New thread. Let’s get the vanilla away, lockdown done, and the citrus and coconut out.

Hi all, long time no post. UK relocation has got stressful (tenant not paid rent for over 6 months and refusing to leave) and knocked me off my perfume game. MMM by the fireplace cheered me up this morning though.

Thought it was only me secretly pleased with the Moderna - Dolly link Judy , I was happy to get any vaccine I was offered but it was a nice extra boost.

Sorry to hear about the complicated family situations. I was NC with my dad for a decade before his unexpected death and on balance it brought more peace than the niggles I occasionally get about missed opportunities to reconcile.

Lotsofpots · 28/06/2021 22:15

I picked up some bits in the 4160 sale and have been alternating wearing Rome 63 and Kiss Me Quickly ever since. I cannot get enough of Kiss Me Quickly - it is exactly as described. Wasn't sure about Rome to start with (dare I say it smelled generic?) but as it settled I became more intoxicated with it. I pick up a similar note between the two once I've worn them for a few hours and can't work out what it is.

Also got Dirty Honey but have only worn once and don't think it's for me.

MissBattleaxe · 28/06/2021 22:49

@SummerWhy hello! Re: your question about the Perfume Society seasonal box. Yes they just Nd of keep it a secret until you get it and then they give you a link to an unboxing video and scent notes etc. Mine' s on the way! I really loved their Launches We Love box. There were 12 really good samples in it it

MissBattleaxe · 28/06/2021 22:51

SOTD Ormonde Jayne Evernia. Brand new oakmoss fragrance. I have an 8ml from their PR team to review.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/06/2021 23:00

Here you all are! SOTD YSL Libre - this is quite shrieky when it’s first on but dries down really nicely.

Just a head's up- Miller Harris has 50% off on their website.

Fferny1 · 29/06/2021 10:05

@MissBattleaxe that Evernia sounds fabulous. Is it Treemoss used or Oakmoss too? I think Evernia is the Latin name for Treemoss. I guess you can't tell us what it's like yet?🤐

I've been wearing Idle by Romilly Wilde for the last few days. On damp slightly sticky days it really seems to come into its own. The Oakmoss and the slightly sugary candyfloss note are simultaneously cooling and sweetly refreshing in humid weather. It's funny how your mood affects how you perceive perfume. I'm not into Cristalle at all this year whereas the previous two years this was my go to.

Glad to have you back @French. Sorry for the housing issues.
As a heads up Guerlain perfumes seem to be in offer on Notino at the moment. I've just ordered a bottle of Nahema that I've wanted for years, for a very good price. It seems to be freely available again, albeit in a different bottle having been o.o.s. forever.

MissBattleaxe · 29/06/2021 10:37

@Fferny1 Here's a very precise answer from the press release!

Evernia is Latin for oakmoss and grows on oak trees and conifers across the Northern Hemisphere. It is transported to Grasse, where it is cleaned and extracted into an absolute.

I'm writing up the review today. I'm a big oakmoss fan so this is right up my street.

It's nice to hear Romilly Wilde Idle mentioned. I love that. Marina Barcenilla made it for Romilly Wilde. It's really beautiful and reminds me of lazy hay meadows and bees.

riotlady · 30/06/2021 13:06

SOTD a sample of MFK Grand Soir… it’s so heavy! I like a strong scent and I only did two spritzes but I had to scrub some of it off as it was giving me a headache.

Mrs08 · 30/06/2021 15:56

Sotd my beloved pp mmm btf 💜

Virtual parents evening for ds2 tonight so that'll be interesting...hope the IT doesn't fail me!

Enjoying watching the 🎾 at Wimbledon

Still got a 15ml of 4160 black velvet cafe if anyone is interested?

Mrs08 · 30/06/2021 15:56

I've been wearing avon oud Grandeur for a few days and really like it...so does dh!

MrsRLynde · 01/07/2021 07:23

Good spot on the Guerlain Fferny1. Am looking for some Apres L'Ondee (can't work out what's happening with it - can't imagine it's been entirely discontinued).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/07/2021 10:57

SOTD 4160 WIDOMH - my last day of work until mid August!

