I used to love Aussie 3 minute miracle as a cheap fix but hadn’t used it for years. It used to be lovely and thick and my hair always felt a bit better after using it.
Bought a bottle last week - what have they done to it?! Horrible watery rubbish that did nothing for my hair.

Ghd curling wand - now I love a ghd product but this does nothing for me.

Rosehip oil - paid about £40 for a tiny bottle of this when it was all the rage a couple of years ago. Did absolutely nothing for me.

Let down products or fall down products? Hold up stockings.

I’m not a fan of tights, outside of the extreme winter months. Hold ups are a fantastic idea, but for me total failure in reality.

They should call them “fall downs”!

BJHair · 03/04/2021 08:21

I have the corded shark and DH loves it
The handheld one is crap though
BObbie brown bb cream I love
Coco by Chanel is gorgeous but I don’t like No5

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/04/2021 08:33

Just about every bb or cc cream put there. All absolute shit, until someone on here recommended aveda. Game changer. Still a bit dark for my skin when I don't have a tan, but I just take it right down my neck.

Every volume shampoo/spray/mousse on the market. All a load of shit.

Any fancy face cream. Just stick to the cheap stuff. I've yet to find one that's any better that a good vaseline moisturiser.

I tried oil cleansing after people raved about it MN. It ruined my skin. Took months for it to go back to normal.

mycatchichi · 03/04/2021 08:35

Rachel Riley clothes for children. I ordered a dress that was in the sale. Cheap and nasty looking. It's original price was £100 and what a rip off.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/04/2021 08:37

Bras are pretty shit too. I had a baby a couple of months ago and I've ordered so many trying tk find something that fits and nothing does. I can't wait for the shops to open again!

Shark vacuum. Too top heavy, no weight on the bottom so basically jumped along the carpet. It went straight back and I ordered another gtech.

Washing liquid. Bone compare to fairy.

woodhill · 03/04/2021 10:18

Do you think there is an emperor's new clothes mentality with some of these products itms

FreshFaceTime · 03/04/2021 10:22

@woodhill I just think it shows how different we all are.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 03/04/2021 10:37

I'm a sucker for buying beauty products that promise to 'cure' my oily skin. Nothing works, it's hormonal. I know this but still can't resist!

The Ordinary niacinimide was a particular disappointment after reading rave reviews i used it religiously and all it did was leave a weird, chalky film on my face.

Any moisturiser I've used for oily skin has also been rubbish. The focus seems to be on mattifying but they don't actually moisturise at all. Bought an expensive La Roche Posay one which was pretty crap. I just stick to a cheap pot from Aldi now.

I was very excited to try The

Alsohuman · 03/04/2021 10:42

Aldi moisturiser is the dog’s bollocks. Especially the Rejuvelift one, it’s just as good as the £80 Guerlain one I used to use before I wised up. As a pp said, there’s a lot of emperor’s new clothes with expensive products.

I bought a few of the Aldi creams- love Aldi- have a skin like a rhino- not sensitive at all but all their creams burn like hell on me.🧐
RampantIvy · 03/04/2021 11:45

I'm a little underwhelmed by the Aldi serum. I don't like the smell. I much prefer the Protect and Perfect (which costs £££ more, but is much nicer IMO).

Absolutely. I also believe 100% that smaller brands have their marketing people scattergun S&B. At least in their early stages. You only have to glance through and spot the "anyone bought from followed by a load of "omg they're the best, changed my life, would never buy any other". We know brands pay for positive reviews, and forums like MN are a way to do it for free.
DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 03/04/2021 11:54

Wunder super stay 2 eyeliner. Super stay my arse, panda eyes a gogo.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/04/2021 12:21

I tried also moisturiser and it made me react but I have very weird and sensitive skin. Good old Aveeno cream works and never winds my skin up.

thatsgotit · 03/04/2021 12:23

I recently ordered Tarte's Shape Tape 'powder foundation' as part of a bundle on QVC and found it absolute pants. Not really any different from a normal pressed powder and definitely doesn't do the job of a foundation. A pity as it's my favourite brand and I love most Tarte stuff.

I have a few Charlotte Tilbury products and I like them a lot, but the prices mean it's impossible for anything to live up to the hype.

Clinique Dramatically Different moisturiser (as far as I can tell, the only thing that's dramatically different is the price) and also Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm, which I wanted to love because I like the product name. Grin

And I really don't understand the hype about Chanel No. 5. Maybe it doesn't 'take' properly on me, but I always think it smells more like a drawer liner or some sort of talc than perfume - very old-lady-ish. MIL bought me some and I feel awful that I don't use it.

Also on perfume, Marc Jacobs Decadence is plain weird and Perfect smells like one of those scented tumble-dryer sheets. On me at least.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/04/2021 12:36
@Appletreehat the problem with hyralauronic acid is that you can’t just slap it on, otherwise it will suck all the moisture out of whatever you have on top of it. Like make up .

The idea is, you sandwich it, so put on damp skin, then the HA, they spray a mist over it followed by moisturiser etc and it’s absorbing the moisture from the spray and locking it in etc.

It has to take the moisture from somewhere.
I didn’t know that! I knew to put it on damp skin but not to spray it after and then apply moisturiser. Thank you!

Hansper · 03/04/2021 12:37

Everything I've bought from La Roche Posay.

@DazzlePaintedBattlePants
Gutted about the Wunder eyeliner, I was about to buy it!

MadisonMontgomery · 03/04/2021 12:41

The Ordinary products - shit, I suppose at least they’re cheap!
Emma Hardie cleansing balm - so heavily perfumed it made my eyes sting & water.
Any expensive mascara - just find what type of brush you like best and get cheap ones with that type.
And yes to the cordless shark vacuum - barely suck, and any grit just falls back out onto the floor when you switch it off.

dividedwefall · 03/04/2021 12:43

I thought the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser and moisturiser was rubbish. I bought it all after seeing it recommended on here a few years ago but it was at best Meh and probably no good for my skin. I started using the moisturiser on my hands just to get rid of it.

Tigi shampoos - don't agree with my hair at all.

Coconut oil on hair - turned my hair super frizzy and fluffy which I learned was because my hair is already protein rich and doesn't need extra from coconut oil.

The biggie - Molton Brown shower gels. Total waste of money. I just don't get it... Also have an £80 bottle of Molten Brown perfume that you can't smell on you 10 minutes after dowsing yourself in it.

Yes, the serum’s not up to much. The day cream really suits me though and you’d have to tear it from my cold, dead hands!

Try Waterproof Scandal eyes by Rimmel. It’s cheap and it stays put.

The coconut oil is interesting as my curly hair loves it! I did the test where you drop a hair into water and it either sinks or floats. Mine sunk like a stone so that might be why I reacts well to coconut oil.

All hair loss products

Hansper · 03/04/2021 12:48

@justanotherneighinparadise

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll give that one a try Smile

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/04/2021 13:17

I got a chanel mascara not long ago, delivered to me by boots, received the wrong order and they were messing me about so I kept it. Absolute shite! Honestly. Cakey, gloopy rubbish. So glad I hadn't actually bought it.
