New thread. Let’s get the vanilla away, lockdown done, and the citrus and coconut out.

SOTD MMM Untitled.

one I used to wear the original Anna Sui when I was at uni. Very powdery, in a black and lilac bottle.

I'm mostly wearing 4160 Ealing Green at the moment, which is lovely & refreshing in the heat.

TattiePants · 17/07/2021 17:14

@Judystilldreamsofhorses that Anna Sui is a blast from the past. I used to wear it all the time.

PearsMorgan · 17/07/2021 18:23

SOTD Tauer incense extreme. Coriander and sharp incense perfect in the heat

PearsMorgan · 17/07/2021 18:24

Going to have a shower and liberally apply cheap Eau de cologne later

MrsRLynde · 17/07/2021 19:06

SotD Citrus Meze (Jo Malone X Zara). Quite a full bodied citrus and laundry musk - nice and comforting on a hot day.

FragrantlyScent · 18/07/2021 02:42

It's too hot, so am drinking lots of tea. It does work.Grin

SOTD original Eau Sauvage edp, a birthday present.

It's very refreshing, and has an almost astringent quality, perfect for this weather. It opens with a sharp blast of bitter lemon and bergamot, made slightly medicinal by a herbal lavender. This disappears quite quickly, and the heart and base smell similar to my nose, sort of peppery and spicy from carnation (like the warm smell of ground turmeric), which makes my nose tingle; and then green, very dry (so dry, almost dusty) from what I think is patchouli and vetiver. The vetiver to me doesn't have that powdery quality it sometimes gets, but instead is almost woody. Many hours later, I can smell pencil shavings, which is actually quite pleasant. This is definitely a new love, but I can't think what it reminds me of. I'm sure I've smelled something similar before.

I'm not sure the note listings for this are quite right on fragrantica, they've missed things out, but then I do sometimes disagree with their note pyramids (and the reviews). Blush

If any of you lovely smelling lot have this, I would love to hear your opinions. Smile

Mrs08 · 18/07/2021 08:29

Haven't got that one so can't help...sounds gorgeous though!
I'm off down to mg mothers shortly before the weather turns even hotter 😫
Sotd will be 4160 SSOTPE
Or a walk in the woods...oddly refreshing on the heat

1frenchfoodie · 18/07/2021 08:38

Eau Sauvage sounds right up my street @FragrantlyScent thanks for putting me on it it. May help divert my attention from lusting after DS&Durga’s Cowboy Grass - fab dry prairie scent of grasses and scrubby herbs but way too expensive (especially as I bought their Bowmakers and my nose has gone off it)

NotMyCat · 18/07/2021 11:56

SOTD freshly laundered 4160T. Too hot for anything else!

MrsRLynde · 18/07/2021 14:37

Flash Summer Hols Top 5 - who's in?

PP Italian Fruit 1134 - a splash it all over lovely mandarin-fest, great if you have to travel on public transport.
Missoni Acqua - aquatic daffodils. Strong enough to stand-up to fragranced sun cream. Shouldn't work - but screams beach to me. Decidedly odd second cousin of Daisy?
Shay & Blue Suffolk Lavender - best summer incense (and most interesting S&B) ever. Refreshing and unusual lavender and melon combo. Sadly discontinued.
Miller Harris Lumiere Doree - the Platonic ideal type of a summer citrus/white floral.
Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio - a luscious green fig.

Fferny1 · 18/07/2021 15:59

I'm in @MrsRLynde.
1/ An old favourite Miller Harris Fleur Du Matin - a glorious honeysuckle & herbal citrussy melange.

2/ Hermes Pamplemousse Rose . Ultimate pure Grapefruit refreshment with a beautiful Rosey glow.

3/ Calyx by Clinique - a fizzy sour mouth-puckering passion fruit/guava cooler.

4/ Frederick Malle un lys de Mediterranee sun-warmed lilies in a coastal garden in n a salty sea breeze.

5/ Fleur de Liane by L' Artisan Parfumeur. A salty sea breeze from the Pacific through the open windows, with florals glimpsed at a distance, freshly mopped wooden floors and a slight milky smell.
Perfectly encapsulates my memories of H.K when my children were babies.

MrsRLynde · 18/07/2021 16:15

Finally worked out who you are, FFerny - sorry to be slow. Always moved by the way you describe your time in HK and your babies. Flowers

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 18/07/2021 16:39

Ok if I join the thread please!

