Do people moisturise their whole body after every bath/shower?

Or how often? And if so, with what? Have you any good everyday recommendations that are not too expensive, as I assume it takes a lot of product??
I have got very lazy with lockdown and don't think I have moisturised my whole body in over a year ...

Yes - it only takes about 2 mins , if that, to put abit of lotion on. I love the smell on my skin.
I alternate between my fave one from Lush and a Nivea one. I use a body oil a couple of times a week too.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/05/2021 23:48

Yes. I use Aveeno. Amazing stuff.

Lookingoutside · 17/05/2021 00:37

Every time with Oil in Cream body butter from Beauty Pie. It’s part of the super healthy skin range and is the best body cream I’ve ever used.

sugarlost · 17/05/2021 06:03

Many people cream their face to help maintain youthful skin. I think people without dry skin probably do the same to their body for the same reason.

I also think if you were taught from a young age to cream your body you probably continue as an adult as it becomes routine.

I understand people who don't cream as they may not like the feeling of their skin afterwards.

midnightstar66 · 17/05/2021 06:31

No, but I should as my skin gets dry. Like you I've neglected myself a bit over lockdown and especially winter. I'll likely start doing so regularly when it warms up and skin is more on show.

midnightstar66 · 17/05/2021 06:54

I use the bio oil gel when I do remember/bother. It's very rich but even that is so-called up by my skin like a sponge and no greasiness so I definitely need to. Without it I get the visible dust as described above and my lower legs have a visible white layer. My skin is always at its nicest on holiday where I am sun creaming and after sunning. Actually thanks for this thread as it's prompted me to start before the shorts are needed instead of waiting and being embarrassed for the first few days

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 17/05/2021 07:01

No, but then I only have a bath (don't own a shower) twice a week max, so I guess my own skin grease is doing the moisturising.

Face the same, doesn't seem to need moisturising, though that does get washed with plain warm water every day so maybe the nose grease is just getting spread around. I look young for my age (mid-thirties) and don't suffer with spots (unless I put moisturiser on my face).

Amdone123 · 17/05/2021 07:19

I do. After my morning shower and my evening bath. Only my arms and legs, other areas if I can summon the energy to get to them. I have good skin.
When I have a bath, I put the body lotion ( sealed), in the bath with me. When I get out and am drying myself, it's easy to do because it's there, I have to pick it up and the heat has made it easier to apply. If I went straight to my pjs in the bedroom to moisturise, I probably wouldn't bother. I've always done this.
I like to do my feet regularly, too. In Summer, everyone says how nice they look. It doesn't take long really ( though I appreciate it's a faff if you're busy), and I sleep in those sock things with built in moisturiser.
I especially love doing this on holiday as I have more time.

I have very dry skin, and I have to say the best thing I’ve done for my skin is to stop have a daily shower. I wash the essentials every morning obviously, but I no longer moisturise on a regular basis.

I realised that the beauty industry wants us to shower every day so we can replace our own natural oils with man made ones.

It’s also good for the environment not running a shower everyday either, and means you spend less on electricity and water bills.

FrankensteinIsTheMonster · 17/05/2021 07:35

Fucket yup, the old tits-pits-n-bits Grin

Maassi · 17/05/2021 08:18

As a dark skinned woman, I have to oil my skin daily because it needs it. Regardless of if I am showering or not I will use a combination of natural coconut, sunflower and wheatgerm oil that I've mixed and keep in a bottle in bathroom. Keeps my skin non-ashy, flawless and soft. Without it, I'd look grey and dry.

mermaidsariel · 18/05/2021 13:27
@mermaidsariel Why would you use coconut oil as a moisturizer when there are so many nicely formulated products available in different textures (lotions, gels, butters, yogurts even, balms, sprays, serums etc)? Coconut oil can be pore clogging. It solidifies at room temperature so if your scoop it out of the jar and rub it on your skin it will just melt on contact and turn into oil.
Because it’s not full of chemicals . I have very sensitive skin.

RampantIvy · 18/05/2021 15:28

Just been and bought a bottle of Vaseline Intensive Care lotion today Grin

Serpenta · 18/05/2021 15:36

I do these days and my skin really feels the better for it. I like to give myself a daily going over with a salux cloth in the shower too to keep everything smooth.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 18/05/2021 15:37

When I was much, much younger I did use a moisturiser on the tops of my arms, might have been Palmers. But nothing since as I can't bear the sticky feeling, same as shower gel. However, I don't have dry skin. I didn't realise it was common thing.

Vursayles · 18/05/2021 16:15

@Maassi

“Regardless of if I am showering or not I will use a combination of natural coconut, sunflower and wheatgerm oil that I've mixed and keep in a bottle in bathroom. “

That sounds like a really lovely combination which would be excellent for the skin.

RampantIvy · 18/05/2021 16:29

I haven't come across a salux cloth before. Are the similar to the Korean towels?

SimonJT · 18/05/2021 16:32

Yes, I’m dark skinned so if I don’t moisturise I look a little ashy.

Serpenta · 18/05/2021 16:33

Yeah, they're like Korean towels except they're long strips of cloth, so you can give your back a good wash too. I find the Korean mitts too teeny for my paws!
AppleSouffle · 18/05/2021 18:01

Just out of interest, do all your DHs and DSs moisturise their body after each shower? If not, do they get dry itchy skin? Or is this another female time and money trap?

adrianmolesmole · 18/05/2021 18:07

Yes I do, I have very dry skin with a tendency to eczema, so moisturising religiously keeps it at bay! I like Vaseline cocoa radiant but Tescos cheapie aloe vera one is good too. Or any old one really.

DS1 yes. DS2 no as he has DH's more oily skin and doesn't need to.
Pyewackect · 18/05/2021 18:10

Nope, don’t have time and can’t be arsed.

isthismylifenow · 18/05/2021 18:23

I usually do but haven't recently and my skin is so dry. I have so much lotion, it just appears. I have a bottle in the shower and once I've turned off the water I apply lotion all over while my skin is still wet. Then I just chuck on a gown and it soaks in while I get on with other stuff. I used to use the nivea in shower cream, but I couldn't find it anymore so just thought to use up lotions that I have in the same way.

adrianmolesmole · 18/05/2021 18:42

The more you moisturise the more the body learns not to produce its own sebum

Not necessarily true. It depends on your skin type. Dry skin is a "type" of it's own and needs moisturising. It doesn't produce enough sebum by itself. Ever since I was young I've had very dry skin and my childhood was blighted with eczema (the really, really bad kind) and I had use all sorts of horrible thick ointments from the docs which irritated it worse. I didn't bath every day then (blame my mum) and my skin was inflamed, cracked, bleeding etc, no amount of thick creams was helping the dryness. In my late teens I took matters into my own hands and showered every day and used vaseline intensive care afterwards. I don't know why I used it, perhaps it was instinct but I realised that a simple wash and moisturising routine was needed daily to keep it under control. It helped greatly and I still do it today. My skin is good now and I can maybe stretch to 2 days without lotion but not more than that without feeling itchy. I get scared and slather it all on again!
