Skinny jeans make me look like Minnie Mouse

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 09/08/2021 16:53

Well I saw a woman at the weekend who was wearing bootcut jeans, court shoes, bomber jacket, handbag on a chain and a “get me the manager” haircut. She was in her 30s I’d say so retro is clearly back!

Iamthewombat · 09/08/2021 17:13

and a “get me the manager” haircut.

Oooh what does that look like??

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 17:23

It looks like hair. What a ridiculous way to describe somebody!
crimsonlake · 09/08/2021 17:45

Another one who never stoped wearing them, never realised that they were considered out of fashion. I tohught anything went these days in the jeans sense.

Why do some women do this?

It’s ok to have a difference of opinion without bringing others down for different fashion choices ffs Angry

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 18:01

Skinnies quite suit me, imo. I am not Kate M, 16 or anywhere near as skinny as I once was. It's nice to have a change though - I'll probably still wear skinnies too.

Odile13 · 09/08/2021 18:10

I wear them. I never stopped! I don’t care whether anybody else wears them or if they’re in fashion. They suit my shape and I feel comfortable in them.

MissyB1 · 09/08/2021 18:11

I’m 53 wear bootcut jeans with flip flops/ trainers/ boots. I can’t wear heels, have never been able to walk in them.
I wear fitted t shirts / long sleeve tops with my bootcuts.

I was thinking of daytime rather than 'out out', I suppose. Also, I see them being worn in a more casual/hippy way by teenagers, rather than dressed up for a night out.
toolazytothinkofausername · 09/08/2021 18:22

I'll tell you what jeans you should wear... the ones that suit your body shape!

As long as you look good it won't matter if what you're wearing is in fashion.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 09/08/2021 18:37

Bootcut jeans always make me think of good times in my life, teenager in the 00's 😁

I wanted to be Britney, and most of my jeans were like hers in this pic. Obscenely low on the hips with thong hanging out the back, classy, covered in rips and dragging on the floor if I wore them with trainers cos I'm a short arse.

I'm 33 now, don't think I can get away with wearing my jeans like that anymore 😁

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 09/08/2021 18:54

I always wear them. They suit my shape more than any other trouser. I always wear what suits me regardless of what's in or out.
Tried skinnies once. They were not skinny on me.

stripedbananas · 09/08/2021 20:27

I recently got a very old pair of bootcut jeans down from the loft and I have to admit they went straight in the bin. My DD wears flared jeans which flatter her but bootcut not so much.

lindyloo57 · 09/08/2021 20:48

Is a good job we all like different styles, would not like to be dressed all the same. We all have different figures, so will suit different styles.

EllaPaella · 09/08/2021 21:30

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind haha yes all the 90's jeans had crazy low waist and required a wash board stomach. Thank goodness for
Mid and high rise! Grin

EllaPaella · 09/08/2021 21:32

And in the 00's I wore my low waist boot-cuts with kitten heels, I can't imagine ever wearing that combo again!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 09/08/2021 21:53

@EllaPaella haha- I remember stealing some kitten heels off my mum around that time 😂

No way could I get away with Britney jeans anymore! I've just bought some mid rise boyfriend jeans, I wish I could relive my Britney wannabe days though 😂

Coogee · 09/08/2021 23:37

I don’t get it when people say skinnies make their legs look like parsnips 🤣 I mean, that’s just, that’s just a leg shape!

I reckon mine look more like carrots.
