Do people moisturise their whole body after every bath/shower?

Or how often? And if so, with what? Have you any good everyday recommendations that are not too expensive, as I assume it takes a lot of product??
I have got very lazy with lockdown and don't think I have moisturised my whole body in over a year ...

I have to. And the ony thing that doesn't annoy my skin is cerave! I have to use the SABcrwam in everything but my legs. If I miss so much as a day then I end up covered in badly dry skin with arms covered in what can only be described as psoriasis like whelts!

I've tried everything going and it's the only thing that works for me. I have to be ridiculously careful with shower gels as well!

muffb · 14/05/2021 21:59

I get really dry skin on my neck, stomach and ankles so try to moisturise them after every shower. My whole body not so often maybe once every two weeks. I do fake tan sometimes too so take moisturising a bit more seriously when I do. I just use soap and glory for moisturiser- it's a big tub and not expensive from what I remember, I also like their hand cream.

TidyOmlette · 14/05/2021 22:00

Pretty much everywhere yes and I use palmers coco butter and never had dry skin thankfully

mermaidsariel · 14/05/2021 22:10

Those who towel off oil and lotion, does this meanYou have to wash towels every day?!
For those who use coconut oil, do you use it solid or melt it first? Isn’t that a faff and messy?

MrsMigginsPie · 14/05/2021 22:11

Moisturise after every shower otherwise arms and legs get really itchy. Not sure I’d bother if it wasn’t for that. No particular favourite cream - just whatever takes my fancy and smells nice!

CaurnieBred · 14/05/2021 22:12

Yep. Yellow Vaseline Intensive Care. Also make sure shower gel is soap free (like NIVEA Shower Cream Gel, Rich Moisture Sensitive).

I get really itchy if I don't

BabyPigeon · 14/05/2021 22:23

For very dry/itchy skin I love and recommend SVR Xerial 10 lait corps for very dry skin, also Eucerin 10% urea lotion and Eucerin aguaphor spray for body.
For keratosis pilaris I like Ameliorate transforming body cream, also the lotion from the same range, which is lighter. These are all best to be used at night. Ameliorate intensive hand therapy and foot therapy are also very useful for dry hands and very dry feet (also to be used at night).
For sun spots and aging especially in the cleavage area Skin Smoothing Retinol Body Treatment from Paula's Choice is great, but I think any lotion with retinol would help (mind to use sun protection as it makes the skin more sun sensitive, this also applies to the Ameliorate range, it has chemical exfoliants)
The key is consistence, moisturising every night and using sun protection on exposed skin during the day leads to nice soft and comfortable skin (knees and elbows included).
I think skin on the body is as important as the skin on the face, even if it's not as exposed to the elements it still needs care.

I use E45 daily spray on arms, legs and "decolletage". They look marvellous. Should have used it on my face!

Reinventinganna · 14/05/2021 22:24

La Mer every day after a shower. I pay particular attention to my knees and elbows.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 14/05/2021 22:27

No, even though I have dry skin. I only moisturise my face every few days.

Eaumyword · 14/05/2021 22:30

Yes. I shower in the morning and have a bath 3/4 evenings a week as well so I like to keep moisturised.
I use Body Shop White Musk or Moringa moisturiser to smell nice in the day and Avon cheap lavender or cocoa body lotion at night .

Kokosrieksts · 14/05/2021 22:33

I don’t use anything after a shower. I really dislike that greasy layer on skin feeling and want to wash it off straight away Grin

AnnaMagnani · 14/05/2021 22:34

No, giving up shower gel cured my ezcema. I don't even have dry skin anymore.

Soap is the answer.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 14/05/2021 22:36

@Handsnotwands

This is genuinely news to me. I had no idea people did this. Why did no one tell me? And when should I tell my daughter?
I learned from my friends at school - in a very diverse area - once I got to 14/15, they'd drag me into little beauty shops on the way home from school and pick things out that they thought would work on my skin and hair and tell me what their Mum/Auntie recommended. My mother didn't believe in anything like moisturiser, hair removal, washing your hair regularly, washing more than once a week or using skincare including suncream, so I'd get all manner of sarcastic and racist comments about what I smelled like, putting all that 'muck' on my skin.

I'd think that around 11 would be a good time to start if you haven't already, as pre teen skin and hair turns into teenage skin and hair almost overnight. It's something we've been discussing at work in terms of adding it to the PSHEE curriculum, as whilst there are some kids who do know, it's clear that many haven't been exposed to any notion of caring for themselves.

HibouMilou · 14/05/2021 22:41

I have a bath every day, but never moisturise my skin except my face.

I’ve got very sensitive skin and products tend to irritate it/make it itchy.

SionnachGlic · 14/05/2021 22:42

No...not unless my skin feels dry or during summer when I've been bare skinned in the sun...Clarins Moisture Milk. In winter I sometimes use moisturising bath capsules/ bombs ...they have a little oil in them. The bath needs a right scrub after though as the oil leaves it a bit greasy.

sunshineandshowers40 · 14/05/2021 22:45

Every single time.

BeaLola · 14/05/2021 22:46

"Having a bath and shower was h day I'd probably why you gave dry skin "

  • I disagree - I gave always had incredibly dry skin - commented on by my GP when I was a child . When I was at school &at home I probably had 1 bath a week and 1-2 showers -my skin was very much worse

Whilst my base is very dry the care I give it means my skin looks good. Its part of my routine and I unwinding the evening and enjoy the ritual of smoothing the oil it cream in . A bit like I enjoy cleansing my face when I get home and massaging facial oil in or relaxing with a space mask

dudsville · 14/05/2021 22:53

I used to, when I was young and having sex. I always used to get compliments on my soft skin. I stopped about 8 years ago. Over the past year, perhaps as a result of having more time on my hands, I've started noticing dry skin and moisturising all over again. This thread has reminded me of shower oils. I'm off to have a look!

DramaAlpaca · 14/05/2021 22:54

No, I don't need to.

luxurychocolate · 14/05/2021 23:01

Not anything like as much as I should.

I've got some lovely Laura Mercier body butter. Leave my skin in amazing condition. And smells lovely. V rich though. Not sure I could use it daily.

Panpastels · 14/05/2021 23:05

I pour a bit of baby oil in my bath. That does the job. Just leaves it a bit slippery for the next user 🤣

TheDaydreamBelievers · 14/05/2021 23:06

Aveeno on upper arms and lower legs (my dry bits)

longtompot · 14/05/2021 23:07

I have to otherwise it gets really tight and itchy. I have eczema on some areas anyway so have sensitive and dry skin all over. I so wish I could just have a shower, dry off and get dressed and use body lotion because I felt like it, not needed it.

QueenPaw · 14/05/2021 23:07

@Panpastels I did that once. Being a teenager then, I didn't rinse the bath. You should have heard the roar from my dad as he skidded and brought the shower curtain down BlushGrin
