So I'm 58, wearing quite well but only 5'2 and a full figured 14 so am a bit mumsy, my hair is fairly thick with a wave in it, I have a round face, think a cross between Dawn French/Kerry Catona/ Amanda Redman. I have had this image on my phone for ages, am I kidding myself and will I look ridiculous.

I won't, had the same hairstyle for 30 years, would like a change. Certainly don't want a bob

How about another short style? Maybe a pixie with some height to it?

These are wavy / curly and stunning.

I was going to say about Shirley from Eastenders too! 🤣
It is indeed the original Karen ‘can I see the manager’ cut.
Neither of those statements would entice me towards booking in for this cut.

Imtoooldforallthis · 29/01/2021 15:17

When my hair is not curly, just has a wave, and certainly no curl when short. So dies anyone have any ideas fie short haircuts that do work?

And that curly pixie cut is definatly an old lady cut, that would look awful on me.

Hmmmm tricky then op!

How about changing the colour (if you colour it)? If you just want a change, but unsure about cut?

GwendolineWindowlene · 29/01/2021 15:32

What about this type of thing? Good for a round face, and less severe than the photo you posted.

Or these?

All those are very similar to the one I posted, just not got the height, but I would imagine the actual cut is not far off, just a bit shorter, and with not as much product in. When I say I've had the same cut I mean a variation on a theme. Have had it dark and blond, but now only highlights to blend in the grey.

FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 15:45

The difference between the one you posted and the others posted just now, is the variation in length between the two sides. The ones just posted are shorter all over, so more even in length, which looks quite soft, whereas yours would probably need to be cut short on one side and at the back, leaving a long sweep on one side. I've had a cut like that myself and it is the difference in length between the two sides which makes it an arse pain to grow out.

That said, if you have your heart set on it, go for it! If you don't like the asymmetric look, then get the long bit cut off later.

And anyway, isn't 'Karen' meant to be about racism? Can you tell someone is racist from their haircut? Seems unlikely!

Imtoooldforallthis · 29/01/2021 15:52

Not nesesserily got my heart set on it, just can't find anything I like, those shorter ones would look awful on me I would look like a pea head, when my hair is tied back it is similar to the one I like with a long side fringe. I think I'm just bored of long hair and see so many pictures of people rocking a cool hairstyle in there 60 or even 70, I would love to be like that.

It's a no from me. Would be massively high maintenance and unless you spent a lot of time on it each day, I think it could end up looking a bit shit.

Titsinknicks · 29/01/2021 15:58

Lovely photos but they're all of young gorgeous skinny women! I think short hair looks awful on most people.

FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 16:00

I wonder if you did cut it shorter, would it maybe go a bit curlier op? Mine does, as it doesn't have the weight pulling it down. So, you might find you could go for a cool, curly, slightly messy bob? Don't straighten it and embrace the curls maybe?

I get the pea head thing. I have a small face compared to my fat body. Also wee skinny legs, honestly, I'm a very strange shape altogether Grin. But that is probably irrelevant, sorry.

FatkinsDiet · 29/01/2021 16:03

This? Sorry, she is young and gorgeous again, but I think this could be more forgiving. And she has a more rounded face I think.

Northernsoullover · 29/01/2021 16:04

I'll probably get slated for saying this but I think that haircut on anyone past the first flush of youth looks a bit rough.

Imtoooldforallthis · 29/01/2021 16:06

That wavy Bob is lovely, but It would just look messy on me, if I leave my hair wavy it just looks untidy.

GwendolineWindowlene · 29/01/2021 16:15

Can you show us photos of people in their 60s with the hair you like?

That's what I was thinking tbh.

I'm not suggesting any of these would suit me, just that it's possible to have a stylish short haircut when your over 50.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 29/01/2021 16:28

Ooh no
I think you'd look like you'd been electrocuted.

PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit · 29/01/2021 16:29

If you want to minimise a round face then a really cropped or completely swept off the face fringe works best with a pixie. The pixie also needs texture and height at the crown. With a bit of a wave it will look really nice and stay looking texturised with a bit of matte clay putty.
