Does anyone on here only wear dresses?

I have recently bought 3 dresses (I don't own any apart from these 3). They are all maxi (long sleeves) or midi (long sleeves) dresses and they are so comfortable. I usually just wear jeans and a top but have never found jeans that fit and am finding that just putting a dress on each day is so easy (you don't have to worry about what matches with what, you just put one thing on and you're done). Are there any other dress converts out there and if so, what do you wear on your feet, what styles do you prefer and where do you get your favourite ones from?

What’s the material like? Looks like Jersey?

bendmeoverbackwards · 18/01/2021 09:03

I love dresses. In the summer I either wear midi dresses with trainers and sometimes a denim jacket over it, or when it’s hotter a mini dress with sandals.

In the winter I love knitted dresses with tights and boots. Or a jersey dress and cardigan.

I’ve heard about Snag tights, any particular ones you would recommend?

keepmeawayfromthesherry · 18/01/2021 09:07

I really like the Popsy ones and have a few in my basket for when I get some money at the end of the month!

I wear dresses most of the time - the not having to match tops and bottoms, much more comfortable and always make you feel good

Summer - bare legs
Spring/Autumn - opaque tights
Winter - leggings

I still have some jeans and tops and don't wear dresses for walking - but I own no skirts!

Everything5pounds.com is my favourite. I have had some lovely dresses from there.

Tend to order 10 at a time, usually a couple are not quite right so I give away but always end up with liking most and it's a cheap way to try different styles as you can't try things on in stores now

Boogiewoody · 18/01/2021 12:02

Me. They're just a lot more comfortable and flattering.

RuthW · 18/01/2021 12:16

Not quite but probably 6 days out of 7.

I haven't owned any jeans/ trousers since I was 11 and I'm 53 now. I have never seen my mum in trousers.

The popsy ones use different types of materials
Some of them are prone to bobbling.
The waffle material ones are very good and I've never had a problem with bobbling on them. The scuba material is also good as well.
People seem to find a style with Popsy that suits then best.
I like the flat fronted ones.
The ones with gathered waistvlook blood awful on me but loads of people love them.
Some of the prints are fine if you work in a nursery or like looking like a children's tv presenter.
There are some really nice designs though.
Sometimes an old style Popsy dress comes up for sale and I think the vintage styles look great but they aren't doing them anymore.

Do all you dress-wearers live in urban areas, or places where it doesn't really get all that cold even in winter? I love my skirts and dresses and hate having to go into jeans and trousers during winter, but I'm in a pretty rural area where it reached minus 6 this week, and half the footpaths round here are covered in snow and ice. Even with all the boots and upper-body thermal layers in the world, I don't see how I could stop my legs freezing in just tights, even wool/thermal ones. If there are any really dedicated dress-wearers out there, I'd love to hear any tips!

I wear long skirts in colder weather, I'm planning on investing in some petticoats (the non-floofy kind) to add another later though. Apparently my dream look right now is kind of retro victorian Grin

If I'm wearing a knee length skirt in cold weather I will sometimes wear tights and leggings under it.

I also have a long woollen coat that comes down to my calves, so that helps.

Tbh, being short if I wear trousers then chances are they are too long and get in to puddles, soaking up water and not doing a great job at keeping me warm. So skirts are my preferred winter wear.

WhataCant · 18/01/2021 15:37

@ScepticalBandicoot I live in a rural area but down south so never really gets cold like it does in the north. If we do have frost I wear a knee length coat, extra socks and just brave it out for the bit between my knees and ankles Grin

StarlightLady · 18/01/2021 15:40

As a dedicated dress fan, l’d be first to admit the jeans come out when the weather dictates.

ScepticalBandicoot · 18/01/2021 15:43

Ah, loving these tips, thank you both! What do you wear on your feet when it's wet and cold? I have Chelsea ankle boots but they never look right with any of the skirts I own of any length, and my long boots look good with short skirts but not with the midi length ones, which defeats the point of wearing longer skirts for warmth!

Are the petticoats you're buying special wool or thermal ones @MedusasBadHairDay, or just any old ones for an extra layer?

ParisJeTAime · 18/01/2021 15:48

Not a dress wearer in winter as I feel the cold, but I have just bought a full length duvet coat. Highly recommend. I think I could wear it over a dress and tights and actually be fine.

stodgystollen · 18/01/2021 15:49

I have merino wool roll neck dresses from Uniqlo that are so much warmer than jeans (with tights obviously!) I live in dresses, mostly skater dresses or jumper dresses. I converted because I am generous of arse and thigh couldn't get jeans past my knee when skinny jeans were in fashion. I don't miss the trauma of jeans shopping! Jeans seem to be the one thing that doesn't have vanity sizing.

MedusasBadHairDay · 18/01/2021 15:50

sceptical I'm thinking any old tbh, that way I can use them in spring/autumn too

Itd bloody freezing today!!
I have thick opaque tights on. A dress ankle wedge boots, dress and a cardi on.
I have a thick swing coat for going between work buildings.

MedusasBadHairDay · 18/01/2021 15:52

I've got short fat calves, so I'm limited to ankle boots - currently got ones similar to docs. They look OK with longer skirts

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 18/01/2021 16:09

Me mostly! I avoid jeans because they make me feel so uncomfortable and I feel really big in them so I mainly stick to leggings and jumpers or tights and dresses. I find Tesco have lovely ones in, I've also got them from primark, Boohoo and Asda - cheap and cheerful 😀 I wear anything on my feet really, boots, Ugg's, dolly type shoes

Ikeameatballs · 18/01/2021 23:45

I love dresses but tend to wear them in winter with opaque tights. I feel the cold bitterly so struggle with dresses and no tights in the summer. Then I tend to wear cropped trousers.

Readingandrighting · 19/01/2021 02:07

I wear jeans more than anything. I don’t find dresses that easy to co-ordinate to be honest due to footwear mattering a lot more and legs needing to be smooth in summer and adequately covered in winter. I find jeans , runners/boots & jumpers endlessly easier.

trevorandsimon · 19/01/2021 02:35

@Looneytune253

I've always loved dresses but never felt comfortable in tights. Discovered snag tights and now I genuinely wear dresses every day. Discovered popsy dresses and now I have a few they're so comfy and flattering.
Are popsy dresses all the same style but just different prints?true to size also?
SpookieDookie · 19/01/2021 03:07

I wear wool tights, thermal long sleeved top and wool dress when it’s really cold, with a wool cardigan too. I like Biden for formal dresses and sainsburys weirdly for casual.
In summer I wear linen or cotton with saltwater or mostly sandals
Stick deodorant between the thighs stops chaffing

notacooldad · 19/01/2021 07:34

I wrote about Popsy dresses a few posts before yours.
There are different styles and different materials. Some better than others.

lindyloo57 · 19/01/2021 09:16

I have just got into jumpsuits, I do have to try lots on with being 5ft 2 tall, some are to long in the body,
I usely buy cropped as full length me, I had some luck with ebay, and a couple in the sale, they are mostly summer styles, but I can wear with polo top underneath.

StarlightLady · 19/01/2021 09:19

The problem l find with jumpsuits is sitting on the loo, in the cold, half naked, when you go for a wee.
