Do people moisturise their whole body after every bath/shower?

Or how often? And if so, with what? Have you any good everyday recommendations that are not too expensive, as I assume it takes a lot of product??
I have got very lazy with lockdown and don't think I have moisturised my whole body in over a year ...

I moisturise my arms and legs as they get very itchy if I dont. I do my neck and chest with my facial skincare.

My stomach doesnt really need done but my back gets very itchy. I cant reach it so get my husband to do that sometimes

SallyCinnabon · 15/05/2021 08:57

Yes because I have extremely dry skin (it soaks up the first layer so I have to apply two) Dry skin wrinkles more so I do it religiously. Cocoa butter for me, the big pump one. Smells so good too 👍🏻

Vursayles · 15/05/2021 09:29

After most yes, because the water here is hard and very drying on the skin. I don’t use anything expensive, just whatever’s lying around. I’d say it makes a difference and isn’t too much trouble.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 15/05/2021 09:31

@FeistySheep

No. Skin makes sebum - it moisturises itself. I use gentle soap, not shower gel etc, so the shower doesn't strip my skin of moisture.
Not enough if, as in my case, you have Asian skin. I would turn into a crocodile in this climate without moisturiser!
AuntieMarys · 15/05/2021 09:33

I do. Takes about 1 minute ( and I'm 6 feet tall) I use a Nivea one in a white bottle

Vursayles · 15/05/2021 09:42

Oh also forgot to say natural, gentle soap is so much less drying than (most) shower gels. I even tried a special bioderma sensitive oil shower gel but it’s so strongly scented, and I’ve found the soap far better.

Some bits of the body (arms, legs, back) don’t really need soaped and washed at every shower as they will just dry out.

notacooldad · 15/05/2021 11:18

I moisurize most but not necessarily all of my skin after washing. My shins get very dry so they get moisturised and if there's enough cream on my hands I'll wipe it off on my claves!
My face, neck and chest also get done.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 15/05/2021 12:40

@KizzyWayfarer

Surely you only need to moisturise your entire body daily if you have unusually dry skin? Otherwise the natural oils it produces do the job. I’ll admit here I know nothing about skin care if you’re not white and it might be different! But otherwise it feels like another unnecessary product sold to women to spend time and money to ‘fix’ their bodies/appearance. I don’t think anyone would be suggesting teenage boys learn to do it as part of self care.
Why not? Not all teenage boys are white and those that aren't don't seem to have a problem with the concept.

At one place, I took a textiles lesson each week that was entirely Y8 boys and they'd talk normally about things like skin and haircare whilst working - if my skin was particularly dry on my hands thanks to the Psoriasis, I'd often get asked 'Miss, do you want some of my handcream?' - and they would bring things up like why others hadn't been taught to look after their skin or shower.

I use Diplobase cream. I love it and it lasts.

Yes, every time. I use an Aveeno body lotion then Cerave smoothing cream on my legs.

time4anothername · 15/05/2021 13:53

i used to until I started to read all the ingredients and wonder why I was massaging chemicals into the largest organ of my body - especially paraffin based ones that are the cheap remains of the refining process.

lonel · 15/05/2021 13:53

I use baby oil on my legs as soon as I get out the shower and then a few minutes later, I put on Cerave moisturizing lotion too! Like others have said, without it my skin is just dry and itchy all day.

RampantIvy · 15/05/2021 13:58

I really struggle with rich moisturisers and any kind of oils as they just sit on my skin like an oil slick and don't get absorbed. Maybe I just don't need them.

Like FeistySheep and Vursayles I use gentle soap, and not everywhere all the time. I also agree that shower gels aren't that good for the skin. Maybe that is why my skin isn't dry?

Are Soap and Glory and Vaseline Intensive Care lotions light and easily absorbed?

Oly4 · 15/05/2021 14:01

No but when I do I love body shop body butter

Vursayles · 15/05/2021 14:04

Does anyone use solid body moisturiser? Lush do them I know, but I don’t shop there so am looking for alternatives. Would be great to do away with all the plastic bottles.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 15/05/2021 14:12

@keeponkeepinon

Those who like the vasdline intensive care, which one is best for moisturisation and scent? Dh is out and I'm going to ask him to pick me one up! I have very dry skin (kp) and I'd like a fresh summery scent, I opened another thread asking about a discontinued boots lotion called daisy chain. It was cool and fresh.
The one in the yellow bottle or cocoa butter one are nice

I use body shop Shea butter one and it’s nice in winter and then in summer swap to intensive care one
Vursayles · 15/05/2021 14:24

Thanks I’ll have a look!

briarsandbrambles · 15/05/2021 14:38

Absolutely not aside from hand cream. Your skin needs to breathe. Only I mIght use is some magnesium soil on my shoulder and knees (achey) but that's it.

I'm not a Salamander, so don't need to rely upon cutaneous respiration. The plaque build up if I didn't moisturise, never mind the clouds of silvery dust like a bruised moth that I leave in my wake, would ensure that the maximum 1-2% humans are capable of is utterly impossible.
ButtercupSquash · 15/05/2021 15:13

Good God! No!
Hands and lips yes because otherwise they develop cracks in the skin, and legs after shaving if they are going to be visible.
Do you really get dry skin in places covered by clothes all the time?

BabyPigeon · 15/05/2021 15:21

@NeverDropYourMoonCup The salamander comment made me chuckle. Grin
The "skin having to breathe" saying is used so often. Together with the hair or skin getting used to stuff/products.
There are some ingredients with the potential to clog pores (the much loved coconut oil being one of them) but that's a different topic.

BigWoollyJumpers · 15/05/2021 15:22

Harldy ever, but we have a water softener, so it makes a big difference to how your skin feels when you get out of the shower.

OverByYer · 15/05/2021 15:25

Probably a few times a week but mainly lower legs , arms and chest. Use whatever body butter is on offer or if I’m feeling luxurious I use L’Occitaine almond body oil which smells divine
