Are these Pensioner Sandals?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/07/2021 09:39

I'll be wearing them anyway because they are very comfortable, but it has been suggested to me that it might actually be illegal for anyone not in receipt of their state pension to appear in public in these?

I just need to know so I can run if the fashion police are nearby.

Maybe? Depends what you wear with them and also, your age.

Palavah · 01/07/2021 09:42

Yes, which is what's in fashion

ABitOfAShitShow · 01/07/2021 09:42

Yep. Smile

LivingLaVidaCovid · 01/07/2021 09:42

Kinda gross. Sorry.

TeddingtonTrashbag · 01/07/2021 09:43

Lol - I have similar and wear to work some days and everyone wanted to know where to get’em!
In a school, so no-one over the age of about 45.
Could be a lot of illegals out there soon 😀

TheHoneyFactory · 01/07/2021 09:44

By the way - not only teachers in case you were worrying about that demographic -yummy mummies too 😀
Coatandhat · 01/07/2021 09:45

Well I like them OP 😁 Where are they from?

nevernotstruggling · 01/07/2021 09:47

They are def gran sandals and not my thing but they are cute

Imdoingitnow · 01/07/2021 09:51

Can you define what you mean by pensioner or gran sandals as obviously I'm not sticking to the rules of this mumsnet warped vision of what a pensioner is.
1 I don't have bunions or corns or any kind of bad feet
2 I wear Birkenstock or whatever I like at the time - no mindless adherence to rules

Imdoingitnow · 01/07/2021 09:56

I'm perplexed that some of you seem unable to wear anything unless it gets the mumsnet seal of approval. Are you incapable of making your own mind up about what to wear - what to think??

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/07/2021 09:57

Ah, I am pushing 45, maybe it is me not the shoes! I am wearing them with an olive grey pleated skirt and black shell. The rest of me apparently is being let down by the shoes.

But my feet are determined to keep them and I actually think they look great.

I got them from TK Maxx for £14.99 and the brand is Bata. Very soft leather upper and lining, synthetic sole (obviously!).

@Imdoingitnow sometimes it's nice to hear other people's opinions on frivolous things, and mumsnet tends more towards 'honest' than than the polite/nice responses I would get from family or friends.

The whole of mumsnet is full of people asking for opinions on everything from weather to get divorced which jeans to buy 🤷‍♀️ seems odd to take issue with a sandals thread.

OP, I like the colour and style of the straps but I'm less keen on the sole. Suspect that will be less of a feature once you've got them on though.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 01/07/2021 10:13

The clothes we wear are one way in which we communicate with others, like it or not. It is great to get an impartial opinion on what my shoes are saying to the world!

It's often seems to me to be more than that - I frequently read: what is the mumsnet look, what is the mumsnet scarf? What are we wearing this summer? What is the mumsnet style?
I once heard from a wise old woman - a pensioner - still with her marbles! "Look what everyone else is wearing and wear something different"

I can't understand how people need to ask permission to wear something as basic as a pair of sandals And I take exception to being lumped together under the term pensioner or gran - it's ageist. I'm not a clone

You aren't all clones of each other so stop trying to be clones. .
Surely you can decide what to wear without asking for permission

DoucheCanoe · 01/07/2021 10:21

I'm early 30's and wear walking sandals day to day. Someone suggested they were frumpy - I told them I'm happy to put comfort over style.

If you like them who gives a shit?

LunaTheCat · 01/07/2021 10:23

It depends what you wear with them. I like the red - that gets a big tick. Pain your nails and you will be fine.

Imdoingitnow · 01/07/2021 10:26

Exactly @DoucheCanoe.

peridito · 01/07/2021 10:27

Bata ,now there's a blast from the past .Spoken as someone in their dotage .

Umbra · 01/07/2021 10:32

'I just need to know so I can run if the fashion police are nearby.'

At least you'll be doing it in comfort!

BikeRunSki · 01/07/2021 10:35

I love them, although I am 50. My youngest child is still at primary school though.

Where are they from @TheYearOfSmallThings

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 01/07/2021 10:36

I bought a pair of men's Ecco sandals this summer. I'm never wearing women's shoes again, I don't care what that says about me. They are quite ugly, but more in an in-your-face way than a pensioner compromise between cute and comfort.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/07/2021 10:37

If they were black or tan they’d be better. They’re okay.
