Does anyone on here only wear dresses?

I have recently bought 3 dresses (I don't own any apart from these 3). They are all maxi (long sleeves) or midi (long sleeves) dresses and they are so comfortable. I usually just wear jeans and a top but have never found jeans that fit and am finding that just putting a dress on each day is so easy (you don't have to worry about what matches with what, you just put one thing on and you're done). Are there any other dress converts out there and if so, what do you wear on your feet, what styles do you prefer and where do you get your favourite ones from?

@StarlightLady

The problem l find with jumpsuits is sitting on the loo, in the cold, half naked, when you go for a wee.
Totally agree! I had amazing dungarees when I was pregnant, but had winter babies and every time I had to use the loo in places like freezing cold church halls where we had toddler group etc, it was Baltic, even with a top underneath! Had to take off cardigan and jacket too. Brrrr

Do all you dress-wearers live in urban areas, or places where it doesn't really get all that cold even in winter?

I used to live in Switzerland where it could be -20 in the winter. I'd wear skiing thermals over the top of tights underneath, then just peel them off in the office. It was easier to than having to get completely redressed in the toilet cubicle if I'd been wearing trousers.

I go hiking in a skirt in the summer because it's cooler (and much easier to pee behind a tree!). In the winter, I wear trousers if it will be snowy or really rough, but skirt and leggings if its reasonable paths without brambles. I find the skirt is easier to lift out of the way when it's muddy or bushy and mud dries and brushes off faster on leggings than trousers. Even proper quick-dry walking trousers seem to soak up the damp from grass and mud, and they never dry in the winter so I end up colder and dirtier. Gaiters help, but they're not particularly comfortable.

Nope - I wear thermal leggings and a thick cardi plus long boots.
Or wellies when I'm dogwalking

Urban. I’d wear jeans and thermals if it got really cold.

Regarding dresses in winter:

I used to wear them and prefer them until I moved the south lakes in cumbria.

I tried everything to maintain it - buying thermal under layers, socks over tights, everything, but I feel as if I was forcibly dragged out of them.
I mean, once I stood for 20 mins at Kendal train station in January, a bit wet, windy, but terribly cold, and I was wearing a dress with two pairs of wool tights, a merino undervest, solid boots, two pairs of gloves, hat and scarf around my face, and I was FREEZING.

Very, very uncomfortable. My ankle length pure wool coat did nothing. It was soaked and heavy within 5 minutes and the damp/cold just seeped in through the wool. Even when it's not training here the wetness prevails.

I even purchased a huge wax raincoat and wore thermals underneath with skirts, wool tights, etc. Nope. Wind and rain and even mild drizzle get in through every slight gap.

After persisting with this for a while, I gave in and bought a pair of thermal leggings, and a zip up thermal jacket to put over my underlayer. More importantly I bought a Rab puffer coat. The cuffs and zipper and pockets are sealed.
The difference was immediate and mind-blowing. The climate barely affected me at all.

Wool really doesn't not cut it as an outer layer in such climates. Perhaps it depends upon how long you are outdoors per day and whether you use a car. I don't, and I walk a lot. It really was impossible, and I spent a fair amount of cash trying to make it work.

I wear very few layers now, but the right construction/material determines everything in that kind of environment.

I miss my dresses so sooooo much, but can NOT see me trudging through the lake district in a wool coat ever again.

And puffers tend not to go with dresses, nor most waterproof stuff. If anyone could suggest a solution then great, but I can't even remember the last time I saw someone in a dress here that wasn't a summer tourist or running to their office job.

I don't wear dresses I have very thin legs which I'm paranoid about.

whoamongstus · 19/01/2021 20:24

Pretty much always in a midi dress (and only a midi - I don't do short dresses, or maxis), unless I have my beloved dungarees on.

Chunky ankle boots and tights, or chunky trainers/Converse. Leather or denim jacket. Always with a bobble hat and massive scarf in winter cos I'm permanently cold!

ScepticalBandicoot · 19/01/2021 21:56

@Sallygoround631 what about a puffer coat that is longer length (below the knee) and has a shaped or belted waist? Appreciate it may be difficult to find a stylish one that is also properly waterproof, though! Or something like the Seasalt Janelle, which is waterproof and padded and quite long, although not a puffer? I think the main problem (style-wise) with waterproof coats is that they tend to be weirdly short and look odd with inches of skirt sticking out underneath (as well as not being very functional), but they can look OK if they're long enough to cover the skirt.

When I transitioned I expected a full and varied wardrobe but tbh I'm in skirts or dresses most of the time. Something about them with tights makes me feel smart even when casual

notacooldad · 20/01/2021 09:28

My sister wears this coat in winter with her dresses. She says its been the best for keeping away the cold.
I have a long North Face on. I wore it when I went to Siberia when it was cold and it did the trick!!! ( admittedly it was only -5° and I didn't wear a dress then!!!)

I actually love that I have found this thread!! I've been in such a dilemma with clothes recently. I'm short big bust and big calves, and just felt uncomfortable and scruffy all the time. But dresses and boots I feel ok. I'm going to embrace and make it my style! Thanks everyone for giving me a lil boost! 😊

I love dresses but I don't suit clumpy shoes with them, I need trousers for that. I wear with ballet flats in summer, adding tights for spring. For autumn and winter it's fleece lined leggings and knee high boots. I wear long sleeved, scoop neck or polo neck, fitted on top, knee length, with a bit more fabric at the bottom eg skater dresses or A-line. I love jersey fabrics and knits, not a fan of ironing. A jacket or chunky cardigan if it's cold, with an overcoat in the same style as the dresses for outside. I'm always warm enough. I wear dresses the most in summer, life feels cooler and easier without a waistband.
