I used to love Aussie 3 minute miracle as a cheap fix but hadn’t used it for years. It used to be lovely and thick and my hair always felt a bit better after using it.
Bought a bottle last week - what have they done to it?! Horrible watery rubbish that did nothing for my hair.

Ghd curling wand - now I love a ghd product but this does nothing for me.

Rosehip oil - paid about £40 for a tiny bottle of this when it was all the rage a couple of years ago. Did absolutely nothing for me.

And I've just realised this is a style and beauty thread...please ignore previous post 🤦‍♀️

hollowchocolate · 02/04/2021 08:50

Bare minerals. just didn’t agree with me.

twilightcafe · 02/04/2021 09:39

This thread is fascinating. We are all so different in what suits us.
I love:
Weleda Skin Food Light as a facial moisturiser. The original one is used as hand cream or perhaps on my cheeks if it's really cold outside.
The Ordinary Buffet is OK. But the one with niacinamide and zinc keeps my skin clear.

Beauty Pie: Hits and misses with Beauty Pie. Love their facial sunscreen because it doesn't make my face look ashy. Their Superbrow Luxe Precision pencil is the perfect shade for me and a third of the price of the Mac one that I used for years.

I look dead if I wear Pillow Talk Intense on its own. Works much better when paired and blended with a darker lipliner. I'm black, so use Mac lipliner in Chestnut.

CleanAndPaidFor · 02/04/2021 09:44

Agree about Charlotte Tilbury. Tried a lipstick and it was a horrible texture and colour. I don't understand why it's so popular. She uses herself in all her
advertising too and looks very over made up ( in my admittedly middle aged opinion!)

PourMeAMerlot · 02/04/2021 10:19

Agree about urban decay primer - rubbish.
Their all nighter concealer was terrible too although I love the naked one (which is only trumped by nars!)

@hellcatspangle
Don't apologize! I found that helpful as wa considering a shark.

QueenPaw · 02/04/2021 10:26

@Fortunefavours1 see I have a shark but the corded one and I adore it!

QueenPaw · 02/04/2021 10:28

@Regretsy I'm curly girl now so don't use it but the osmo hair mask used to be amazing for me
£3 on Amazon for the small pot so not a giant waste of it doesn't work either. I am PICKY Grin and it's the only thing that actually made a difference

Hufflepuffsunite · 02/04/2021 10:33

Ah I must be the odd one out because I love Charlotte Tilbury! Pillow Talk is very flattering on me and I recently bought one of the foundations which I love - very lightweight and gives a lovely glow.

Overhyped- the Revolution conceal and define concealer: cakey and horrible. Estee Lauder DW: cakey and horrible. A Mac foundation I tried once which instantly oxidised and turned me a vibrant shade of orange (I'm very very fair). Benefit Roller Lash. I honestly don't understand mascara and this was expensive yet did no more than a poundland mascara imo. I've actually stopped wearing the stuff as it all just smudges and clumps regardless of brand and price.

AntennaReborn · 02/04/2021 10:43

Mine is Touche Éclat, it never did anything for me.

Also magnetic false lashes. I got sucked in by one of these promo videos on FB (the ones made to look like a customer review), and it was shite. The eye liner needs applying in such a thick line for it to work, it looked horrendous. I don't know why I even bought that kit, I had never once wanted false lashes before but somehow thought this would be a good idea Confused

Some of the products mentioned on here have been great for me though.
I really like the Hourglass ambient light palette, and Chanel Nº5. And I really, really like the Ordinary! (I swear I am not a shill Grin). It took some trial and error but I am finally rid of my cystic acne, AND my skin tone is a lot more even. I look better at nearly 42 than I have done since I entered puberty

lookdeepintotheparka · 02/04/2021 10:49

Agree @Hufflepuffsunite about mascara. All the way through lockdown I've used a £4.99 Rimmel one as it felt pointless using my expensive ones when WFH. I love it, never smudges and won't be buying anything expensive again!

