Discontinued products. Oh, the heartache!

I wasted a very pleasant hour or so yesterday afternoon drowning in nostalgia on the 90s teem magazine thread that is in Classics - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/4178119-Early-Noughties-teen-mag-ridiculousness?pg=14.

That sent me down an Instagram wormhole on the @90steenmagazinearchiveuk page (well worth a look!)

I have recently had my world rocked by the realisation that my favourite By Terry lipstain has been discontinued, and that Crabtree & Evelyn no longer do the Jojoba Oil soaps that I loved.

However, this trawl through 90s fashion and beauty has made me ache for some of the products I lived in then.

I know it's been done before but I would give my (lengthening) eye-teeth for:

Impulse O2; Miss Selfridge nail varnish (scented or glow in the dark); Charlse Worthington thickening spray (it smelt amazing though did nothing for the thickness of my hair); BATH PEARLS; 40 million soaps shaped like various animals etc.

The thing I miss the most though is the huge range of body products that Boots Natural Collection used to do. My friends and I whiled away many hours milling around sniffing various body sprays, shower jels, bubble baths and God knows what else.

Seeing photos of the Boots catalogue Natural Collection pages from around 1996 was such a visceral hit of nostalgia it was akin to a punch in the stomach.

Am I alone?

Fendi original perfume, I loved it & it's been discontinued.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 19/05/2021 21:26

@ThatIsMyPotato

WineGetsMeThroughIt the original bottle is so much nicer
I know 😭 I hate the look of the new one too. The original smelled amazing. This new one doesn't last
ChrissyPlummer · 19/05/2021 21:27

@LadyMonicaBaddingham Revlon do a Black Cherry lipstick that is almost the same if that’s any help?

sqirrelfriends · 19/05/2021 21:30

@Hellvelyn

Very recent but Boots pink curl creme. Dirt cheap and makes my frizz actually curl nicely. Where has it gone? No one in Boots can answer my desperate questioning.
Allegedly they still sell it. They have a stock checker online, I checked my local store which apparently had stock but they didn't even have a place for it on the shelf Angry
MerryGoRoundBrain · 19/05/2021 21:34

Trouble by Boucheron. My favourite perfume ever. Discontinued in 2011. I was skint then so couldn’t stock up. I still miss it and haven’t found anything quite like it Sad

ArnottsUnderpass · 19/05/2021 21:37

The Gap perfumes. They were lovely.
I know they're still going but not here any more: Sephora make up is great. I used to love going in the shop here.
Ruby and Millie gel blush

blisstwins · 19/05/2021 21:47

I used to work in Laura AShley and miss perfume #1 so much.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 19/05/2021 21:51

Corn silk face powder, nothing else compares.

theluckiest · 19/05/2021 22:00

Bath pearls!!!!!I loved them too. Ages 11, I even stole one from the Body Shop and hid it in my pocket as I liked squishing it. When it invariably burst, I smelt like an old lady for weeks...karma.

I adored Body Shop Jojoba shampoo too. Really lovely and made my hair soft but not greasy.

And Impulse O2 is the scent of my teenage years. LOVED it. Although now I have teenage DSs, the smell of Lynx takes me right back. It often smells like the 90s in my house...

noblegreenk · 19/05/2021 22:01

@Darklane

No, not just you. There used to be so many great things now sadly gone. Ecusson perfume by Jean D’Albret, the Max Factor perfumes Electrique, Primitif & Hypnotique. All the Goya ones. Mary Quant make up ( my teenage years were the sixties) All the Boots Mediterranean skin care range Clinique cake eyeliner, Estee Lauder lipstick in Pink Champagne & Frosted Apricot in the old gold metal cases. Revlon chunky stick cream blushers, Coty & Yardley make up, Almay make up range......I could go on & on.
I loved the Boots Mediterranean range as well! I often yearn for the mint and vanilla body milk that came in a spray bottle. I loved the bergamot body butter too.
userxx · 19/05/2021 22:01

@2andahalfpints

Gliss shine spray and the body shop used to do a blue body spray, can't remember the name but it was something to do with water, always wish I could smell that smell again

I'm sure I saw gliss shine spray in The Range not that long ago.

I still miss citre shine shampoo 😞

noblegreenk · 19/05/2021 22:07

Boots 17 Fat Lash mascara was the best! I've always been a mascara snob but loved that mascara and it only cost £3.99. Never found another one that lives up to it.

