Hello all. I had Invisalign fitted today and would love some positive stories about how quickly I'm going to get used to them because at the moment I'm thinking this may have been a very expensive mistake!

Stick with it. The results are amazing. No regrets!

westr · 05/01/2021 21:13

Thanks! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Just hope my lisp goes soon

Yeah they’re really annoying especially at first.

They become less annoying after about a week or so, still annoying but low level rather than “I’ve made a big mistake”

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 05/01/2021 21:15

Oooh let me know how you get on, I want to get them as well.

FippertyGibbett · 05/01/2021 21:16

Did you have to have any teeth removed ?
I’d love mine straightened, but I’m too scared to have any removed.

KyraGoose · 05/01/2021 21:18

I didn't have any removed. They filed the sides down for some of my teeth to make space.

greenemerald · 05/01/2021 21:19

Fairly quickly you'll get used to them. At some point it was weirder for me to not have them in lol they'll always feel a bit sore every time you put a new one in but the results are worth it

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/01/2021 21:21

Yes they are annoying, and can be painful when you get a new set every two weeks. Totally worth it. You will not be disappointed so stick with it.

OnlyTeaForMe · 05/01/2021 21:22

Stick with it. The first 3-4 days are the worst.

I have a friend at the 18-week mark and the movement in her teeth has been amazing and she is SO happy.
I had it done about 5 years ago and convinced her to go for it and she was in tears thanking me for persuading her Smile

mooncats · 05/01/2021 21:22

Ooh us know how it goes , mine have arrived and going to have them in soon !

MoltonSilver · 05/01/2021 21:23

I felt exactly the same when I got mine first but I had one tooth removed, leaving a gap which meant that there was no going back. I'm so glad I did it. It was the best decision ever. Stick with it. You'll get used to them. It's quite exciting to see the progress as the trays progress.

ProperVexed · 05/01/2021 21:23

I did it about 15 years ago.....best thing I ever did!

pitterpatterrain · 05/01/2021 21:24

Yes let us know how it goes

I have just confirmed to go ahead - but worried about the lisp as I am on the phone all day for work

AddictedtoCrunchies · 05/01/2021 21:24

Painful for the first few days but I used Bonjela which helped a lot. My results were amazing. Went on in early June and pretty much done by September. Best thing I ever did. I spent my whole adult life with bad teeth and now my smile is ace. Three years on and I just wear retainers twice a week. Smile

littlekipling · 05/01/2021 21:24

I had mine in 2012 - the lisp settles and I actually missed the feeling of them on my teeth (even the pressure / slight pain of new aligner trays) when I was finished with my treatment. Make sure you wear your retainer religiously after treatment is complete. I went through a period of depression and self neglect after mine and they've moved back slightly ☹ Happy to have the treatment again but struggling to fund a second treatment now. It'll be best thing you ever did, trust me xx

InvincibleInvisibility · 05/01/2021 21:24

Mine hurt at the beginning of each new set but less and less and when it finshed it definitely felt so odd no longer wearing them!

Was great doing it during lockdown as it stopped me snacking ao I didnt put on weight.

No regrets at all.

InvincibleInvisibility · 05/01/2021 21:25

The lisp went fairly quickly

DariaMorgendorffer · 05/01/2021 21:25

I regretted mine soooo much the first couple of days, I was quite upset. But don't worry - that is normal. They feel so strange initially, but you will be shocked with how quickly you will adjust. So glad now that I did it. You won't regret it!

westr · 05/01/2021 21:27

Thank you all so much! I didn't have any extractions but the dentist filed down the sides of a couple along the bottom.

BigSkyLife · 05/01/2021 21:27

Still wear my retainers every night... I’m
So pleased with my results. Just persevere.

westr · 05/01/2021 21:28

He also said it was fine to drink white wine - I'd been a bit worried about that!

OP posts:
IdblowJonSnow · 05/01/2021 21:29

Agony at the start but you do get used to it. I didnt get teeth removed and they're slowly moving back. They filed mine down too, with a teeny tiny hacksaw, which was as unpleasant as it sounds!

Aftertheharvest · 05/01/2021 21:38

I'm waiting to get mine fitted, Dreading it (apart from hopeful weight loss side effect). Are you on all the pain relief OP?

Haggertyjane · 05/01/2021 21:40

Join one of the Facebook sites there are lots in the same boat and have tips on reducing the discomfort

westr · 05/01/2021 21:43

Not yet but will take some nurofen tonight I think. The main issue for me today is the lisp and my teeth are very very sensitive. I'll keep you posted on how I get on.
