We need @SenecaFallsRedux to educate us!

paradyning · 11/07/2021 11:22

MrsFin · 11/07/2021 11:25
@MrsFin I mentioned red, white & blue in case she wanted her outfit in the Union Jack colours instead of just the England colours.
Though Kate will probably surprise us & wear a pink dress or some other colour
Why would she wear Union flag colours to an English football game? Hmm

paradyning · 11/07/2021 11:27

Hang on. They've still missed off the mystery old lady. Hmmmm

CliffsofMohair · 11/07/2021 11:28

Lovely picture of Sophie from a few days ago at Wimbledon.

Sophie and Princess Alexandra opening the Guide Dog centre in Bristol. Skirt by thread marmite Erdem.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 11/07/2021 11:30

White suit with a red go-faster stripe? Grin

KillingMeDeftly · 11/07/2021 11:37

Strange to think that apart from Prince Bernhard, all the foreign royalty are first or second cousins of the British. The two elderly princesses were sisters and granddaughters of Queen Victoria.

I've often surprised by the middle names of various royals - in this instance, Franklin!

KillingMeDeftly · 11/07/2021 11:38

Surely Kate saves the white suit for when the royals have a Saturday Night Fever-themed Christmas do?

TriSarahTops · 11/07/2021 11:38

I’d like to see her in something like this. She can always add a white jacket and wear her white shoes again.

Maireas · 11/07/2021 13:07

That's a really interesting article, paradyning. Georgie was quite a character. Marina put up with a lot. By coincidence, that nice picture CliffsofMohair posted of Sophie and Alexandra, just shows how elegant Alexandra still is, very like her mother.

Franklin Roosevelt was one of Prince Michael's godfathers. Roosevelt was also godfather to Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, King Wax's aunt.

Maireas · 11/07/2021 13:30

Duke of Kent speaking now about his Wimbledon role, it's really interesting.

@SenecaFallsRedux you're here!! Who is the old lady next to Marina please??

paradyning · 11/07/2021 13:31

Lovely pics from Wimbledon and of Princess A. Thanks.
Bea's dress is a great maternity style

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/07/2021 13:39

@paradyning I don't know who the woman is. I thought it might be Marina's mother, who was born Grand Duchess Elena of Russia, but I think the woman is too old for that.

paradyning · 11/07/2021 13:46

I wondered that too. She just looks so mountbatteny with the long equine nose

KillingMeDeftly · 11/07/2021 13:48

I would've suggested Queen Louise then but I think this woman is too old to be her. She might be another granddaughter of Queen Victoria?

SenecaFallsRedux · 11/07/2021 13:51

Good point. I think she is the Dowager Marchioness of Milford-Haven, formerly Princess Victoria of Hesse. She was one of Prince Michael's godparents. (Also by the way, Prince Philip's grandmother.)
KillingMeDeftly · 11/07/2021 13:55

Or Princess Marina's great-aunt? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuchessElisabethAlexandrineofMecklenburg-Schwerin

Maireas · 11/07/2021 14:02

Kate in pink Beulah today at Wimbledon. She's been listening to us about the shoes.
Will try to post a pic.

AdaColeman · 11/07/2021 14:15

@paradyning I also think that old lady is Princess Victoria of Hess and by Rhine. She was born in 1863 so would have been seventy-nine or eighty in 1942. There is a László portrait of Victoria painted in 1937, and she has that Mountbatten look!

Maireas · 11/07/2021 14:23

That's a good one, Chewy, I could only find one in the stands. Definitely a better shoe choice!

@SenecaFallsRedux you've got it! Thank you!
