Thank you for the Tatler tiara articles. Something to keep dipping into. 😍
I'll have the Manchester tiara please, although it doesn't appear to have any direct links with Manchester.
Quite a way down the list of articles at November 2019 is one about how to wear a tiara correctly. It certainly isn't about plonking it on your head apparently.
I've tried to do a link but it seems to be beyond my phone's capabilities.

MotherofPearl · 04/08/2021 08:30

The Manchester tiara is also beautiful, good choice @latedecember1963.

@LittleBearPad oh that's interesting about the Kensington Palace exhibition. Is it on permanent display there I wonder? I'm going to the Royal Style in the Making exhibition at KP on Saturday, which I'm really looking forward to, but if I know I'm going to see the Fife tiara there, I'm going to be even more excited! My friend who is going with me is going to have to put up with a lot of swooning on my part!

@MotherofPearl - I hope we don't read of some sort of heist following the KP exhibition, after which the Fife tiara is nowhere to be found.....Hmm

Fingers crossed I'll be able to restrain myself @Maireas! I'll make sure my friend is primed to rein me in!

latedecember1963 · 04/08/2021 09:13

Ooh, MotherofPearl, I hope you're taking a notebook and pen with you to take lots of notes to report back to us after your visit.
I'd hoped to be able to go to see Diana's wedding dress but a trip to London isn't possible this summer unfortunately.

Just seen on Instagram that it's Meghan's 40th today.

latedecember1963 · 04/08/2021 12:01

It would have been the Queen Mother's birthday too. I think she would have been 121 because when I was growing up my parents said she was as old as the year.

AdaColeman · 04/08/2021 12:01

If we're having dibs on tiaras, please note me down for Princess Margaret's Poltimore tiara.
She snapped it up at auction not long before her wedding day.

It had been made by Garrards in the 1870s for Florence Bampfylde, Lady Poltimore, she was the great granddaughter of the playwright Richard Brindsley Sheridan and married to Augustus Bampfylde who was Treasurer of Victoria's household.

The Poltimore tiara also breaks down into a necklace and brooches, all of which Margaret wore frequently throughout her life time, so it was an exceptionally good buy for her. Like me, Margaret must have loved a bargain! Wink Wink

That's right, she was born in 1900.
KillingMeDeftly · 04/08/2021 12:17

Is the Poltimore tiara the one from the Margaret in the bathtub photo?

AdaColeman · 04/08/2021 12:40

Yes, Margaret was wearing the Poltimore tiara in her famous bathtub photo, shot by Tony AJ at his flat, he wasn't wearing many clothes either!

gingercat02 · 04/08/2021 12:51

Wonder who has Margaret's jewels? Would her estate have gone to her son or did she bequeath things to Sarah? I presume none of it was crown property

Lunde · 04/08/2021 13:05

The Valkyrie tiara seems ... well ... special.

Wonder what sort of event it was designed for?

AdaColeman · 04/08/2021 13:11

Most of Margaret's personal possessions including the tiara, were sold at auction after her death. There was quite a controversy at the sale of the Annigoni portrait by her son, but he later re purchased it. At one time it was on loan to the National Portrait Gallery, but I don't know where it is now.

Maireas · 04/08/2021 13:11

@AdaColeman - Poltimore tiara ✔️

Maireas · 04/08/2021 13:14

Yes, the Earl of Snowdon (then Viscount Linley) caused controversy by auctioning off many of his mother's possessions including the Poltimore tiara and other items. He'd already sold the property in Mystique which was left to him.

Can I have Eugenie's emerald wedding tiara if no one has dibs on it

Maireas · 04/08/2021 16:46

@MotherofPearl - Fife tiara ✔️
Any more tiara dibs?
Someone wanted Eugenie's wedding tiara but I can't remember who it was.
Frugalkitty has the Spencer one.

I'm also going to claim that Valkyrie tiara.
It's a bit bonkers but I love it. I'll hum Wagner while wearing it.
