My grey hair just doesn't suit me!

Been growing out my grey for 20 months.
It game through white first , now it's more patchy steel grey and darker bits at the back.
I wanted to embrace it and love it but it just doesn't suit me!
Looking for light brown hair dye recommendations please.

Have you tried using shampoo specifically for grey hair? I use the Lee Stafford range and find it highlights the white/grey hairs to a lovely steel colour, removing any yellow ness and adds shine which can sometimes be lacking. As many others have already said a great cut is vital as are strong eyebrows (I now dye mine since going grey).

I actually like your colour OP but if you're not feeling it then that's what matters.
I've had grey since I was 19, mostly at the front and now at 43 it's speckled throughout. I am naturally dark blonde but with olive toned skin and hazel eyes (What a combo!) My hair has been every colour of the rainbow and I prefer a darker colour but I'm dyed blonde now and have been for years. It's less hassle with roots and it blends the grey and makes me feel better.
I'll never grow my hair out. Some people do suit it but it's not for me. I can't stand mine when I've overdone the silver shampoo and it has a silver cast so nope not happening.

I don’t have any grey yet, which I’m actually surprised about but I’m not too fussed about going grey, I love grey hair on people, my MIL has grey hair and it’s stunning!

I’ll embrace it when it comes my way, but if you don’t like it then that’s a constant trip to the salon every 6-8 weeks...screw that!

Karwomannghia · 08/08/2021 16:17

I had a balayage at the hairdresser and I have done the roots with nice n easy number 6, everyone comments that it looks great. I’ll then get it done at the hairdresser in the future but the roots myself. If you can get it done initially at the hairdresser then ask what number to get to do your own roots.

Karwomannghia · 08/08/2021 16:41

Also I’ve tried a few different brands but nice n easy has always got the best coverage.

Well yes its a stereotype, but i like nice clothes and i like my hair coloured. Theres no virtue to going grey, and if it means you have to spend more time grooming, wearing more makeup etc to look halfway decent then whats the point.

It's not a competition... it really isn't.. not sure where you going with the virtue comment?

The point is that some people prefer it. Weird that we’re all different, isn’t it? It takes a lot less time to slap some red lipstick on every day than it took to colour my hair. Less, in fact because I always wore lipstick when I had my hair coloured.

And you don't have the root stress. I would still wear make up anyway

justasking111 · 09/08/2021 00:12

The home boxes were okay but my hair has thickened up so much since I stopped dyeing the roots

It's called Marion. Lots of places sell it including ebay and Amazon. I just put a slightly darker one on last night and only left it 15 mins... some effect but not as much. Says 20-45 mins. I think it needs to be 45. It's not such a faff as dye though as it's quite foamy and easy to just lather in and leave whilst you potter.

I'm impressed. Might grow all my grey out... but cover it all with this. Smile

Kintsugi16 · 14/08/2021 21:53

I think as you get older dyed hair just looks ridiculous. Dye is bad for you, expensive to maintain and let’s face it, who are you trying to kid?

woodhill · 14/08/2021 22:17

Does dying make your hair more grey and damage your hair, I've often wondered when I rushed to dye my first greys years' ago

Thank you, I have just ordered the dark blonde as from the reviews it sounds more like a light/mid brown. Some of the reviews of the other brown colours mention a reddish tinge which scares me a bit so hopefully this will do the job.

i have used a wella leave in colour which last about 6 washes but it only dyes the greys and does not touch the dyed part of my hair which is going a bit on the ginger side now but it does tone it all together a bit so it doesn't look so obviously "growing out"
