@petitdonkey

I think it will be gorgeous on you OP! Do you follow Emily Jane Johnston on Instagram? She’s a size 18 and always looks fabulous- she had that dress on her stories this week and it looked stunning!
Ooh she's fabulous!

The most recent post - floral dress is actually already in my Zara basket 😂

Being able to shop in mainstream shops is AMAZING Star

@Clymene

You look amazing king! And I don't know if this is weird but you have really lovely hands
Oh god, that's done it BlushSad

They are so my mom's hands.

I just wish she could have been here to see the new not quite but getting there slimline me

I started off thinking it was frumpy... but I like it. Definitely boots either ankle or long. Bit of a heel . Lot of 70 s stuff around at the mo.

The original dress you linked is lovely and more than suitable for the fancy hotel that rhymes with tits. They have some rules re ties, shorts etc but believe me they are not policing every dress that crosses the threshold. This is YOUR occasion and the hotel (A friend is a deputy manager) is really conscious of that; they will not judge and neither will fellow guests. Wear what you love and feel happy in.

GoddessKali · 13/05/2021 21:58

If wear that dress to the Ritz! Please please don’t be put off, honestly no one cares what you’re wearing (other than you) and certainly no one will be looking assessing if you’re dressed up enough.

There will be all types there from super formal to casual.
So the most important thing is to smile, be proud and confident of who you are and enjoy what you’re wearing. What a lovely daughter you must have :)

Thewiseoneincognito · 13/05/2021 21:58

Do not dress down at The Ritz, you will be frowned upon as it is only those who ignore the dress code that wear jeans and trainers.

You will have a fabulous time, it’s the best place for people watching. They have a glorious private terrace at the back of the hotel that I’ve spent many an afternoon sipping cocktails in, I believe they have started to officially use this as a dining area now though?

Enjoy!

Oh my god, I really need glasses I think. I read that thread title as if it were a V-themed fancy dress afternoon. Anyone remember that TV series from the 80s? (I think there may have been a more recent rehash)

My mind was flitting all over the place wondering what the hell your'e supposed to wear to one of those, and thinking what a niche theme it is for a fancy dress party.

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 21:59

@Clymene she'd have been so proud.

And it's her suggestion re the outing - DD listened to her tales of a wonderful afternoon there years ago when DD1 was a young teen, and secretly made her a promise that she'd take me with her first month's salary.

And here we are.

It's exceedingly bittersweet.

I’ve just read the full thread looking for a pic of you in it and can’t find it! Love the dress and all of the accessories you have posted though, you have lovely taste x

NaiceAftTea · 13/05/2021 22:02

@Firsttimecatlady

I’ve tea-ed at the Ritz, and that dress is perfect Smile Also- you sound absolutely bloody lovely from your responses- smart, funny, a real pleasure to read your comments! I’m aware how weird that sounds, but as people on MN are quick to point out the opposite in other posts, I though I’d just say. You sound ace. And I’m nicking “oh crepes”. I’m more of a fuckington bollocks girl, but I always like to add to my lexicon Wink
Oh gulp, aren't you an utter dote?

That's really kind.

Thank you.

As mentioned up there self confidence/esreem/ worth are in strong in this one, your words mean a lot Thanks

To me, a maxi dress is not appropriate for a posh tea. Google tea dresses and you will find much more appropriate wear. The dress you posted is lovely for say, watching cricket on the green, but not the hotel-rhymes-with-tits.

Reinventinganna · 13/05/2021 22:06

Agree with @Firsttimecatlady you sound like you would be a fabulous friend. Be kinder to yourself.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/05/2021 22:07

You have an amazing figure! You look v glam, I'm imaging Kirsty Alsopp behind the strawberry Smile, I love her, so stylish.

Seeing that trainers aren't allowed I'd go with tan sandals of some kind. Remember it can be quite hot in June, boots are probably not going to work.

And @oober has some GREAT styling suggestions. All her options would be lovely +++

Enjoy and happy birthday! 🍓

SwimmingOnEggshells · 13/05/2021 22:09

Dote? I love the word dote @NaiceAftTea 🇮🇪

Looking good OP!

And you have also raised a belter of a daughter.

And inspired my new username. I actually hate the word "tits", but I'm making an exception here as I've laughed every time I've read it.

It's a lovely and appropriate Boden dress - I think you will look and very importantly feel super wearing it.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/05/2021 22:14

@TedImgoingmad My sidebar for active reads, "Is this dress suitable dress for a V Fan". I was hoping OP was going for a massive 80s perm, skin tight red jumpsuit, and a bit of lizard skin on show.

Nice to know I wasn't the only lunatic. Grin

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/05/2021 22:15

By the way, I love "tea at the Titz", too. I want to say "Tea at the Titz - it's the dog's bollocks" for some reason.

1frenchfoodie · 13/05/2021 22:17

Your DD sounds like a dream. And I dont hear dote enough. Have a fab time. You have great style from what you linked. Feel confident in it.

Arrierttyclock · 13/05/2021 22:17

Love it! Perfect for AT at the Tits!

RoseDelatour · 13/05/2021 22:18

It’s quite a casual look. Maybe more bbq, rather than afternoon tea

Graffitiqueen · 13/05/2021 22:18

The dress is gorgeous on you! It'll be absolutely perfect for an afternoon tea.
