Are these Pensioner Sandals?

I'll be wearing them anyway because they are very comfortable, but it has been suggested to me that it might actually be illegal for anyone not in receipt of their state pension to appear in public in these?

I just need to know so I can run if the fashion police are nearby.

@Maireas

Indeed, bodies do change with age. What's not nice, *@Bagelsandbrie, is to suggest that age* is the factor in losing sense of fashion and style. I would suggest it's not age. Some women, in spite of infirmities, still look great! (I hope you find comfy shoes and clothes that look and feel great!)
Thank you. I do see what you mean. Flowers

@Bluntness100

Actually I’m fairly sure I had a pair like that when I was about ten. For me not granny ish but the sandals you’d see little girls running about in. I actually thought thru were kids shoes.
How true! During the late 60s I would have been a little reluctant to wear them, too close to children's sandals I had worn.

Aged 18 I loved my Dr Scholl sandals and a mini skirt just below bum length Shock

TeaAndStrumpets · 01/07/2021 18:06

Late 1960s of course, not my late 60s!

Long live pensioner sandals - comfortable, practical and good support. We should all embrace our inner OAP

@ChiefInspectorParker don't you think that mumnetters should avoid comments that can be seen as ageist, just like they shouldn't talk in terms that are deemed to be homophobic or racist or sexist etc etc

peaceanddove · 01/07/2021 21:26

My personal theory is that if you have pretty feet and a professional manicure then any sandal, pensioner-esque or not, looks good.

You can wear the most stunning sandals, but they will always look grim if you have cracked heels and manky toes.

Baycitystroller · 01/07/2021 21:28

Ageism is acceptable on MN in a way other isms are not.

However, the sandals are nice. That kind of sandal is very in this summer.

I am not quite a pensioner but already I am weary of people assigning their dodgy shoe and clothing choices to us and then throwing a strop when called out on it.

I don't mind frumpy - it's a word for clothes, not people.

Anyway the sandals: not quite my taste as I prefer them flatter, chunkier, with more foot coverage and I could without the jaunty colour. I think the white sole is a mistaken attempt to make them look more contemporary that will actually date them very quickly. But they're otherwise ok and I wouldn't notice if you wore them. You're welcome.

You see, I really couldn't care less when others use the term middle aged in a less than flattering way with connotations of dowdy frumpiness. Firstly, because at the age of 50 I am middle aged. And secondly, I know I don't dress frumpily and I'm not dowdy. Other people's assumptions simply don't bother me, especially when I know they're wrong Wink

ILoveShula · 02/07/2021 09:04

Well said @Floisme.
I'm not pensioner age but I dislike ageism.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 02/07/2021 09:15

and then throwing a strop when called out on it.

Have I thrown a strop? I don't think I have.

Absolutely.

I don’t agree. The same garment can look incredibly frumpy on someone with little or no style and very stylish on someone who knows how to style and accessorise it.

Imdoingitnow · 02/07/2021 11:33

In addition to the implicit and explicit ageism that is so accepted on mumsnet what perplexes me is why people can't decide what to wear independently without checking with a bunch of women.
Be bold,be brave, why not try it?
