Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:
Imissmoominmama · 26/06/2021 12:43

Ruining a nice outfit with a pair of clumpy sports trainers or an anorak

Guilty as charged. I have arthritis in my feet, and I’d rather sit outside than in at the moment, so I come prepared!

namcybotwinbloom · 26/06/2021 12:49

Tippex teeth, not heard them called that before.Smile

Where I live we call them Turkey teeth because that's where everyone seems to go to get them.

Backhills · 26/06/2021 12:49

I hate seeing women cold and uncomfortable or restricted in what they can actually do with their day, for the sake of their appearance. Bring on the trainers and the anorak Grin

PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 12:50

I’ll continue to judge as you cannot control my thoughts I’m afraid. As much as I know you’d like to 😉

You carry on. Wink

Paripale · 26/06/2021 12:50

I’m not big on logos or twee captions on T-shirt’s saying things like ‘Be kind’.

Patterned leggings (fish scales / snake skin/ leopard print) are pretty horrible.

Me too. There’s a TV advert for one of the airlines and it shows the cabin crew running through the airport and the women can’t run because of their heels. Same with kim Tate on emmerdale the other night- they had her in statement red heels for the imagery but she couldn’t walk properly in them. It looks utterly ridiculous.

@WaltzingBetty

Oh this has to be satire 🤣

Well considering MNHQ have deleted your discriminatory post it would seem that they don't think so @justanotherneighinparadise

You may also want to revise the definition of satire. It obviously doesn't mean what you think it means

What discriminatory post? I’m intrigued. What did I say?
PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 12:58

I'm guessing it's the one that was deleted. What did you say?

TheCovidHalfStone · 26/06/2021 12:58

I think it’s absolutely fab when people put the effort in to look glam! I also think people look great in sports/active wear at all sizes, whatever they’re planning to do in it. It would be so so boring if we all wore the same things for fear of being naff, or body shamed.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 12:59

@PurpleyBlue

I'm guessing it's the one that was deleted. What did you say?
Was it the superglue comment?
PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 13:01

I don't know it's been deleted.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 13:03

I’m going to guess @WaltzingBetty reported it as she seems somewhat gleeful 😄

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 26/06/2021 13:15

@Thewiseoneincognito

Trashy trout pout lip fillers 🤢

Michael Kors / DKNY bags

Fake Balmain Zara blazers in hideous colours

‘Saturday hair’ ie hair that’s usually scrapped up in the week but down/ blow dried on weekends showing how crap their cut/ colour is

Acrylic nails and nail art - gel is ok over natural nails

Slug eyebrows

Clumpy chunky trainers that make your feet look 5 sizes bigger

Cycling shorts or active wear on anyone who clearly doesn’t go to the gym

Fake High end jewellery

Clumpy, chunky trainers - that'll be me in my OC Cloudflyers, three sizes larger than my feet actually are to allow for the custom orthotics I need to stop my ankles and knees from dislocating and my hip from further excruciating and constant pain, then. Take away my clumpy trainers and their inserts and I'm not walking, jogging, plodding or going anywhere.

Clearly doesn't go to the gym - you mean fat bastards like me there. I go to the gym three times a week. I also go to physio appointments wearing them and haul my visually unappealing carcass around the Rec a couple of times at the weekend.

Last year when my average step count post Covid was 26 a day for five months (and I was pushing myself by deliberately using the upstairs toilet to get more steps in), I wore Active Wear because it was the easiest to get on without having to lie down for 45 minutes' rest after the effort of getting out of bed and getting dressed. Yesterday though, it reached 15,000 - I could do that because I have been wearing exactly those sorts of clothes and shoes.

Gleeful? Please do point out where I've been gleeful? I'll assume it's along the lines of where you accused me of being cunty but then declined to provide any examples. You seem to like throwing accusations and judgements around

Yes it was the post where you likened people with chronic arthritis to people accidentally supergluing themselves into their leggings as an excuse for wearing sportswear when not exercising.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 13:21

But you called other people cunty!?

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 13:22

Well that’s not true is it? I said they absolutely could have a health condition along with a quip about superglue. Not the same thing at all.

stobartstruck · 26/06/2021 13:24

@GoodbyePorpoiseSpit

Fake tan - never seen it done well
Apart from every single celebrity on the red carpet.

Ditto lip fillers.

Only badly done stuff looks bad.

DelphiniumBlue · 26/06/2021 13:26
  1. I prefer people to look natural, but on the other hand have worn makeup and dyed my hair for 40 years.
  2. I despise the term and concept of " mutton dressed as lamb" but have given up wearing short skirts because they don't look nice on me anymore. I prefer not to show off the less visually attractive parts of me, and don't wish to draw attention to the more wrinkly bits.
  3. I have bought various items from Primark over the years , and haven't noticed that their products last for less time than say, Boden. I've got Primark bags and T-shirts that are 10 years old. It's true that Primark do have a lot of unpleasant feeling polyester but they do also sell some nice natural fabric items. I think the demonising of Primark on MNi is pretty classist, actually. Especially now that everywhere sells nasty polyester, and an expensive price tag doesn't necessarily mean good quality or natural fabric.
  4. I really like flip flops, on me as well as everyone else. They have a hint of chilled surfer dude which can be quite appealing. What I can't bear is shoes without socks on men or women. I just think of the smell and discomfort of bare feet slipping around and rubbing against hard leather. Yuk.
WaltzingBetty · 26/06/2021 13:27

@justanotherneighinparadise

But you called other people cunty!?
No I said that women body-shaming women for not dressing according to judgemental standards of modesty was cunty behaviour You said Sweet heart you really are being quite the cunt yourself

Not sure why you called me sweetheart either tbh - I assume it's because you're attempting some passive aggressive double insult?

Note- I didn't report that as a personal attack - though I could, and i'm not the only poster to call you out on you unpleasant ableist language.

Honestly you do seem to be having memory/comprehension problems - maybe try re-reading the thread or making a note of what you write if you're struggling to keep up.

🤷‍♀️ take it up with MNHQ then
HappyWipings · 26/06/2021 13:28

For me it's anything cutesy or twee. I actually don't blame the wearer for this , as womenswear is awash with butterflies , frills and hearts. It can actually be tricky to find good quality basics that are not cutesy and childish if you're a woman. If you're on a budget it can be even harder to find a nicely fitting plain tee or hoodie. I do hope shops take note , as I suspect many of us are buying menswear as they're so sick of it all.

justanotherneighinparadise · 26/06/2021 13:29

Now that’s quite ableist I’m afraid. You have no idea about any hidden disabilities I might have that may impair my memory or processing skills.

But yeah if you think supergluing yourself into clothes is an equivalent 'excuse' for wearing comfortable clothes as a chronic health problem, and that joking about the two situations is funny then you are ableist

'My pet hate is a sensible black handbag that is clearly worn with every outfit, especially with an anorak.
Has it not occurred to you that some women can't afford to buy multiple handbags /other bags to ensure they have one which goes with every outfit? Or maybe they don't have room in their home to store multiple handbags?'

Or maybe they simply don't give a shit, can't be arsed to change bags and grabbed it off the peg as they flew out door in a hurry! Why do people care? Far too much time on alot of posters hands here! If people constantly change bags they are a Kardashian wannabe but if they have a sensible cross body bag no style etc, id love to see what alot of people on here wear daily Grin