Mrs08 · 01/07/2021 12:42

Nice judy! :)

Ds1 passed his driving theory test yesterday and ds2 had a great (virtual) parents evening.

Sotd pp mmm btf

Fferny1 · 01/07/2021 13:10

@MrsR the perfume you're looking for is on MyOrigines - a French online perfume company that's excellent. I've ordered from them lots of times as their prices are often good. They had Nahema in the new bottle earlier than the UK by several months as well. You only pay an extra charge if the order is over £135 and they always include samples.

Fferny1 · 02/07/2021 11:20

Nahema is my Sotd as my new bottle has arrived. Its somewhat neutered compared to earlier reformulations. Still smells the same but has far less power.
I have to say it's reminding me of E Coudray Jacinthe Rose crossed with Fuzzy Peach and a touch of passion Fruit. I'm a great fan of all of the above and think Passion Fruit in perfume is wonderful ( Calyx & Vero Profumo perfumes). I can now wear this in Summer whereas the earlier formulations would have been way too overpowering & dark in warmer temperatures.

Mrs08 · 02/07/2021 18:09

Sotd pp mmm btf again

Really shitty day so off to wallow in wine 🍷

wheresmymojo · 03/07/2021 00:15

Hi all,

Hope it's okay to join, I've lurked on the occasional previous thread which led me into discovering The Perfume Society and their discovery boxes.

So I've gone from hardly spending any money on perfume to...well a bit more and it's all your fault Grin

My favourite find so far has been Pirates Grand Reserve by Atkinsons which is now my absolute fave Autumn/Winter scent (never imagined I'd spend £100 on perfume before).

Anyway...having lurked on the thread a bit earlier today I've purchased 3 x Byredo samples and Baccarat Rouge sample.

wheresmymojo · 03/07/2021 00:28

Oh and SOTD is sample of Maison Francis Kurkdijan - Gentle Fluidity.

I like it - amber, wood, musk, nutmeg. Potential for it to be a FB purchase but given the cost I'll wait until I've tried the sample a few more times!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/07/2021 00:31

SOTD Diptyque Geranium Odorata.

Welcome, @wheresmymojo - pop your credit card in the freezer!

Hi @wheresmymojo welcome. The thread can be an expensive hangout though I justify it by claiming to myself that advice on dupes and cheaper buys (lots of Avon reviews) balance it out.

SOTD MMM promenade in the garden. Too sweet for me but I’m trying to use up samples before a move back to the UK later this month. For those that followed that fun saga (tenant owing over a year of rent and not communicating with us) the posession order hasnt been corrected 2 weeks after being issued in the wrong name. We’ll definately be sofa surfing with 5yo and dog on our return. I got legal advice on the original solicitor, ‘professionally negligent’ was the view but I’m so deep in admin in french and english systems I dont have the energy to fight for anything other than somebody to correct the order so we can book baliffs (4-6 week delay). But at least I sell nice doing all this. Hey ho.

Mrs08 · 04/07/2021 11:52

Welcome mojo

Sotd avon Oud Grandeur. I really do like this. It's perfect for all weather's I think. Exceptionally well blended.

Mrs08 · 04/07/2021 11:54

Sorry to hear of your woes french :(

My new bathroom was supposed to be being fitted tomorrow...booked 3.5 months ago.

Got a phone call on Friday afternoon to tell me that some parts aren't available and the fitters aren't available either.

So told them where to stuff it.

Except now I have a manky bathroom and have wasted 3.5 months.

I could weep.

wheresmymojo · 04/07/2021 14:10

Oh dear...sorry to hear about the bathroom and sofa-surfing Sad

Can you afford to rent an AirBnB place or some landlords will do short tenancies?

SOTD: Miller Harris Lost in the City...it's a sample from a discovery box.

Nice fresh rhurbarb smell with a hint of bergamot and a bit of amber/musk in the background.

Not working well on my skin though, I applied it 5 mins ago and I can only smell it with my wrist directly shoved under my nose!

Won't be purchasing...

wheresmymojo · 04/07/2021 14:14

I feel like Fragrantica could do with another category for perfumes you've tried and don't want/don't like so you can remember!
