What do you think of these sandals?

I’m late 30s and pregnant, so not interested in heels at the moment. However even before I got pregnant I felt my style had gone a bit boring and mumsy, so I’d like to buy some sandals for the summer that look nice.
I have a Hobbs voucher - what do people think of these?

@RickiTarr

I’m not looking forward to getting older and having to take all this ageist dribble personally.

Frumpy means dowdy. There is no age connotation to it.

That in itself is a pretty ageist comment. MN is so inherently ageist people don’t even realise they’re doing it.
stressbandit · 04/06/2021 12:48

So boring but my Nan would love them.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:48

What age does the frump kick in at @Blossomtoes in your opinion?

RickiTarr · 04/06/2021 12:51

My comment that I’m not looking forward to being in the target range for ageist remarks such as yours, makes ME the ageist? You tell yourself that.🙄

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 12:56

@JaneJeffer, I’m not sure whether you’re genuinely misunderstanding me or being provocative, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

You seem to think I’m saying being (that loathsome word) frumpy is something that afflicts all women. Given that there are many extremely stylish women of all ages, that’s clearly nonsense.

What I am saying is that many of the examples of frump on S&B are style choices associated with older women. Hence all the “I’ll never be old enough to wear that” comments. I really like S&B because I love clothes but it’s without doubt one of the most ageist sections of an ageist forum.

I misinterpreted what you said, for which I apologise. I am in the target range which is why I get annoyed by it.

And there we go again ...
BringMeTea · 04/06/2021 13:02

If the OP still cares, I like them. Classic simple style. Mind you. i loathe any glitz, frippery or sparkle on footwear.

Nightbear · 04/06/2021 13:04

The epitome of frumpy, to me, is the catalogues that used to come in the Sunday supplements. Clothes and shoes that tended to label themselves as ‘timeless’ when actually there was never a time they would have been considered well cut or flattering. Overpriced for synthetic and somehow managing to be too short, too long, too loose, too tight, too plain or too fussy to accidentally fall into acceptable. I thought they’d died out but someone linked to a site that is obviously the modern version a few weeks ago. Clothes where the only ‘design’ involved was to ensure that there was sufficient fabric to cover the requisite bits to ensure modesty - knee to cleavage. They never looked particularly comfy either.

I don’t think those sandals are frumpy.

savvy7 · 04/06/2021 13:05

I wouldn't buy them as they are slip on (which I find impractical).

I'm currently on the hunt for the perfect sandals.

The below were very nice and comfortable but returned as I wasn't so keen on the gold hardware (come in black and tan) but might suit if you are looking for something smarter:

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-josaphine-leather-woven-sandals/tan/p4857249

I also ordered the Seasalt Pine Track sandals as mentioned above. Very comfortable but a bit too much leather for me.

Am looking for something in between!

RickiTarr · 04/06/2021 13:07

Any chance we can all just agree to abandon the F word along with any age related jibes?

Taste varies and it isn’t generational like it used to be. Different people like different things and it’s hard to predict who will like what. Could we possibly be nicer to each other?

Yes please.
JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 13:09

Well you're right, I don't understand you @Blossomtoes. You said you only know two older women who are not frumpy. Two!

Iggi999 · 04/06/2021 13:11

I'm losing track of which posters are on which side now Grin
Anyway I am off to M&S and will no doubt return with something frumpy, though obviously that will not be my plan!

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 13:12

I'm on the side of justice for middle aged women @Iggi999 Grin

savvy7 · 04/06/2021 13:12

Can we just talk sandals?

NoviceGardenLady · 04/06/2021 13:17

Hate them with a passion, Boring, frumpy and really expensive.

Iggi999 · 04/06/2021 13:18

I much prefer the look of sandals without a strap at the back but can't cope with the toe clenching. I seem fine for relatively short distances but more than a five minute walk I need a strap, which does look more of a little girl style in my head (possibly another form of ageism there)

Iggi999 · 04/06/2021 13:19

I am impressed the OP could wear those though, the last summer I was pg my swollen feet could only fit into crocs Blush and very comfy they were too

BreakingtheIce · 04/06/2021 13:20

I don’t like them at all.

MaMelon · 04/06/2021 13:20

Can we just talk sandals?

Agree. It’s a pair of navy sandals fgs.

AllOptionsAreOnTheTable · 04/06/2021 13:27

I see ageism is alive and kicking on MN.

OP, White Stuff have loads of different styles of sandals, and they are generally really comfortable.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 04/06/2021 13:31

Looks like my Teva sandles are not favourites on here - apparently they're "fugly" 😂. I don't care. I like them and my feet stay comfy all day.

Nightbear · 04/06/2021 13:34

Fugly is on trend Grin

catfunk · 04/06/2021 13:36

No they look like something my mum would buy (she's 74)
