So I'm 58, wearing quite well but only 5'2 and a full figured 14 so am a bit mumsy, my hair is fairly thick with a wave in it, I have a round face, think a cross between Dawn French/Kerry Catona/ Amanda Redman. I have had this image on my phone for ages, am I kidding myself and will I look ridiculous.

I don't think anyone here is gonna click a random link...

balzamico · 28/01/2021 20:12

I have a friend who is similar age, build to you and has this hair. It look fabulous, not as much height on the top but longer on one side. The only concern I would have is that it will need regular trims so may suffer in lockdown (though hopefully that won't continue to be an issue!!)

Cooltalkin · 28/01/2021 20:12

I think Kerry once had a very similar style , google it and see if you think it suited her

Imtoooldforallthis · 28/01/2021 20:16

Kerry Catona suits it, not sure I will being 20 years older.

I actually think this kind of style on an older lady looks pretty hard. The women I know who have similar don’t look younger, quite the opposite.

Laiste · 28/01/2021 21:04

In that photo, with that hair (the colour, full on styled) with that face, with that lighting - lovely.

On Janet Blogs with average hair on an average hair day - no.

(i include myself in the very average catagory btw)

QuentinWinters · 28/01/2021 21:07

I've seen lots of older women with that cut, on some it looks funky, on some it looks ageing.
Think it probably depends on how much time you spend styling it and your general clothes etc.
I like that style more with a bit of an undercut/shaved on the sides

Looks incredibly high maintenance.

I went from shoulder length to a cropped bob thinking it would be less maintenance. It wasn't. I had to wash it every day, blow dry into shape with a fuckton of product and it drove me mad. The hairdresser made it look effortless - to me, it was hard work.

MiddleClassMother · 28/01/2021 21:14

Isn't that a infamous "karen" cut? Personally I'd steer away from it as it looks v high maintenance.

CheddarGorgeous · 28/01/2021 21:33

No. It's not a good look. Sorry.

partyatthepalace · 28/01/2021 21:44

It looks high maintenance and a bit hard to me OP. I would have a good for faces similar to yours, come up with some options and talk to a good hairdresser

Imtoooldforallthis · 28/01/2021 21:46

Thanks everone, look like its long hair as usual then.

It's a bit Shirley from Eastenders .

FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 10:42

I've had similar. It is a short, asymmetric bob I think? I had it, REALLY short on one side. I loved it while I had it, but it is not lockdown friendly hair. It takes ages to grow out and doesn't look nice in the process. How about a blunt bob? Somewhere just above shoulder length? Still low maintenance and short (which I prefer dealing with), but less problematic when it grows.

Verite1 · 29/01/2021 10:42

I think it’s very dated to be honest. Maybe could still look cool in an “ironic” way on a young 20 year old. But that’s it I’m afraid.

Yup. Although I hate the term 'Karen' and all its associations, it's the original 'Can I speak to the manager' hairstyle. I had it about 10 years ago and it's not flattering either (unless you're an absolutely stunning model with a symmetrical face and defined jawbone) and an absolute bastard to grow out as well.
FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 11:05

I think 'the Karen' is not dissimilar, but it is more very short at the back, with long bits at the front, but could be wrong! But it isn't a hop, skip and a jump away, so if you are blonde, especially, you may wish to avoid.

It’s not a great Style. I read that asymmetric styles are back for 2021 but I still wouldn’t as think it will look severe and if your hair has a wave it won’t look like the picture unless you can be bothered to style it each day. I think there are a lot of options between this and long hair though. How long is it at the moment?

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 29/01/2021 11:36

I would go for a Sharon Stone messy pixie as the height on the crown will balance out the round face and work well with your texture. Otherwise a cheekbone length bob (no fringe) - which look great with curly/wavy hair

yellowcardi · 29/01/2021 12:02

It's awful.

Imtoooldforallthis · 29/01/2021 13:17

OK point taken, I can't have hair on my neck. So either long and tied up or short I struggle having anything in between. And although had a wave I always straighten it.

OP posts:
yellowcardi · 29/01/2021 14:16

I can't wear my hair down either. I always tie it up.

Don't let not wanting hair on your neck force you into a bad hairstyle choice.
