Does anyone on here only wear dresses?

I have recently bought 3 dresses (I don't own any apart from these 3). They are all maxi (long sleeves) or midi (long sleeves) dresses and they are so comfortable. I usually just wear jeans and a top but have never found jeans that fit and am finding that just putting a dress on each day is so easy (you don't have to worry about what matches with what, you just put one thing on and you're done). Are there any other dress converts out there and if so, what do you wear on your feet, what styles do you prefer and where do you get your favourite ones from?

Has anyone seen any longer jersey dresses? I have a couple from Jaeger which were just below knee level and had pockets to the front but they’re a bit tight now ( Covid weight gain). I’d like mid calf or longer to wear with flats - slim without being bodycon. ( most styles are long and floaty now)

lazylinguist · 12/01/2021 11:34

I'd like to wear more dresses and have just bought some white, fairly flat and minimalist trainers. What do you dress/trainer wearers wear on your legs with a midi dress and trainers? Tights? If so, what colour? Or do you only wear midis in the spring and summer with bare legs?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/01/2021 11:46

Normally at this time of year I wear a lot of midi dresses with 100 denier tights, and either DM monkey boots or trainers (black Veja or Stan Smith), also a lot of short a-line skirts with knitwear. It's just too cold working from home though!

In summer I love a good midi dress/bare legs/white trainers combo.

I too love dresses in the warmer months .Live on South Coast and even here last week temp in car 1c! Needed my thermals and trousers /socks coat and scarf gloves .If we lived in a warm climate would like to wear frocks most of the time! (Kirsty Allsopp looks great in hers!)

Wantubackforgood · 12/01/2021 12:03

Dresses from Sosandar and tights from Snag.Smile...am not slim and these are super comfy !
Wear flat leather over the knee boots or flat ankle boots in winter.Bare legs and trainers in summer .

Divebar · 12/01/2021 12:08

I wouldn’t go near tights and trainers but I’d wear leggings or footless tights.

Lovely vintage style

Spanielmadness · 12/01/2021 12:59

I love dresses but I find wearing tights all the time in the winter gives me thrush. I’ve managed to find some 80 denier hold ups on Amazon which I’m excited to try. The reviews were mainly from men who wear them under trousers, weirdly!

AdoptedBumpkin · 12/01/2021 13:03

@ServeTheServants I like the sound of your style SmileEnvy

Ninkanink · 12/01/2021 13:23

No not atm but it’s my aim for this year and going forwards. So easy quick and hassle free. Plus I love the way it looks.

Ninkanink · 12/01/2021 13:25

Oh and when I do wear dresses I wear ballet flats, loafers, chunky brogues, chelsea boots, trainers, heeled boots, ankle boots, all sorts really, sandals and suede booties in the summer.

Yes, I love collectif! Got a few items from them
limesoda · 12/01/2021 14:33

@LegoPirateMonkey loads of people love them but they just didn't work for me and they are too expensive to risk another pair 😂

SoupnSalads · 12/01/2021 15:03

I like a dress and going through my wardrobe I tend to have wraps, shirt dresses...I think its the V neck that suits me. I can do round neck but it has to be simple then flared, fit and flare style. Mostly mine are bold floral with not too many colours or stripe or simple repeated pattern. I find that the top and bottom half need some contrast or difference in structure as I look better in separates so this creates the illusion of separates. I really want a tencel dark denim shirt dress or utility shirt dress and a semi-sporty tunic dress I can wear over leggings.

Can I ask where your dungarees are from, I am 5ft 2 and find the ones I have tried are too long in the body.

MargosKaftan · 12/01/2021 18:39

I wear dresses more often then separates now. They work well for my smart casual work and having to be up and dressed before 7am means I have to make few decisions.

I tend to be lazy and buy ones that don't need ironing if hung up from wet - so Jersey mainly. (I spend a lot in Boden sales).

In winter, thick tights and either ankle or knee high boots, for spring /autumn its white trainers then sandals or ballet pumps/flats in the summer. Im not stylish though.

Also for the cold snaps - jumper dresses are fabulous.

Sainsburys a couple of years ago, though I think I've seen them in there again since
Waferbiscuit · 12/01/2021 21:00

I stopped wearing trousers in 2003 and only wear dresses. It's just more flattering for my body and more comfortable. I like the dresses I've found at: Hush, Saint & Sophia, some Zara (although quality is hit and miss), Baukjen (especially their heavy jersey dresses) and Me + Em in the sales. H&M also do a good plain thick jersey dress. Recently I've been wearing more maxis than mid-or knee-length dresses. I've invested in lots of good belts as well.

I pair them with Heist black or blue thick denier tights - their tights are the best - and wear with brogues or black ankle boots, depending on style.

It's just so easy to wear dresses as separates are an absolute faff and overall an outfit of separates is so much more expensive than a simple dress.

WhataCant · 12/01/2021 21:17

I love wearing dresses - they’re so much more comfortable than trousers. I wear them with 250 denier fur lined tights from M&S, and DMs. I get most of my dresses from M&S and Lands End

pinkprosseco · 12/01/2021 22:07

I love white stuff for dresses, easy to wear. Sea salt too. Don't need to worry about finding a top to match.

grapefruitish · 13/01/2021 00:36

I love dresses, so comfortable. My favourites are Miss June, I have five now and love them:

lindyloo57 · 13/01/2021 09:06

I now want to only wear dresses, but I am trying to not buy any new clothes for at least 6 months.

CarlottaValdez · 13/01/2021 09:11

Those miss june dresses are lovely but the one size thing puts me off.

Divebar · 13/01/2021 11:18

As a result of this thread I’ve ordered 2 dresses from John Lewis - one a knitted dress from Modern Rarity and a jersey dress from Kin. I actually found it difficult to find dresses I thought attractive, comfortable and practical . A lot of them are too formal for what I’m looking for. My normal preferences of Arket, Cos and Monki also not quite offering what I want. Marks & Spencer continue to disappoint with 2 designer collaborations ( Ghost upcoming) both offering ditsy prints and puff sleeves. Maybe it’s just me!

balzamico · 13/01/2021 14:49

You lot are inspiring me, every now and then I promise myself that I will go a week/ month without wearing jeans but I've never even tried. I wear them 6 days a week at least.
I am a sahm who walks the dog for an hour every day but I do have Dubarrys which look ok with a dress.
I often wear dresses in the summer -
Mostly white stuff but not so much in the winter.
Maybe next week is the week I rise to the no jeans challenge!.
