Maybe the heat is going to my head but I quite fancy a pair of these lucyandyak.com/products/organic-originals-navy-blue?variant=8179677364327 Size 14 with big boobs, mid 40s. Am I mad?

I’d love to wear dungarees but sadly, I can’t shake of the mindset that I would look idiotic. Or like a kids’ tv presenter from the 80s.

Greenfieldsandpaddocks · 24/07/2021 10:54

@Jackgrealishscurtains

I bought some L and Y dungarees - I am very short, with short legs and the top part didn't even reach up to my tits without giving me a major fanny wedgie! Bizarre sizing!

I quite like dungarees in general - they are a little bit 'oh look how effortlessly quirky and unique I am by wearing the exact same thing as a load of other women my age' but if you like them then go for it!

Oh no I want to buy a pair. But I'm 36 inch chest and same for waist (I don't have a waist) and hips 41 inch -really worried about getting a pair now.
dottiedodah · 24/07/2021 11:10

I am of the opinion that whatever you want to wear you can! Surely these days we can wear what we want regardless of age / figure and so on? Off you go and if you like wearing them and are happy you will feel good!

goose1964 · 24/07/2021 11:51

It's up to you, there's no age limit, but I'd look like children's TV presenter in them.

KirstenBlest · 24/07/2021 13:02

@Snowdrop30, don't size down in L&Y, but read the description of the different styles. They don't look as good unless they are loose.

I haven't bought any since they changed the sizing, but I'm shortish and the S30 were fine on me.

Some of the styles looked better than others on me.
I'm not an apple or a pear.

nordica · 24/07/2021 13:33

KirstenBlest the new sizing is much bigger - or rather, the cut has changed. I used to wear M30 in their old sizing and that should equal to 12R in the current sizing, but they are much wider around the hips and legs in particular now. My UK clothes size is currently 14 but 14R in these would be absolutely massive!

Some of the styles fit differently, the Eastons for example have wider legs and more fitted waist, and the Lunas are cropped with low cut sides and no stretch in the fabric.

Stichintime · 24/07/2021 13:41

LTB

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2021 13:43

No, not for me.

KirstenBlest · 24/07/2021 13:52

It's the Lunas I wear. The Umi ones didn't suit me.

TheHoundsofLove · 24/07/2021 14:39

I love denim dungarees and think they suit me. Although 11 year old son always laughs and takes the mick when I wear them… I do personally think they look best if they’re quite fitted through the hip/bum area and then looser in the leg. I then wear the ankles rolled up with either trainers or sandals.

Immaback · 24/07/2021 20:45

I’ve decided against the l&y ones as I’m no longer in the U.K. and it’s not free returns( have been burnt with crazy return costs with other brands and don’t want to risk it). Loving all the suggestions on here and I’m most definitely going to invest in a pair. Although at this stage my maternity ones are probably close to fitting again Grin

fuckyeahpercywigwam · 25/07/2021 19:52

A big fat no from me. Yes, I know that they ooze comfort, in fact I have a couple of pairs kicking around in the dark recesses of my wardrobe.

They seem to be almost a standard uniform for the 'yummy mummy' brigade, complete with the stripey breton underneath.

Or, they are worn by older women.....around my age (64) who want to appear to be quirky and unconventional, usually managing to look ridiculous at the same time.

Snowdrop30 · 25/07/2021 20:51

Oh golly, it isn't easy is it @fuckyeahpercywigwam. I've been looking for good fashion brands which might sound my (mid forties, perimenopausal figure). It's Dullsville out there. Beige, navy, grey 'classic' separates or loud tent dresses. Unless you are a skinny Minnie and can rock Cos, what are we to do?

ILoveShula · 27/07/2021 11:24

@Snowdrop30, look at brands that are more suitable. I like Sahara, Masai, Two Danes, Rundlolz etc.

Snowdrop30 · 27/07/2021 11:27

@ILoveShula Thanks, never heard of those brands before!

OP posts:
ILoveShula · 27/07/2021 11:54

They do have the tent-like dresses but they have things that are more streamlined too. A bit 'age appropriate' but plenty of good things. Kin from JL is quite good and Seasalt is decent quality. If you like Seasalt you might like Poetry and Nomads. Mistral has gone into receivership (a real shame) I think so there are brand new things in my local charity shops for about £10-15 there. There is also M&S, which I think is pretty good.

If you go on ebay and look at a certain brand, it will suggest similar searches.

Some designery french brands are good. Isabel marant, agnes b, comptoir de cotonniers etc.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 27/07/2021 11:55

I'm in my mid 30s and have a few pairs of dungarees from run and fly. Im a definite pear shape (10 on top and 14 on bottom at the moment!) I wear mine rolled up with a co ordinating tshirt and either converse or sparkly DM boots in winter .

I do live in funky print leggings, printed tshirts. I no longer care what other people think, I dress for me and wear what I love. If that's rainbow leggings covered in biscuits and a tshirt with a giant cat on thats what I'm wearing! (Yesterday's outfit!)

Go for it! Confidence is the best addition to an outfit, if you feel good then you will ooze Confidence 😁

ILoveShula · 27/07/2021 17:56

@Snowdrop30, it should have read Rundholz. Their stuff is a bit 'lagenlook'

I only knew of it because a lady in front of me at the checkout in Waitrose just looked stylish and I asked her where she got her coat as it was so nice.

It wasn't so much what she was wearing and she was tallish and not particularly model-like in build, but she oozed confidence. I did like the coat - i think it was one with sleeves that you could zip back on.

I got the idea of jumpsuit/print dungarees by asking someone where her fab one from and she said she had worn it when pregnant in the 1970s. It looked great on her.

JingsMahBucket · 27/07/2021 18:31

@Snowdrop30 just wanted to say thank you for starting this thread. I’ve picked up a lot of ideas from here.

VanGoSunflowers · 27/07/2021 19:50

I’d never say that someone couldn’t wear something because of their age!

This thread has inspired me to order a pair Smile

Victoria1083 · 27/07/2021 22:38

I would avoid but of course, you are free to wear whatever you want. They just look so unflattering, sorry…

ILoveShula · 28/07/2021 08:53

If they are so unflattering, how come I get lots of compliments on them?

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 28/07/2021 09:08

....oh dear I have ordered my first pair of L&Y after reading this thread and decided to give them a try. But think I have made a mistake going down a size.

Ordered the original ones a size 12 I am usually a 14, hay ho, we shall see.

I am now of an age where I want to just try different things, because I can, but maybe I may just wear them in the house for comfort!

Its all your fault Snowdrop!

ILoveShula · 28/07/2021 09:38

Why did you order 12 if you are a 14? IIRC they do free returns.

They might fit but generally they are meant to be loose.

Lowlifeinhighplaces · 28/07/2021 09:47

I ordered the smaller size as reading comments lots said order down as they are very loose.

Shall see, they do free returns