I have loved reading the threads from Autumn and this one and realised that I love perfume. My favourite ever has to be JM French Lime Blossom, I just love it.

Now however, I want to find some other scents I love so have been sample shopping with wild abandon - I have so many samples now my OH is wondering what I'm up to!

I'dlove to find out more about scents and how to distinguish the notes etc, is there a book you could recommend or the best websites to look at. I think perfume will be my next big adventure.

Lotsofpots · 18/07/2021 16:45

@Judystilldreamsofhorses

This one!
I used to wear this too! Making me very nostalgic to try and seek a bottle out.

SOTD is 4160 rhubarb and citrus. Utterly pointless as I have covid and can smell sod all.

MrsRLynde · 18/07/2021 16:58

Hope you are not too poorly, Pots?

Welcome ThankYou, Mandy Aftel's little book, Essence and Alchemy, is a great intro to pefumery materials. If you haven't already got the original Turin and Sanchez A-Z , that's a classic text in perfume criticism (and a hugely enjoyable/funny read, too).

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 18/07/2021 17:18

Thanks MrsR - I've ordered the new one and will have a look for the older version.

Fferny1 · 19/07/2021 11:15

@MrsRLynde babies are now stroppy nocturnal nearly 17 year old's now 😭.

@Pots how are you?
Is this the first time you've had Covid?
I remember you travelling on the tube with your babies in the early stages of this pandemic.

Welcome all the newbies.
I went to bed last night after spraying loads of Hermes Pamplemousse Rose as it was 20° outside, still hotter inside.
It's the only thing that makes me feel refreshed.

NotMyCat · 19/07/2021 12:45

SOTD gotas frescas (I think it's spelt!) Spanish cologne

Described as

•	Lemon, Mandarin and Bergamot output
•	Heart of Lavender, Rosemary and Sage
•	Floral and velvet musk background
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/07/2021 21:34

SOTD Chanel 19.

Summer top five - not in order

Heeley Sel Marin - seaside bottled
MMM Untitled - ALL the green
4160 Tuesdays What I Did on My Holidays - the only fragrance from this house I like
TF Soleil Blanc - another beach scent, heavier on the coconut
Stella McCartney Stella - because sometimes you just need a straightforward rose, don’t you?

lots hope you are okay. I know more people who have/had it in the last few weeks than in the last 18 months.

NotMyCat · 19/07/2021 21:43

Summer top 5 (you'll notice a heavy citrus theme!)

Byredo gypsy water - I love the juniper and pine in it

monotheme book of citruses (limone is the name of the one I like I think!) it's pure citrus bliss

DKNY woman - this has always been "my" scent since I was at uni and I still love it. Very cold smelling and almost intimidating

Next summer sun (Bronze goddess dupe) beachy goodness

CK one summer - the classic! I have loved most of their summer editions

Fferny1 · 19/07/2021 22:09

@Notmycat that sounds like the very best sort of cologne that the Spanish do so well.

Sotd Is Goutal Eau d' Hadrien EDP.
This was my signature for years. The top notes are identical but the Cypress isn't, definitely a lot more synthetic than before. Plus it lasted about 1/2 an hour.

I'm happy today due to my seeds sprouting super quickly. I planted them Saturday morning and now have lots of mini Cosmos seedlings already. The heat is acting as a growth promoter 🌱🌼

FragrantlyScent · 19/07/2021 22:40

I have been optimistically lusting after a bottle of Annick Goutal Amber Fetiche, in the hope that my longing to bring out autumn/winter scents will usher in some cooler weather. Bit out of my price range for a blind buy. The notes look very tempting, though. Right up my street.

SOTD Rose Oud by Monotheme, which is surprisingly good quality and a very reasonable price in M&S. The rose is very apple-y, iyswim, like the skin of a dark red apple. The oud is quite polite and grounding. All in all this is an autumn scent, but it lasted well in this heat.

Have been covering myself liberally in lavender water to keep cool, very refreshing, and very cheap for a huge bottle in Boots. So much better quality than the dreadful confection Yardley's are calling lavender cologne.

FragrantlyScent · 19/07/2021 22:50

@1frenchfoodie D S and Durga look great, very quirky (which I like!) not heard of them before.

The Eau Sauvage is amazing, slightly sharp in the beginning, then very herbal, green and woody (like walking into a Neal's Yard shop!), with just a touch of spice from the carnation, and a hint of jasmine which sort of makes it more rounded.
