Women you think are ageing beautifully with no intervention

Hi,

So I was watching This Morning and Sharon Marshall was on and I was thinking she must be 50 now and looks absolutely incredible. Not that you can't look incredible at 50, whether you actually look 50 or 30!! This isn't age bashing ATALL, but I just thought how refreshing it was to see a woman looking so good, with no hint of the pillow face, which more and more women seem to be getting these days to fight off the wrinkles.

I'm not anti botox, fillers etc, but I do worry that so many women feel pressure to have this look, rather than daring to grow old/er naturally, because that's what we see as the norm.

Anyway, this isn't an anti anything thread, I just wondered who you thought was growing older particularly beautifully, naturally.

I think the problem is some Botox and fillers are done very subtly and you can’t necessarily tell who has had help or not. I was watching Tracy Ann Oberman in the Friday Night Dinner special and wondered whether she might have had her elevens done but I couldn’t say for sure either way. This is the worst scenario of all. At least if you can tell you know it’s not a fair contest.

Emanchego · 01/06/2021 13:21

Kathleen Hanna
Annie Mac

I saw something recently with Annette Bening, thought she looked great and fairly natural, although who can tell these days. I do find it annoying when people who have clearly had cosmetic surgery, face lifts etc, are proclaimed as being a naturally aging beauty. Recently saw mag with Felicity Kendall interview, some crap about 'my secret for looking great? sleep, drinking water or suchlike. Let's be honest, it is surely the cosmetic surgery!

Lottapianos · 01/06/2021 13:27

I think she looks like she's had quite a bit done. Tamsin Greig looked fairly untouched - forehead wrinkles as you would expect in a woman of her age

Donitta · 01/06/2021 13:31

I look decent for my age. I spend a lot of money to look this way though! Teeth whitening, hair dying, numerous expensive creams with retinol and peptides, laser skin treatments, and yes a tiny bit of Botox and filler in my problem areas. You wouldn’t know though. I’m hoping to have a tummy tuck when I can afford it and people probably won’t know I’ve had that done either.

CarolandDarryl · 01/06/2021 13:31

I was watching the Friends reunion and I thought In comparison to the others the two who have clearly had the least done to their face, Lisa Kudrow and Matt le Blanc looked by far the best. Matt is out there living his best life and giving no fucks and Lisa although I think has had some Botox still looked natural and not tight and puffy faced with cat eyes.

Marguerite2000 · 01/06/2021 13:34

Debbie Mcgee looks fantastic, imo. I have no idea if she's had any work done though.

Readyorknot · 01/06/2021 13:35

@CarolandDarryl totally agree. The others especially CC and JA looked weird.

The women I know who are ageing well arent wrinkle free. They are, however, slim/fit looking, and stylish

I agree, they looked by far the best and like themselves. It's jarring seeing overly-done faces, they don't really look younger, just odd. I think anything more than the tiniest tweaks - especially on older faces when you know they should look different - is really obvious.

In fairness, SM is attractive anyway. Good face, eyes, hair and looks well with the little extra weight. Not all women are so fortunate either in their natural looks or how they age. It's one thing aging without intervention if you're fortunate enough to look what society considers 'good' on it, but quite another if your aging face or body shape stops fitting the mainstream idea of attractive. So no, I don't find it refreshing that a woman can look good at 50 without intervention, as it's down to luck really. I find it more refreshing when women are happy with themselves and positive about other women, regardless of whether they have procedures or not.

Juno231 · 01/06/2021 14:12

I'm sure she's had work done but Gillian Anderson looks amazing nowadays in a natural, stylish way. Imo she's far more attractive now at 52 than in her X-files days.

Whosaidit · 01/06/2021 14:18

@Emanchego

Kathleen Hanna Annie Mac
I was surprised to see Annie Mac mentioned in a thread about aging as I thought she was about 30. Googled and she is 42, I am surprised!
AnneLovesGilbert · 01/06/2021 14:20

Tamsin Greig is the first woman to pop into my head on seeing this. She’s absolutely beautiful and so watchable.

Floisme · 01/06/2021 14:23

Are we really talking about women who look their age and look great? Or do we mean women who don't look their age?
If it's the first:
Vivienne Westwood
Margaret Howell
(They're also my two favourite designers)
Grace Coddington
Patti Smith

Lottapianos · 01/06/2021 14:24

Agree that Gillian Anderson looks gorgeous, and fairly natural

MadameQuaver · 01/06/2021 14:29

I think Jane Seymour looks amazing. She must be in her very late 60s now, if not early 70s. She may have had subtle work done, and probably has, but hasn't got the fake, cat eye look that many actresses her age have. She's got a really good figure, too!

GoingGently · 01/06/2021 14:31

Judi dench

Anordinarymum · 01/06/2021 14:31

I think most women you see in the media have had something done. It's the subtle changes that make the difference and not the maintenance that some women go in for which in itself is aging and unattractive

Eastie77 · 01/06/2021 14:36

I have no idea if she's had work done but the actress who plays Kathy in Eastenders looks very good. I saw a very old clip of her on EE classics and I think she looks younger now. I guess she is mid to late 60s.

MrsVeryTired · 01/06/2021 14:37

Julianne Moore, she was in The Sunday Times at the weekend and looks fab, age 60.

Motnight · 01/06/2021 14:43

Most of the above. Plus Dawn French, Kate Bush.

I read an interview with JS and she said she had work done around her eyes and a breast enlargement. She does look good though.
nordica · 01/06/2021 14:58

I've been watching old episodes of Silent Witness recently and Emilia Fox looks so much better now than she did back when she first joined the series in 2004. She's 47 this year so not exactly old but definitely looks better than her younger self.

Oneearringlost · 01/06/2021 14:59

She has had work done. Been quite honest about a thread lift some time back. She looks natural still though Smile
