New thread. Let’s get the vanilla away, lockdown done, and the citrus and coconut out.

@Fferny1 it's lovely and it's about £6 for 250ml! I love ones like this for if I'm going somewhere I don't want to have perfume on but just a bit of something

NotMyCat · 20/07/2021 08:01

Drowned in this again!

I've just received my samples from Miller Harris and Gallivant. I've also got a blind sample box from Foile to try. I'm looking forward to trying them and seeing if I can detect any notes - I bought a recommended book to try so hopefully that'll help.
And I got a bottle of Jo Loves x Zara rhubarb perfume yesterday - it smells really nice and is very refreshing in this heat!

I'm really enjoying getting in to trying more perfumes.

MissBattleaxe · 20/07/2021 18:36

@FragrantlyScent I love your descriptions!

SOTD is Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps. I also have Fidji to hand in this weather. I also enjoy a squirt of 1000 Flowers Fleur de Lavande as it makes me feel clean between bouts of humidity.

MissBattleaxe · 20/07/2021 18:37

@ThankYouVeryMuchGerry I love Gallivant! Which samples did you get? My favourites are Tel Aviv, Bukhara and London.

FragrantlyScent · 21/07/2021 00:29

You're very kind, @MissBattleaxe. I love your blog! I am a regular visitor and always enjoy your reviews. Smile

Today has been the worst day for heat so far. We had a short thunder storm and that only made it worse! Instead of just being terribly hot, it's now humid and sticky too! Angry

I literally tipped a bottle of lavender cologne over myself today, multiple times, then I added a couple of sprays of Eau Sauvage edp for a bit of dry herby-woodiness, so I imagine I smell a bit like a field in sun baked Provence. 🥵

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/07/2021 00:37

SOTD Miss Dior Originale.

SOTD Take Me To The River by 4160 Tuesdays

Love this. It's a sample, I might get a full bottle at some point ready for next spring

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 21/07/2021 12:08

SOTD A Girl In Capri - Lanvin. Very summery!

MrsRLynde · 21/07/2021 19:33

SotD - Eau du Sud. Too precious to put in a suitcase - so not on the holiday list, but favourite hot weather wear. Basil, mandarin and moss. Sharp, textured and deep.

Fferny1 · 21/07/2021 20:12

Rose d' ete by Rosine is Sotd.
Delicious Apple & yellow Rose that I forgot I possessed. Perfect for hot weather.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/07/2021 21:16

SOTD Heeley Sel Marin to get my hairs did.

SOTD Monotheme Vetiver Bourbon. Very powdery vetiver that smells how I imagine a fern plant to smell. Luscious. There's almost a hint of ladies face-powder to this, like your mother's make up bag. Makes you feel very put together.

Monotheme is such a great perfumery, the scents are such good quality, they have a classy, well blended character that smells chic and expensive and you would never guess they were the price they were. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Lotsofpots · 21/07/2021 22:54

To you lovely lot who asked - I'm all ok thanks. First time with COVID despite working in an office throughout all the lockdowns, with the kids in school/nursery throughout.
Can't smell or taste a bloody thing (though still craving ice cream) but otherwise as right as rain. Slowly losing my mind while stuck at home with two little ones though. And miserable that we've missed end of the school year and a holiday we're meant to be going on.

Seeing as I can't enjoy perfume I was thinking of my summer top 5:

  • JM nectarine blossom and honey. No saying power but so so glorious that I just don't care. Juicy and fresh and fruity.
  • 4160 rhubarb and citrus. One of my favourite perfumes ever. Makes 30degrees in London bearable.
  • clarins eau des jardins. I use this like a grown up body spray. It just smells like a lovey citrusy garden and I can use with abandon as - and I mean this in the best possible way - it won't offend anyone. It's uplifting and happy and easy to wear.
  • diptyque l'ombre dans l'eau. I find this both tart and heady at the same time, and it reminds me of long summer drunken evenings before kids.

Struggling to choose between 4160 WIDOMH and diptyque philosykos (fuck knows if I've spelt that right). I love a fig perfume in the summer so will probably plump for that. I've found a few other figs recently I might slightly prefer but I can't smell them to remind myself which ones they are. And Phil is a classic that I've worn for years so I probably shouldn't let newness steal my heart without some proper wear time.

Well that was fun. That's 30mins of this hellish isolation well spent.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 22/07/2021 09:03

SOTD is Elizabeth Arden- Green Tea Pear Blossom. lovely and refrshing where its already sticky and warm here. Not quite as refreshing as SignorRicci but i just cant put my hands on that right now, it must be buried at the back of the cupboard i store perfumes in!!

Mrs08 · 22/07/2021 09:14

Sotd avon lbd weekend
Sparkly citrus chypre

FragrantlyScent · 22/07/2021 09:37

Lots JM Nectarine blossom and Honey sounds wonderful. Nectarines in this heat taste delicious, so refreshing, juicy and sweet, I can smell them now. I don't normally like fruity scents, but that looks just perfect for me. Covid sounds terrible, I can't imagine not being able to smell or taste anything, it would be like a bit of colour had faded from the day. Feel better soon. Flowers

FragrantlyScent · 22/07/2021 23:03

No actual SOTD today, just lavender water as it's too hot.

I feel very low this evening so will probably spritz on more lavender water. Its quite comforting and soothing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/07/2021 23:19

Oh lots poor you. I had a thing over Christmas 2019 and it was weeks before I could taste or smell again - like mid Jan. Maybe it was early Covid? Anyway, I found I did best with crunchy food because at least I felt like I was eating, even though I couldn’t taste.

SOTD YSL Libre. So pleased I got the FB of this.

For those that use Perfume Parlour, do you prefer the regular spray, extract spray or oil? I might try a couple but not sure which to go for.

MissBattleaxe · 23/07/2021 09:30

@FragrantlyScent Thank you. That has put the biggest smile on my face.

@Lotsofpots I hope you get well soon. Great selection by the way!

@mrs08 You've just reminded me to get my bottle of Avon LBD Weekend out of the dark, dark drawer. I can't find it on the website anymore. You have to be so quick with Avon when you find one you like!

MissBattleaxe · 23/07/2021 09:32

@Lotsofpots If you like nectarine and you don't mind short staying power, try Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Nectarine. It's gorgeously light and much cheaper than the Jo Malone! I've seen it around for about £12 online.

MrsRLynde · 23/07/2021 17:32

SotD is Les Nuits D'Hadrien. Not really for nuits at all Grin. (And agree with whoever was saying down thread that Eau d'Hadrien has changed significantly Sad).

MrsRLynde · 23/07/2021 17:41

Tattie - spray. Not sure why.