This is such a useful thread - saving me a fortune as I'm such a sheep when it comes to beauty products Blush

BTW I have the corded Shark and I love it too!!

EventuallyDistracted · 02/04/2021 10:54

Pretty well all serums, acid toners etc. My skin prefers a gentle cleanse, a cheap moisturiser such as Astral and some good SPF, with physical exfoliation by flannel or oatmeal to any of the fancy stuff.

Micellar waters, two different ones have given me eczema around my eyes.

Boots Curl Creme - no matter how little I used it made my hair straighter and lanky.

ChaToilLeam · 02/04/2021 11:04

Nip & Fab Glycolic Body Fix is good, works on my KP much better than more expensive brands. Also any foot balm with a high urea content will help. :-)

ChaToilLeam · 02/04/2021 11:04

^That was for @SunsetBeetch

Flappityflippers1 · 02/04/2021 11:31

MAC mascara, £25 and literally slid off my lashes and onto my cheeks!

Bare minerals I also found awful and my skin broke out.

I’ve recently bought garnier organic lemongrass face wash and moisturiser, and it’s bloody lovely! Skin feels amazing and they were 3 quid each.

Regretsy · 02/04/2021 11:35

@QueenPaw thank you! Will def try that. The only thing that makes a difference to my hair is L’Oréal miracle oil and a silk pillowcase, but it’s still too frizzy for my liking!

BrownEyedGirl80 · 02/04/2021 11:42

Chanel khol eyeliner.Rimmel one is better.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 02/04/2021 11:57

Molton Brown -- makes my skin itch (although some of the scents are lovely).

Nivea in-shower moisturiser -- it just seems to slick all over my skin without sinking into it. It's like being thinly coated in sticky rubber.

LizzyELane · 02/04/2021 12:00

Another negative vote for Charlotte Tilbury. The expensive brow shaper and lip pencil were both very dry, dragged the skin and very under pigmented. Both useless. The brow pencil even had a white coating on it, wish I'd sent both back. The Superstar lipstick is okay, bit greasy and the lid falls off constantly (which I've read other reviews complaining about) so it ends up with bits from my make up bag stuck to it. Tried samples of Magic Cream, runny, and her perfume which is touted as some sort of magic confidence boosting aphrodisiac - smelt awful. Got sucked in by the very impressive marketing, never again.

The Ordinary - not impressed, won't bother again.

Elvive 8 Second 'Wonder Water' might as well be plain 'water', waste of a tenner.

Most top range mascaras, I stick with Maybelline Lash Sensational.

All nail strengthening products.

Living Proof Dry Volume Blast, v expensive and flattened my hair onto my scalp!

CMOTDibbler · 02/04/2021 12:03

Sweaty Betty leggings. Everyone raves about them, and I thought I'd treat myself. No nicer than my £20 Decathlon ones

MindBodyChocolate · 02/04/2021 12:07

Clarins Flash Beauty Balm - one of those cult products that I wanted to love but does nothing for me except to accentuate and shine my red bits 🤣

woodhill · 02/04/2021 12:11

@DustySpringboard

Agree with Aveda hair products - make my hair lanky & lifeless

Mac ruby woo - definitely doesn't suit me

Any high end mascara, absolutely no different to those at a lower price point yet I'm still swayed by the posh packaging and hype

Estée Lauder double wear, too thick and dried my skin

Benefit foundation, I turned orange!

I absolutely love the Aveda hair shampoos, my hair doesn't tangle
impressivelycunty · 02/04/2021 12:23

Babyliss Big Hair. Agree about Aveda; double wear is hideous on me. And CT miracle cream brought me out in spots. I finally found an amazing cream via a sample from Space NK and of course it's £210 a go. So depressing...

withlotsoflove · 02/04/2021 12:35

@hellcatspangle

Shark cordless vacuum cleaner. I still see people raving about it and it's shite. It sucks up dust, but any bits of grit that are a bit heavier just jiggle about in the tube and fall out when you switch it off. As for the hand held section on its own, totally useless.
Creates lovely waves in the hair though! 😉
