Maybe the heat is going to my head but I quite fancy a pair of these lucyandyak.com/products/organic-originals-navy-blue?variant=8179677364327 Size 14 with big boobs, mid 40s. Am I mad?

I'm not a midi dress and white trainers person either.

Nextchapterofmybook · 23/07/2021 19:19

No not a fan. Way too mumsy for me.

Lovemusic33 · 23/07/2021 19:36

I’m almost 40 and own way too many pairs of dungarees 😬, I plan on wearing them forever.

Sheerheight · 23/07/2021 19:40

Why not? Jo Whiley wears dungarees and she looks great in them and she's over 50 i believe.

I otoh have never worn them and would look shit in them.

Lovemusic33 · 23/07/2021 19:41

These are my favourite pair and the best fit…

Gap do the best denim dungarees, they fit perfectly.

miltonj · 23/07/2021 19:57

Hate them. Wore denim ones when I was early 20s with Nike airs, straps down, and oversized hoodie, I did like that look, but as I've grown older, my style has changed. But don't personally like the new children's tv presenter look. But equally, I don't think anyone's too old for them, and you should wear exactly what you want to.

Craftycorvid · 23/07/2021 20:01

I love a good dunga’ and I’m a lot over 40. Grin. It was the MN collective wisdom that alerted me to the wearing of a lace blouse with dark denim dungas - I think it looks great. They streamline me if not too baggy, due to being one garment and nothing to break up my height, which is no bad thing when you’re short.

Immaback · 23/07/2021 20:08

Oh I love these! I’m going to buy a pair thanks for the link.
Any idea what they’re like size/fit wise ? I’m worrying the navy ones might catch dust /dirt easily ...

Wbeezer · 23/07/2021 20:10

Im sitting wearing a wear right now and I'm 53. My mum still wears them and she 79, in fact she has more fashionable wide legged ones than me (she wrote them in the 70s and just never stopped, they're her signature look!). 1

Snowdrop30 · 23/07/2021 20:11

@Immaback no idea, sorry. Just thinking of whether to get them or not. Will you report back?

@snowdrop30 I will !
Going to go with the 10 as opposed To the 8 and in the green corduroy . They look very comfy!

OrangeSamphire · 23/07/2021 20:21

They’ve become ubiquitous in certain areas. I went on a work trip to Surrey a few weeks ago and every coffee shop seemed to be full of 40+ women wearing dungarees with a Breton top underneath. If they weren’t wearing that, it was a flowery dress with white trainers.

There is no mum uniform where I live (Cornwall) so either of these outfits would probably be ok. Maybe it’s the same where you live. Otherwise, steer clear!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 23/07/2021 20:23

No. It slightly makes me cringe.

Snowdrop30 · 23/07/2021 20:25

No mum uniform where I live either (Scotland). But there are a lot of cobbles, so anything I can wear sneakers or brogues with gets the thumbs up from me. Heels lead to a lot of twisted ankles...

I've got a pair and they're very generous. I love dungarees, they're perfect for my work. I can put them on and they're comfortable and I don't have to worry about re-adjusting anything or flashing bits and bobs while I'm sitting, kneeling etc. I wear them with DMs in winter, trainers/vans/birkies in summer. Any old T-shirt underneath.

KirstenBlest · 23/07/2021 20:57

@Snowdrop30, try fat face.

Whybirdwhy · 23/07/2021 21:08

I'm 40, not that attractive and live in my dungarees. I bought them assuming that I would look like a giant twat (my husband confirmed this) but they're comfy so I don't give a shit. To my surprise, several strangers have approached me, complimented me and asked where I got them. I just wear them with a t-shirt underneath and the legs rolled up to expose a bit of ankle. And converse.

nordica · 23/07/2021 21:11

I'm fast approaching 40 and own several pairs which I plan to keep wearing for a long time - corduroy is pretty much timeless after all, and I don't actually care what anyone thinks. I also love pinafores.

I would say size down with the Lucy & Yak corduroy Originals if you're between sizes at all. I'm a definite 14 post-lockdown and the 12 in these fits me with room to spare.

BajanB · 23/07/2021 22:27

I’m in my 60s and have some black ones from run and fly. They fit so well and I don’t feel like Mr Tumble in them. They’re a really flattering cut. I love them. I would only wear them in darkish plain colours like navy, black and olive, indigo denim.

sleepyshiftworker · 23/07/2021 22:45

I'm
Wearing mine right now

I own several pairs.

sleepyshiftworker · 23/07/2021 22:54

L&Y advice

The different ranges size up differently. Check the measurements.

There's second hand selling on L&Y community Facebook pages which is a good place to trade / pick up stuff

Alexa trousers are fucking comfortable

I bought one pair of originals in sea blue and now own Berry red, teal, blue raspberry and the sage green. They've been a compulsion of mine. I get lots of compliments especially the brighter ones. Some one says some thing every time I wear them. Every single time.

They are the most comfortable items of clothing and I would wear them everyday if i could.

I wash at 30 on a quick cycle and they've not shrunk but one pair have been in a tumble drier and they didn't shrink massively.

AllisoninWunderland · 23/07/2021 22:58

Age is just a number.

What matters is if you like them you wear them. Simple as that.

Women don’t suddenly stop being cool/trendy etc at 40 😝

ShowOfHands · 23/07/2021 22:58

I've got loads of L&Y and Run and Fly dungarees and wear them A LOT. You need to research L&Y well to get the right fit as the ranges vary. I buy mine through FB and depop.

Ignore the naysayers. If you want to wear them, just do it.
