Anyone recommend a micro current device?

I’m in my mid 40s and definitely have jowls, wrinkles etc. I also have acne so not keen to try creams, serums etc.
I’ve been looking at the NUFACE micro current device and wondering whether it actually works?!!! Looking to tone up my skin. Would love to hear your thoughts Smile

Jade rollers? I know it's not what you asked for but they are great for circulation

alittlebitofbreadandnocheese · 01/02/2021 23:12

I had heard that these could be painful for those with large fillings. Is that true?

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 01/02/2021 23:58

NuFace did set my teeth on edge but I just turned it down a little.

The Bear has been fine for me.

HappyKatieA · 02/02/2021 06:17

@EleanorRigbyWasReal - the one I purchased was the fuschia pink, most sites sell for £279, but I managed to get one for £215! I'm hoping that's the one?

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 02/02/2021 10:54

Yes. That’s the one. Slightly larger and has 5 settings.

I don’t bother with the App (though you do have to register/sync it with the App before first use) 😊

So, two photos...

First one was Sept 2018. I had a bit more weight on my face and have done Couch25K for health reasons so unfortunately, it DOES show in the face after weight loss at my age. But... second photo is this morning on my way to work. The colour isn’t great (I’m tired/wearing my uniform grey top and though it’s by the window, the lighting isn’t great) but I think, my skins smoother than 2018. I’ve been using the device since the beginning of Dec last year (so around 8 weeks). My “11’s” aren’t as pronounced, my pores on cheeks are smoother and my chin/around mouth is better, I think. My family have wrinkly foreheads...get it from my mum’s side and IRL, I think they’re better than they were.

In both photos I’m wearing makeup. I don’t even go to work/Aldi without!

You have to remember, it’s all relative and I have committed to 6 mins EVERY day. I do it first thing, before my shower. Am planning a trip to the US next year for my 60th and I know I can’t turn back time but, I was getting tired of looking tired, all the time. I’m also taking meds which do nothing for me in the looks dept and can’t have fillers/botox so for me, this seems fairly non-invasive and I personally, like it.

We’ve all have a shite year. I’ve lost my mum, my dad (and almost, my sister). I don’t know if I’ve had Covid but I had something which floored me and needed inhalers/steroids and a raft of antibiotics and rest, to get rid of. I’m still not right. I don’t think £230 (think that’s what I paid for The Bear) is too much, considering.

Oh my goodness, you look amazing! You look great in the before photo too but I can definitely see the difference.

I’m sorry you’ve had such a tough year, hopefully 2021 is brighter for you.

Northernlass99 · 02/02/2021 15:54

Interesting. Can you use normal moisturiser or your regular serum with the Bear? I can't stand the slimy gel that you have to use with many of these things.

HappyKatieA · 02/02/2021 16:13

Wow @EleanorRigbyWasReal you are gorgeous - I can't believe you're going to be 60, surely a typo!?
I'm sorry about your year, I too lost my dad last year, you've had so much to deal with!
I can definitely see the difference, thank you, you've put my mind at rest! I'm really looking forward to getting it.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 02/02/2021 16:19

You’re welcome @HappyKatieA.

I remember my husband thinking I’d lost my marbles getting another device but when you add up all the money saved on holidays, meals out, trips here and there and meet ups... it was a bargain.

I’m sure much of it is psychological. I just like doing it ... it’s very relaxing if you do it before bed 😊

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 02/02/2021 16:22

You can use gel. I don’t like the thick sticky ones so buy one from Lookfantastic, which is cheaper, organic and comes off easily in the shower. I posted a screenshot of it, upthread.

I wouldn’t use anything oil based with it. The Bear needs gel. And no, you don’t use your moisturiser. Has to be gel.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 02/02/2021 16:25

A word of caution on losing weight too quickly! DON’T! My face has gone very long. I’d have killed for those cheekbones at 25 or even 45 😂 but now, I wish I could plump ‘em up a bit!

Thanks for the kind thoughts. Hoping it’ll be a better year for all of us, sooner rather than later.

westr · 02/02/2021 20:27

@HappyKatieA thanks for that Toby suggestion, I've just ordered one too!

Looking good @EleanorRigbyWasReal

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 02/02/2021 20:30

Oh blimey I've just ordered a Foreo bear too 🙈 i have to say for the price I'm expecting miracles 😁

HappyKatieA · 02/02/2021 21:44

It is a great price isn't it @westr ! I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

postcardfromme · 02/02/2021 23:39

Thank you for sharing pics @EleanorRigbyWasReal you are beautiful! I think I need to look into this bear thingy! X

Apileofballyhoo · 03/02/2021 11:38

There's been a bit of a discussion on the fantastic skincare thread about different gels to use with the Bear if anyone is interested.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 03/02/2021 12:38

Thanks @postcardfromme.

A friend and fellow mumsnetter commented to me that I look half asleep on my second photo and calm to the point of almost horizontal. She caused me to check my pulse and BP (started on new ❤️ Meds a week ago) and had a pulse of 46bpm. No wonder I look line free and chilled! Back to the Dr, methinks 😂 Am almost comatose.

Forgot to mention... I use a water spray to dampen the gel during the treatment. Just an empty spray bottle from something or other. That way, you don’t overdo it on the gel.

postcardfromme · 03/02/2021 13:40

Can anyone recommend a reputable website? I'm just concerned that if something goes wrong with it - I am able to get some help
Also @EleanorRigbyWasReal which one do you have as there are a few of them. Sorry if this has been asked before 😊

Apileofballyhoo · 03/02/2021 13:44

You are beautiful, Eleanor Rigby and there is a very noticeable difference in your skin definitely. I'm tempted now myself. I hope your meds/BP/heart get sorted.

EleanorRigbyWasReal · 03/02/2021 13:46

There’s only 2 Bears.

I have the fuscia one which has 5 settings. I think the other one is Bear Mini (fewer settings/a little less expensive).

I used Lookfantastic. Also, maybe, CultBeauty do them. They have a guarantee.

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 03/02/2021 13:56

Ised look fantastic. I got it for £218. I was going to use the Tobydeals website but I haven't heard of it before so I went with a company I've used before. Its just been delivered, very exciting!

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 03/02/2021 13:57

I used that should say Hmm

postcardfromme · 03/02/2021 13:58

Thank you both! Right I'm onto it!! X

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 03/02/2021 15:41

I would try it out but I can't get into the bloody thing Confused
