Bootcut trousers - is anyone wearing them?

I had to buy a few pairs of work trousers, since I've lost a fair bit of weight. I picked up some bootcut trousers (which I think I last wore mid-00s?), which should arrive in a few days. DH was like "oh right, are those a thing again?", and I'm second-guessing myself Confused
Have a fallen for a scam by Big Trouser to get us to move from skinnies and straights, or are they actually a thing again?

So pleased to be back in bootcut jeans again!

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 08/08/2021 08:44

I have some slightly bootcut jeans, but then I've always worn that style. Never could do skinnies - they make my legs look like parsnips.

Coffeepot72 · 08/08/2021 08:52

Yes I think they are back in fashion, which is a relief, because even though I will only be back in the office for 2 days per week, I need trousers that I can wear with ankle boots in the winter. Ankle grazers are fine in spring/summer but a nightmare to style with winter footwear

whenwillthemadnessend · 08/08/2021 09:15

They are back in a huge way. Zara has no skinny jeans now it's all about the flare.

Northernlass99 · 08/08/2021 09:26

Saw someone in them the other day and to me they still look frumpy and out dated. Can’t get excited about them. But all fashion goes around so I expect we will see more of them. I’m glad skinnies are not the only jean now..

OldTinHat · 08/08/2021 10:24

I've never stopped wearing them!

I don’t get it when people say skinnies make their legs look like parsnips 🤣 I mean, that’s just, that’s just a leg shape! I bet you don’t eorry your legs look like parsnips in a bikini or in shorts 🤣🤣🤣

That's not correct . Look again.

Why do people say such wrong things, knowing they are wrong! I was looking at Zara earlier, there’s loads. There is in fact a whole section for skinnies!

I love skinny or straight leg jeans with a big oversized jumper or cardigan and chunky boots. A lot of my winter knitwear wouldn't work so well with boot cut style.
I have tried to like them again, and wide fit jeans - but sadly they just look wrong on me nowadays. I'll be sticking to Skinny, slim leg and boyfriend style.
A lot of teens and early 20's round here are wearing flared or wide leg jeans but I haven't seen many in bootcut.

whenwillthemadnessend · 08/08/2021 14:33

Maybe online but in store it was all about the flare.

Blueskytoday06 · 08/08/2021 14:34

Nooooooooo

This is a good point. When skinnies came in, we had looser tops - I don't like oversized myself - but looser. The change in jeans style means having to buy almost a whole new wardrobe.

I need to try them on so online is no good :(

" I bet you don’t eorry your legs look like parsnips in a bikini or in shorts 🤣🤣🤣"

I don't impose my sausage legs on people by going around in bikinis or shorts.
I think my legs to look a bit crap in skinnies, but when everyone's wearing them it's different.

Iamthewombat · 08/08/2021 23:40

Have I fallen for a scam by Big Trouser

This made me laugh, OP.

Yes, they are back but they have been renamed ‘skinny flares’ so that we don’t get spooked.

I got some skinny flare jeans from M&S and they are fab. It’s quite a different look, and more glam than skinny/slim jeans or boyfriend jeans. My next buy will be skinny flare trousers. So you are on the zeitgeist!

Totallydefeated · 08/08/2021 23:46

So excited the bootlegs are back!

But where do we have the hemline? Last time I wore them I had super long ones to just show the tips of the toes of my high heel boots, and shorter ones to wear with trainers, but not so short to be ankle grazing, just to hit about halfway down the laces and about a cm or two from the floor at the back.

Where am I aiming the jean to stop now, in terms of how much shoe (or ankle? Please no!) will be showing? And flats or heels?

LadyCatStark · 08/08/2021 23:54

Oh man I wish I’d kept my bootleg jeans from the 2000s! I had some gorgeous ones😭

Iamthewombat · 09/08/2021 00:03

No ankle! And, they don’t really work with flat shoes. You need a bit of a heel.

Coffeepot72 · 09/08/2021 07:28

A previous poster makes a good point, that when skinnies came in we wore looser tops. It seems that tighter on the bottom half means looser on the top or vice versa (otherwise you look a bit shapeless IMO). So a change of shape with jeans/trousers can mean a whole different silhouette and therefore a whole new wardrobe if you’re not careful

lindyloo57 · 09/08/2021 08:50

Coffe, thats why I prefer bootcut styles, I suit fitted tops better as I have a inverted triangle shape so do notlook so good in loose tops.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 09/08/2021 14:53

But nobody wears heels these days and certainly when young women wear them, they wear them with flats, usually trainers.
SuperSketchy · 09/08/2021 14:59

Yes, I am wearing them and also straight leg. I prefer them to skinnies anyway.

canigooutyet · 09/08/2021 15:35

I never stopped wearing them. I wear whatever style I pull out first including some retro flares.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/08/2021 15:40

Right. I've bitten the bullet and bought a pair of slim flare jeans. Going to have a trying on session and see if I can make them work with a range of tops/shoes.