I also adored No7 Triple Protection tinted moisturiser. Everyone used to ask me what I used because it gave decent coverage and made my skin all glowy and fresh. They replaced it something called City Light (or something similar sounding) and it's crap.

baldafrique · 19/05/2021 22:09

Belles de Ricci perfume Sad

Leonardsgirl · 19/05/2021 22:11

I'd forgotten all about Revlon Flex! I can conjure up the smell now just by thinking about it.

Those Lip glosses which were in a glass bottle with a roll-on top in strange flavours like cherry mint - were they Maybelline? I'm old so late 70s/early 80s

Years ago Woodleigh Green shampoo. Smelt of apples.

Eaumyword · 19/05/2021 22:18

I love these nostalgia threads!
My 80's favourite was Linco Beer shampoo in a little beer barrel bottle.
I loved Body Shop animal soaps, but I still think their fruity soaps smell the same and are fantastic quality for the price.

starfishmummy · 19/05/2021 22:21

So many.

The original Sanctuary Spa bath products, smelled lovely.

Body shop used to do small pencil sized roll on perfumed oils. I loved the original rose scented one.

Dop shampoo.

Mary Quant Make up, a particular boots eyeshadow which was green with gold flecks and my favourite shade of sludge green eyeshadow from Clinique.

Lovely little eye compacts from Chanel in the 90s - contained a matching eye shadow, a block eyeliner and "spit on it" block mascara. I had several colours.

commatose · 19/05/2021 22:22

Body Shop Roma perfume oil. It was so heady and gorgeous.

Ruby & Millie brushes were great - I've still got a couple going strong, and they must be well over 10 yrs old.

Aveda Madder Root colour conditioner.

ChrissyPlummer · 19/05/2021 22:29

Mary Quant eyeliner was the best I’ve ever used.

Boots Global Collection, another Boots collection; can’t remember the name but they had a body spray that smelled exactly like Cool Water. Another Boots one; had mint choc chip body scrub and a swirly strawberry and cream body cream.

Body Shop Dewberry & Fuzzy Peach.

Benefit Lemon Aid, Benefit Playstix.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 19/05/2021 22:35

New West for Her perfume by Aramis

Estee Lauder Sugar Honey lipstick

Laura Mercier Just Lips lipstick

Marmaladecake · 19/05/2021 22:36

For the Impulse O2 lovers here's my last ever can.
I'm 46 and have carried it through several house moves. Every year or two I spray a bit and am transported straight back to the school bus 😄

Discontinued products.  Oh, the heartache!
Gaaaahhhhhhhh · 19/05/2021 22:36

Another one for the Vidal Sassoon range in the brown bottles. Smelled like almonds. Lovely.

PurplePosies · 19/05/2021 22:38

Linco Beer, I can smell that now, amazing!

Cremolia on the other hand (no pun intended!) stank, my mum had some and it made me nauseous!

I absolutely loved the bright red Paloma Picasso lipstick that was around in the late 80s/early 90s. Looked it up recently and found it on ebay for $400 listed as 'vintage' Confused - I snogged lots of boys wearing that and don't feel vintage at all Grin

Mogloveseggs · 19/05/2021 22:39

@ThatIsMyPotato

Oh that sunflower spray from the natural collection. I miss it.
Oh I had the dry oil spray-gorgeous!
Time40 · 19/05/2021 22:47

Amami setting lotion. Nothing else is as good for doing vintage styles.

::weeps::

tuttifuckinfruity · 19/05/2021 22:47

Oh yes, Impulse o2 - I often wonder why they don't bring this back?? Even as a limited edition. It would fly off the shelves.

Grass, one of the GAP perfumes that smelled like cut grass. Again, surprised no one else has attempted this (think the others were Rain, Dream and something else?)

Late 90s I had an M+S perfume that was tea flavoured - it was so much nicer than it sounds!!!! They had various ones, I can't remember which one I loved (they had green tea, earl grey etc). There is another tea perfume (Elizabeth Arden I think) but it does nothing for me at all.

Also very fond memories of late 90s Rimmel range which came with stickers saying things like "R U READY?" etc. Different coloured mascaras and matching eyeliner. I liked "jungle green"

Oh, and the lip balms in Body Shop HaloHaloHalo I spent many a Saturday poring over them with friends. I loved the purple one (dewberry I think?) and also tangerine. Wore it over my heavily lined lips - no lipstick, just a liberal outer lining with their lip liner in "beech" 😍
