What kind of trainers do you use that look "elegant"?

I never quite manage to get that effortless and stylish look that some women manage with trainers and pants. I always look like an overweight person going to the gym. I know that being overweight doesn't help 😓 I am a 16 UK. Many thanks for any advice

I wear brooks to run but recently wore to work with jeans and received some compliments - will find and link. Plus bought Veja trainers ... in way via Hermes

I would say go fully white. Bright, clean white.

suckingonchillidogs · 05/04/2021 16:52

I've got a pair of Converse (Chuck Taylor Dainty I think they're called). They're not as clumpy as some trainers and look good with dresses as well as trousers.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 05/04/2021 16:58

I like the ones from Oliver Bonas. I'd say look for those that are less "exercise-y", ie the ones I wear with jeans or palazzo pants would never be supportive enough for running!

GertrudeTheGreat · 05/04/2021 17:42

I have white Fitflop trainers and I'm really happy with them.

Elegant...? Hmmmmm maybe not tbh, but they definitely don't look like gym trainers. They have a thick sole, which looks a bit like a flat form, which helps I think.

Mainly, I love them as they're so comfy!

LadyAgripina · 05/04/2021 19:35

Thank you for all the suggestions! I am looking into all of them. Maybe the white flit flops? Converse are out of question (thick ankles). Wink

Adidas sleek or Stan smith in pure white
Or superga in white
Or even Vans in a black and white or a pale colour

Basically if you don’t want to look sporty the trainers need to have a flatter sole. White always looks smarter.

Cocolapew · 05/04/2021 19:41

I'm a big fan of Stan Smiths, these are sleeker and I love them.

I like all black trainers - ones without any obvious logo or colourful bits are hard to find but you can track them down and I like how they look under trousers.

KnottedFern · 05/04/2021 19:46

I like the joules Coast trainers in navy or white. And the superga trainers in white or pale pastel colours.

I saw the thread and thought "trainers" and "elegant" are not compatible but the Jules ones , whilst not elegant, are very nice and are something I'd wear.

I suppose I'd call them sneakers or plimsolls rather than trainers.

Leather and simple

I wear these with jeans and dresses

Sorry but by no stretch of the imagination can that be described as "elegant"
hobag82 · 05/04/2021 20:15

I wear white superga 2950 cotu as they have a slim sole. I did have slim sole converse but were too narrow for my wide feet 🙂

confusednortherner · 05/04/2021 20:32

Fairfax and Favour Alexandra's look nice but I can't be trusted in white!!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 05/04/2021 20:51

Superga or Stan Smith.

I hear good things about Bensimon, but I don't think they'd work on me.

Salanda · 05/04/2021 21:06

What about something sleek and simple side like:

I’m not sure about the Fitflop ones personally, the sole and shape of them are a bit off. The Brooks ones will look too sporty if you’re specifically trying to not look like you’re off to the gym.

Puffykins · 05/04/2021 21:45

I've got thick ankles and I wear Stan Smiths with a long skirt or dress. They're super comfortable too.

3wheels · 05/04/2021 22:42

I agree with Stan smiths and they are very comfy.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/04/2021 22:56

I’m a big trainer fan, but to me they are not elegant - the point is to get that high/low vibe, lovely dress, but not with fancy shoes, type thing.

Anyway, my favourites are Adidas Continental 80, Stan Smiths, and Veja Esplar. The Adidas I have in multiple colour ways. I like black trainers with black opaques and a black leather skirt, for example, white more with bare ankles.

LadyAgripina · 05/04/2021 23:24

Thank you for all the ideas! It's a whole new world for me Smile

I have Veja Campos. They would fit the bill.

I can see the point about the flat sole now 🤩
