Best deodorant for dryness & smell?

102 replies

TomAllenWife · 20/07/2021 23:29

So last week I bought a Sure Max Strength stick, it's shit, I'm not dry and I smell worse than I would with normal deodorant

Usually use a sanex roll on or sure invisible spray

Anyone got any great suggestions please?

Mitchum pink spray hands down. And ALWAYS wash armpits with soap, not shower gel.

I use Mitchum 48 hour solid cream stick and alternate between the men’s and women’s fragrances.

Have used Mitchum since the 1970’s, back then it was a liquid in a glass bottle with a fabric/sponge type applicator/dibber on the end, you used it at night time for 2-3 consecutive nights and then only every 48 hours at night time thereafter. Daily showering & bathing didn’t reduce the efficacy at all.

Over the years I’ve tried other antiperspirant/deodorants but always returned to Mitchum. The only side effect (but not really) is that when I exert myself I may sweat a bit more between my boobs (not so niffy there) but my underarms are bone dry.🙂

I recently bought Mitchum I like it but my goodness I need about eight hands to press it down. Pretty sure I have a dodgy one!

Also when it's really hot I put a bit of nappy cream under my armpits using a tissue and wait for it to soak in then put spray on. It works wonders.

Mitchum, ive used it for years and years. Used to swear by the roll on but I much prefer the stick version now.

@fuxxake

Has anyone tried nuud?

I have. Terrible.

I really tried to go down the natural route, stuck it our for weeks and weeks, tried a few brands over time, doesnt work for me in the slightest

Also slightly off topic but if you find your clothes are smelly even after washing damp the clothes then add baking soda to water and pour it on the smelly part of the clothes and leave to soak for an hour and wash it as normal. Also takes out yellow stains on clothing. I do this on DP's work clothes.

@Notaroadrunner

Mitchum roll on and let it dry before putting on a top (I often use hair dryer if in a hurry).

Yes, I’ve done that in the past too with Mitchum roll on🤣 Prefer to use the stick one now.

Oh also, the Mitchum powder fresh was my favourite scent but it seems different now but not sure if it’s because ive switched from roll on to stick.

In the stick I love the pure fresh and the coconut versions

@PufferFish

Another vote for Mitchum. The expensive cream one. I tried the invisible gel which was the same price but it was sticky and made my underarms burn.
The cream one is £5, but worth every penny. I also use it on the inside of my thighs in warm weather if I’m wearing a skirt/dress. It works a treat, doesn’t show and doesn’t irritate my skin. It resolves both the thighs sweat and chub rub problem in one fell swoop Grin

Ooo! Thanks for the tip about chub rub. I’ll use my Mitchum stick next time I wear a dress.🥰

@peppermintpat

I'm late to the party with this one but if you have problem sweat then Perspirex applied at night practically stops the sweat ( and personally I only need to use it once a fortnight at bedtime then shower off in the morning), then you can use ANY roll on, spray etc that you fancy each day just as a back up (or booster). It itches like mad on application but soon wears off. You must shower it off in the morning.

Came to say this. I used to use perspirex but it spontaneously stopped working so I switched to Odaban which has been amazing for years.

I suffered dreadfully with hyperhydrosis as a teen, when I finally learned about this type of deodorant (originally on prescription, now from Amazon!) it was a game changer. Use daily till sweating is under control, then lessen off to avoid skin irritation. I use it about once every 2-3 WEEKS now so a bottle lasts aaaages. I do use Mitchum for a daily top up if needed 👍

I used to use Mitchum but moved to Salt of the Earth as wanted something more natural and the amazing thing is it stops any smell every bit as effectively . It doesn’t stop me sweat though so less good for Keeping armpits dry but I’m still a convert !

I don’t suppose any can be used in the face. I’m only half joking as I’m so sweaty!

Didn’t know about a coconut version, I love to wear coconut fragrance in the summer.
I usually go for whichever Mitchum cream stick is available at Tesco.

If you wear make up and have a sweaty face do not use oil based products. Powder is your friend and also a matte primer.

I’ve been using Trust for nearly 20 years.
Cream applied once a week, and highly effective.

So much love for mitchem I'm going to give it a go, they are offer at £1.50 at Tesco this week so I'll order a couple of the sprays. I don't like roll ons usually as they leave that wet feeling

Mitchum doesn't work for me, neither do sure, nivea, dove etc, from an odour and sweat point of view. They don't keep me dry and they don't stop body odour (never been quite sure why as I'm not an especially sweaty person). I use a crystal deodorant stone that I rub on wet armpits after my shower and it works brilliantly - it doesn't stop me sweating (but conventional anti perspirants didn't either) but there is no odour at all. I think it works by stopping bacteria growing on your skin and it's the bacteria combined with sweat that causes the body odour smell.

Yet another vote for the Mitchum. I've used the cream stick but prefer the roll on. Based on this thread I've just added the Mitchum fragrance free spray to my grocery shopping basket!

I bought some of the Trust deodorant cream after a thread a few weeks ago recommended it and its worked astonishingly well - before, my armpits would still smell when I got out of the shower, this was like a magic potion!

The powder scented Mitchum stick is amazing. It's the green and pink one. I use that with the pink sure anti perspirant spray on top. Double layer of roll on and spray does the trick

Definitely soap over shower gel and mitchum roll on.
