Sorry to hear your sad news @SmaugMum.

Thanks for that video link @ToastCosILoveIt. That was very useful about the trousers. Is anyone wearing Gabis in summer? I’ve set them aside for cooler days.

Disappointing @AuldFox about the shops. Hope they’ve pulled themselves together by the time I maybe make it to one in December.

Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 08:15

Good to see you back Smaugmum , but
sorry to hear about your father..

Regarding 'unfulfilled' items , I tried to cancel the brushstroke dress orde fromToast ,on Friday morning after John Lewis on arrived and was price matched , bur they said it was too late as had been packed and was being sent .. ok fair enough.. But Saturday it was still showing as unfulfilled and still is today,! That was an order made last Wednesday... they certainly are taking their time...I would be tempted to order the plum cardigan, but we are going away at the end of the week and I don't think that it would arrive before we go
Bring back the old Toast!!

@Laska2Meryls, I ordered two parcels on Wednesday: the smaller one - a jumper and a scarf - has just arrived with the postman. I am assuming the larger one will come later via the post office van as too big for the postman to carry. Both orders are still showing as unfilfilled on my website account page.

The smaller parcel had the Fair Isle Yoke Sweater in it: I haven't tried it on yet but it looks good and just right for this dreadful weather we are having.

@AuldFox, i have been to two Toast shops in the last couple of months (Hampstead and Marylebone) and was shocked by how much of the recent stock they weren't holding at all and also at the lack of sizing - lots of 8s and 10s only. Someone sugested that coming out of lockdown they were holding old stock that had been in the shop since Christmas and were waiting to shift this but it seems the problem is continuing. This isn't good for loyal and regular Toast customers who go into the shop having seen lots on line and wanting to try it all on, either to buy some there and then or to mentally save for the sale.

I tried the Painterly Drape dress on a couple of months ago and liked it but decided to wait for the sale. I have a wedding later this week and have ordered it as a possible for that but have sized down to a 10 as it was fairly generous - hope I haven't sized myself out of it...

AuldFox · 21/06/2021 09:20

@ToastCosILoveIt I went to Notting hill and Chelsea, looks like I chose the wrong ones as neither had size 8/10 in much stock at all! It was so disappointing as I went to buy a full price jumpsuit (as well as sale items) and all they could do was point me online.

I really don’t want the faff of online returns when I live in London and can get to a shop. I also wanted to try on the Amalfi dress and the vine print dress and they didn’t have any of them at all. They almost had more toast circle items than new stock. Bizarre.

Anyway I would usually order 10-15 items in the sale and keep a high percentage of them but not anymore. I’ve ordered one of the bleu de chauffe bags as a consolation prize and that’s my sale shopping done Confused

AuldFox · 21/06/2021 09:22

I was actually planning to ask here if anyone wanted me to take measurements for any pieces they were unsure of ordering online because of sizing (I took a measuring tape with me). I would’ve come back having failed abysmally!

ToastCosILoveIt · 21/06/2021 09:48

@AuldFox, it is so disappointing isn't it.

Update on my order: the Brushstroke Print Drape dress in a 10 looks good and very flattering. It has a nice shape around the neck and shoulders. i am a busty size 12 on the high street so size down.

The Mila Meadow Print Dress in a 10 fits well: the 12 would have swamped me. I know this style of dress is marmite but I love the style and have almost all of Toast's other iterations of it in past seasons.

The Check Cotton Linen Trousers in navy in a 12 are huge (this is the size recommended by Toast) and I would need to size down to a 10. Lovely and lightweight thoguh and what looks like a good shape.

The Broken Check Cotton Shirt in a 10 is lovely and fits well: very light weight but good with jeans or smarter trousers for the office.

The Fine Stripe Cotton Shirt Dress is lovely and I defintely needed a 10 and not a 12 which would have been to big. Fits well on the bust and plenty of room on the hips without being too big. I like the slightly bigger collar which gives it a modern feel.

The Pin Check Cotton PJs in Okra in a medium are big and i could probably have sized down to a small but i like roomy PJs as i toss and turn. Thje Okra is a deep but vivid yellow, very unusual.

The Fair Isle Yoke Sweater in a medium is a good fit. The wool and the cut is slightly thicker/bigger than the grey fair isle that was aroudn but sold out in the winter.

Finally, the Bird Print Cotton Bandana in Rich Teal is beautiful but very, very small. I cam just about twist it and knot it around my neck. Nevertheless, it will be good in winter as a cosy layer with a jumper or blouse.

ToastCosILoveIt · 21/06/2021 09:59

PS, why has Toast stopped all of the online reviews of clothes? It is very frustrating as I find them really helpful for sizing.

Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 10:29

@ToastCosILoveIt

PS, why has Toast stopped all of the online reviews of clothes? It is very frustrating as I find them really helpful for sizing.
Because everyone was posting bad reviews about customer service and returns I think..!!

Re the brushstroke dress ToastcosILoveit, I have pinned it so the side .. flap is inside and I think it sits much better in a tulip shape. The flappy bit was annoying I thought will stitch it in that way .. hang on ill post a photo of how I have done it..

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 10:40

So this is how I have pinned it ( the corner of the flap turned inside out an pinned straight to the pocket seam.. )
Im only going to put a stitch in where the to pin is and the bottom not all the way down. I do like it better that way

OP posts:
Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 10:41

No flappy wings !

OP posts:
ToastCosILoveIt · 21/06/2021 10:50

Thanks @Laska2Meryls, it does look better pinned, i might look into that x

Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 11:00

Yes , because the fabric is so light, I think that it really makes no difference to the movement of the dress..

Countmeout · 21/06/2021 12:42

Well my jumper arrived by post without any announcement. I ordered on Wednesday early in the sale.
Sooo glad I ordered medium, (most of my other stuff is small) it’s very neat fitting (the reviews do say that. ) almost wish I’d ordered larger for comparison .
I didn’t find it itchy but had only on to try. It will be lovely with the Annie culottes or jeans.
It’s a more closely knit jumper than the other one I have , feels very cosy, sleeves are a great length , I love a long sleeve.

Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 14:22

The tan Steve Mono sandals arrived (also without announcement). They are really fab and keeping. I am a bit annoyed to realise that I actually failed to order the grey felt slippers ( I thought I had and they are OOS now .). Never mind, £50 saved.

The 2nd Brushstoke dress also arrived and that's going back as keeping the JL one ( as they actually price matched it £10 cheaper than Toast and Toast tell me that I can claim back the £3 postage as I had tried to cancel it ,.. Hopefully it wont be too painful a refund process this time.. ) but such a difference in the packing! JL one was wrapped in plasic with a hanger and tissue and arrived crease-less .. the Toast one shoved in the bag looks like a rag, its so crumpled Hmm

...but they did send me some Furoshiki cloths with the sandals Smile

OP posts:
AuldFox · 21/06/2021 14:56

Oh dear, they can’t even get the packing right @Laska2Meryls! Poor performance all round.

Laska2Meryls · 21/06/2021 15:21

Oooh found the that looks like the same slippers that Toast sell for £60 for 36.95 ! Hand made in Nepal wool felt. ..Do look up you are interested google Egos slippers
Ive ordered some and as I have last year's Toast ones to compare them with , ill report back ..
I got them from a shop in Bath but Atterley Uk have them also ... ( Based in Edinburgh)

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 21/06/2021 22:45

Well my Toast parcel also came today unannounced!
Striped boat neck not particularly great or generous even in a medium but I do like the colours and its nice under a few of my things so think I will be keeping.
I bought the Lydia Jumpsuit in blue. Had been stalking it for about a year as it was OOS for quite a while in that colour. Its super comfy. Not as generous as I remember it but then with menopause, I think this is me rather than the jumpsuit. Anyway am keeping. So very useful for my summer lounging days with a tee under it.
I also got the cotton wrapping cloth things added in my bag which was nice although a little perplexed with what to do with them. Would prefer a discount! The clothes came neat enough but really just put in a paper bag. Not nicely wrapped in tissue like they used to be. What has happened to Toast? Its like they are taking their customers for granted. Another part of their fading customer services.

neveradullmoment99 · 21/06/2021 22:47

Still no discounts online for John Lewis. They are usually ahead of Toast!

Zinnia · 21/06/2021 22:51

I think JL will be late to discount Toast this year if at all - they sold off this time last year (around the time of the original thread!) most of the stuff Toast have put into their sale this year. So I've finally given in and ordered (from Toast) the lilac grandad collar shirt I resisted in the JL sale last time round. It's lovely, of course.

AFingerofFudge · 22/06/2021 08:17

There are reductions on the JL website, it's just no advert of "reduced to clear " - they appear the same as the full priced items! Only had a quick look but seem to be in line with Toast's own reductions

AmethystMoonShine · 22/06/2021 08:37

@AFingerofFudge nothing showed reduced on JL for me?

AmethystMoonShine · 22/06/2021 08:37

How can you see the reduced price?

AFingerofFudge · 22/06/2021 08:41

@AmethystMoonShine so for instance these two are both the reduced prices but they look like ordinary prices IYSWIM.

Toast 7 - Onwards to brighter days, we hope ..
