What kind of trainers do you use that look "elegant"?

I never quite manage to get that effortless and stylish look that some women manage with trainers and pants. I always look like an overweight person going to the gym. I know that being overweight doesn't help 😓 I am a 16 UK. Many thanks for any advice

[quote KnottedFern]I like the joules Coast trainers in navy or white. And the superga trainers in white or pale pastel colours.

I don't think trainers can be described as elegant. This reminds me of Josephine, in custody, in Spiral. Edelman brings her a change of clothes, including trainers. She picks them up by her fingertips and asks 'what are these horrors'. Aim for plain, unobjectionable.

I recently tried on lots and lots of trainers. The most elegant ones were Vejas but I didn't find them comfortable.

Bluntness100 · 06/04/2021 17:54

What’s your budget op? I have the Lk Bennett ones ans they are lovely and very flattering on. They also have a sale on now, which is always a bonus,

They are wow!!! But way too expensive. The fall under the category "shoes", don't they?

Have a look at River Island, I got a lovely pair from there last year.

Any that are machine washable?

legalseagull · 07/04/2021 20:30

It's got to be Vejas!

AmethystMoonShine · 08/04/2021 07:33

I like Springcourt in white or cream

ElderMillennial · 08/04/2021 07:46

I don't think trainers are "elegant" but I think you can look smart and out together encounter with trainers. Not trainers that look like sports trainers though like the ones posted above, the kind that is more of a pump or shoe eg I have some plain leather UGG trainers in tan and a pair in white (white are my favourite) and I think they look nice with jeans.

ElderMillennial · 08/04/2021 07:49

I can't find the ones I have but they look v similar to the LK Bennet ones - they are a simple white pump. I got them at an outlet store for about £66, think usual price was £99.

Those plain white ones in the blog look nice too.

I think a plain show, personally I'd go for leather, is much nice than converse as well.

Beebopawhop · 08/04/2021 07:54

I have white men's plain converse that seem to fit my wide feet and look smartish with jeans if that makes sense.

KittyMcKitty · 08/04/2021 07:55

Stan Smith’s or any of the other white leather trainers of a similar style. Bright white with sparkling clean laces.

hyperpigmentationBgone · 08/04/2021 08:21

I wear trainers non-stop! I wear Superga plimsolls (navy) or Nike Air Force 1s (White). Running trainers are Asics (black and white). I find the Superga plimsolls very versatile. To me, these all have a fairly neat and clean look.

This.

If budget allows, look at Common Projects and Axel Arigato, but Stan Smiths are a good option.

I like crime London (but only in the sale) Aspiga have a few good pairs on their website too

CatherineTheNotSoGreat · 08/04/2021 10:58

I quite like these from Sezane. Haven't bought though.

Because last year I blew the budget and bought these, sadly at full price. It was my summer splurge and I absolutely love them. I wore them all last summer, and will wear again this summer. They're nice and low-cut around the ankle, so lend as much of an elegance as a sneaker can, I think. And they're pretty much wearable with everything.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/04/2021 11:12

Any tips on keeping them clean?? I splurged on a pair of leather supergas and as well as finding them very uncomfortable, I find them impossible to keep clean. Particularly the laces, which have blackened around where the lace holes are. I don't mind wiping over the shoes so much, but I hate having to take the laces out and then do them up again, it's such a faff!!

grannycake · 08/04/2021 15:48

Nike Air Force 1's are my go to for wearing with trousers and jacket for work - so comfortable as well

longtompot · 08/04/2021 16:23

I love Air and Grace. No idea what they are like as have yet to be able to buy a pair. I don't know if they would be classed as elegant either, just thought I'd mention them. I really like these airandgracelondon.com/collections/low-tops/products/cru-black-star-trainers
and these are also nice

I am with Josephine (wish I had her hair mind). I cannot 'do' trainers with skirts/dresses. It just looks wrong on me. I sort of wish I could embrace it as it is an accepted up to date look, but I guess it's just not me. I suppose it'll go out of style eventually......
LadyAgripina · 08/04/2021 18:29

Thank you for all the ideas! It's amazing. It seems that the Stan smiths are wining the contest based on price, coolness and comfortability. The too flat ones I am sure would be uncomfortable x me.

@Berolloreb where I come from, sneakers and dresses or black leggings would be an enormous NOOO. But I learnt to appreciate the vibe living here and I don't believe it's a passing style. I think it's a very British look that I love. In my country we say that this is the world capital of sneakers. I believe I would look all wrong anyway because it seems to do well with slim people. That's why I don't want to buy the most expensive ones. Grin
