Thanks for the link, @CliffsofMohair. I didn't like Victoria's dress, I think the yellowy beige wasn't flattering. She didn't seem to have a bouquet? Interesting about the smell, @ajandjjmum!

She was wearing the Spencer tiara, but I didn't think her hair suited the look.

Just back and trying to catch up on all of the photos.

I'm not a fan of Kitty's dress, particularly the bra cups, it's too fussy for me. I do however love Frances Shand Kydd's dress in the link that was posted of the Spencer dresses.

The blue dress on Kitty is absolutely beautiful although I have to admit that on first glance I thought the pattern had a touch of 'Joules' about it - possibly not the look she was trying to achieve.

MotherofPearl · 26/07/2021 14:33

Gosh, in that first photo @Maireas has posted of Charles and Victoria's wedding, Charles looks exactly like William did when he was a bit younger! Uncanny.

The smelly fur dress sorts of matches my perception of Victoria Lockwood as a rather rackety sort!

AdaColeman · 26/07/2021 14:36

Victoria did have a bouquet, oriental lilies and peach & dark red roses, quite a large trailing shape, which she must have found too cumbersome, and soon abandoned.
Yes, amazing that they only knew each other for six weeks before they got engaged, definitely a MN red flag!

KillingMeDeftly · 26/07/2021 14:54

@AdaColeman and another red flag might be marrying a man older than your father!!

The Lady Anne Spencer who's in the Tatler article was Diana's aunt - her father's sister. She had a good innings as she only died last year, at nearly 100.

Maireas · 26/07/2021 15:06

Poor Victoria had her problems. Mind you, she produced four babies in four years, all healthy, good looking individuals! The other son who gave Kitty away was Sam from her second marriage. Spencer has fathered three more from his marriages.

OP posts:
KillingMeDeftly · 26/07/2021 15:26

I think she's spoken before about the pressure to produce a male heir, which was ridiculous even in the 90s as we knew by then that it was the man who determines the sex of a child. Her second son's father is, I think, called Jonathan Aitken but not that one!

KillingMeDeftly · 26/07/2021 15:28

I also read that at their wedding Charles made a speech about how he was advised to find someone who could stick with him through thick and thin and said something along the lines of "those of you who know Victoria know she's thick, and she certainly is thin". Nice!

Maireas · 26/07/2021 15:29

Yes! A different one. The same pressures faced by Frances Shand Kydd, and countless other women married to the landed gentry!

Lady Jane’s wedding has the feel of a bygone era about it.

The detailing on Frances Shand Kydd’s dress was beautiful.

Although loving the gloriously happy couple, I don’t massively love Alexandra’s dress. It feels a bit lacking shape or something.

Lady Jane's was only three years before Diana's, but it does look dated! I liked Alexandra Fellowes', a bit different.

We're filling up this thread, nearly time for a new one! Any suggestions for the new thread title? ( Still relying on Princess Tracy to do the link!)

Frances Shand Kidd 's wedding dress is beautiful. A little ott for my personal taste but a work of art.
Who designed it I wonder ?
Is it in Althorp now ?

I love Kitty's blue flower adorned dress.
The wedding seems to be a soft publicity stunt for D&G Sad

I thought Victoria Spencer's dress was stunning
There was an ethereal vibe to her in it.
Was it mink around the waist and cuffs ?
Hard to believe it would actually "stink"

I may have missed your comments on Earl Spencer's first wedding on a previous thread @ajandjjmum
Would you mind repeating them please?

Horsemad · 26/07/2021 17:46

I got married the same day as Charles & Victoria.

My marriage didn't last either!

Eaumyword · 26/07/2021 17:57

Everything I've read about Charles Spencer over the years doesn't paint him in a pleasant light...
I agree about Alexandra's dress. Such a beautiful woman, but the dress is a bit maternity wedding.

AdaColeman · 26/07/2021 18:09

LadyEloise Frances Roche’s wedding dress was designed by Norman Hartnell, that type of intricate embroidered embellishment was one of his design trademarks. She’s wearing the Fermoy tiara.

Maireas · 26/07/2021 18:12

Norman Hartnell! Like HM.

Leti out today at a mental health charity event. The dress is a repeat Massimo Dutti. It's lovely to see her without the mask! I really like this dress.

Sorry, more correctly it was a conference held at the Zarzuela Palace to discuss the impact of the pandemic on mental health.

Close up of the dress today, sorry, that last pic was at a previous outing. This time she's teamed it with espadrille wedges!

We don't see much of Princess Stephanie these days but here she is with all her children, presumably at a pyjama party!

Leti looks fab as usual.

Humble suggestion for the next thread title:

Leti loves a linear look but Maxima's mantra is more is more (with tiaras galore!)

I bet others will have better suggestions though!

Maireas · 26/07/2021 18:58

Love it, Eaumyword !

Those bridesmaid dresses at Lady Jane Spencer's wedding are something else. And not in a good way. 😂
