What do you think of these sandals?

I’m late 30s and pregnant, so not interested in heels at the moment. However even before I got pregnant I felt my style had gone a bit boring and mumsy, so I’d like to buy some sandals for the summer that look nice.
I have a Hobbs voucher - what do people think of these?

Do you think maybe you’re on the wrong thread @LaCerbiatta - your ageism is going down too well.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 04/06/2021 11:10

Deadly boring and not very comfortable for walking - sandals with no back encourage you to grip with your toes and make your feet ache.

Big chunky flat sandals are very fashionable at the minute. I would find a flatform pair you like.

Cam2020 · 04/06/2021 11:11

I like them.

I think Birkenstocks are hideous though 🤷🏻‍♀️

BusterGonad · 04/06/2021 11:29

They are a million times nicer than the Saltwater ones, I personally find the Saltwater ones really unflattering and pretty much like toddlers sandals. The Hobbs ones are classy but just a bit boring, I think a different colour other than black would jazz them up a little.

Totally agree with this. Saltwater sandals only look good on very very slim brown legs IMO and certainly on me look awful. And that’s without considering how uncomfortable they are.

Just to be clear, frumpy and old lady mean the same thing to you lacerbiatta?

To be fair, they mean the same thing to most people.

Oddbutnotodd · 04/06/2021 11:44

Well I’m over 60 and I wouldn’t wear them. No support and boring colour.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 11:44

A bit ageist and sexist there, lacerbiatta.

MumUndone · 04/06/2021 11:46

Frumpy

minipie · 04/06/2021 11:53

Like a PP I prefer the Orla style, or the Siena, from the Hobbs range.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 11:54

Ugh

Snoken · 04/06/2021 12:01

I have just ordered these: www.birkenstock.com/gb/lola-natural-leather/lola-pureleather-naturalleather-0-eva-w_3974.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwnueFBhChARIsAPu3YkQBn_SvmXQiyp9zGX8i6zQvg15085dA4wadL3ix-oJjnTSW7vOneIkaAiTBEALw_wcB. I haven't got them yet so I can't comment on how comfy they are, but they offer far more support for you feet.

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 12:01

OK - define (that horribly over used word) frumpy then. Tell me what it means.
DoingItMyself · 04/06/2021 12:06

I'm 63 and they're too old for me.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:23

Maybe you can come up with a definition without being ageist.

Maybe you could since you’re the one objecting to it being an ageist word. I know it’s ageist.
JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:31

You said it is interchangeable with old lady not me. I know plenty of old ladies who are far from frumpy.

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 12:32

I don’t. I know two at a push. Come on then, let’s have your non ageist definition.
JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:38

.

What do you think of these sandals?
MaMelon · 04/06/2021 12:40

I like them - I'd prefer a strap at the back though, they can be a bugger to keep on.

Blossomtoes · 04/06/2021 12:43

“If you want to be on your mum’s bad side, tell her she looks frumpy” isn’t ageist? OK. I rest my case.

JaneJeffer · 04/06/2021 12:44

It's Mumsnet!

RickiTarr · 04/06/2021 12:45

I’m not looking forward to getting older and having to take all this ageist dribble personally.

Frumpy means dowdy. There is no age connotation to it.

HeronLanyon · 04/06/2021 12:46

For me they look a bit stiff and formal. I would end up by with them much I think.
If I saw them on someone es. Wild literally think nothing. Fine unobtrusive. Not comment worthy. Not n negative way. Just nothing To notice.

HeronLanyon · 04/06/2021 12:47

Not wearing not ‘not by’.
